There will be three Longhorns playing in tonight’s Super Bowl. I thought it would be interesting to recount how they arrived in Austin. Charles Omenihu, DL, Kansas City Chiefs - I first learned of Omenihu from my cousin, Doug Stephens. Stephens was the head football coach at Omenihu’s high school, Rowlett. My first memory of Omenihu’s name being brought up as a recruit came at the state coach’s convention, three years prior to him signing with Texas. My cousin and I were having lunch at Joe T Garcia’s in Fort Worth with members of his staff when I asked them if they had any young players in his program worthy of attention. Doug and his defensive coordinator ment…

  9. Started by Bobby Burton,

All things considered, yesterday was a pretty darn good day for Longhorn fans. Xavier Worthy scored the first two touchdowns ever by a Longhorn in a Super Bowl, while also leading all receivers in catches (8) and yardage (157). Granted, it was in a losing effort. But the performance cements Worthy as a fixture in KC's future. From game 10 on, Worthy became the Chief's go-to weapon on offense. Then there's the Longhorn women's basketball team. Led by sophomore Maddie Booker, the Longhorns defeated no. 2 ranked South Carolina 66-62. I watched the game in its entirety. The win was no fluke. The Horns routinely beat South Carolina inside, playing better interio…

  10. Hoops: Texas at Vanderbilt Game Thread The Texas Longhorns are back in must win mode, and they face the task of winning on the road at Vanderbilt today at noon central. Texas (15-8, 4-6) will take on an ascending Vanderbilt (16-6, 4-5) program without Tramon Mark, who is out of action Saturday. That leaves the Horns without two guard with Chendall Weaver still expected to be out one more week. The Commodores have already won seven more games this season than 2023-24, when they posted a 9-23 record and made a coaching change. First year coach Mark Byington is one of the rising coaches in the college ranks. Texas' NCAA NET ranking fell from No. 25 to …

Welcome back to the Friday Round Up, a wrap up of the week and a look ahead to the weekend with news on The 40 Acres and beyond. *** New Era of Leaders Winter conditioning is the first time you get a real look at who will be the vocal leaders for the next calendar year. Texas is losing a lot of veteran voices, many of which had established the culture that is so heavily praised today. But after checking in on the start of winter workouts, three names stood out. The first is a familiar one, DB Michael Taaffe. The 2nd team All-American has continued to be the standard for the Texas Football program. Taaffe was in the leadership committee and year a…

Yesterday was bittersweet for me. Blake Gideon is someone I consider a Lifetime Longhorn. From the very minute he stepped on campus 16 years ago as a freshman from nearby Leander, Gideon was determined to make a positive impact for the Longhorns. Despite other recruits being ranked higher and pundits like me not giving him much of a chance, Gideon was determined to succeed. And succeed he did. He simply would not be denied despite others possibly being more athletic, faster, etc. He started as a true freshman, and then all four years as a Longhorn, helping Texas become one of the best teams in all of college football. He even recorded an interception in the…

  19. The Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech has crashed into the Texas coaches office and taken off with associate head coach and safeties coach Blake Gideon. As first reported by Matt Zenitz, Georgia Tech will name Gideon their new defensive coordinator. Gideon was hired by Steve Sarkisian in 2021 from Ole Miss where he was the special teams coordinator. In the four years at Texas, he helped turn around a safeties room from a unit that allowed one of the highest bust percentage in the country to a back-to-back College Football Playoff Semifinal unit. Texas will look to make a new addition to the coaches staff, something Steve Sarkisian has done a tremendous job of …

He made a visit to Texas for the Florida game, and will be back for a junior day - whenever that is for Texas. Rhodes burst onto recruiting scene this season. 23. Texas baseball will see the first pitch of the season in just nine days from the time of this article. The Longhorns will head to Arlington for the season opening tournament where they will face Louisville on Friday, Ole Miss on Saturday and Oklahoma State to wrap the trip up on Sunday. Arlington has not been friendly to Texas Baseball in the last – well, name a time – but the new era of Jim Schlossnagle could indicate a change of fortune at the home of the Texas Rangers. We will see. But until first pitch is thrown, there are plenty of thoughts leading the way for me about this upcoming season. Let's get to it. *** 1st Inning: Sticks Will Be Hot …
