Texas took the day off yesterday. Well, not “off” entirely. They had team meetings, participated in a culture Wednesday activity, etc. But they were “off” the football field at least. ** Some folks have asked whether the so-called “Mini Moody” remains in the future plans of the athletic department. I’m told it most certainly does. It’ll be a new venue for the volleyball team and smaller concert events. There are also plans for an athletic village near the area for 500+ student athletes. Texas Hoops: Final Summer Workout Report The Texas Longhorns will wrap up summer workouts Friday. OTF continues to hear Sean Miller and staff are extremely pleased with the work this summer, and where this top 10 ranked Longhorns are at headed into September. The team will take next week off, before intense strength and conditioning in September (key month and a half for Marcus Spears Jr.) and skill work. Right now, it appears the Rutgers transfer is the top corner on the roster. – There are sky high expectations for Kade Phillips going into year two. Will he reach those expectations? NFL mock drafts 2027: Is Texas talent overrated or underrated? One of the main things said and written leading up to the 2026 season is Texas is the "most talented roster" in college football this season. Another is Texas is a National Champion favorite in big part because of the talent level in the program, even though the most NFL talented team didn't win the National Championship last year. Based on what I've been told, those two are making the most disruptive plays so far on defense. What do they have in common? Elite quickness and speed for the position they play. But they also give up a little size for their positions. As the pads come on this week, let's see if the disruption trend carries on. While I tend to think it will, sometimes when OLs are able to start leaning a little more on DLs and LBs, it can negate their level of disruptiveness, especially later in practices and over the course of training camp. I spoke with someone who attended Saturday’s practice for a little bit and got to pick their brain on numerous things. Apparently, this practice also served as a viewing window for many donors, and the first half of the practice going against air and/or was mainly 1 on 1 work.
