Earlier this morning, I posted that at least one starter is likely headed to the transfer portal. As of this hour, that remains the same. However, I can add that one of the starters who was also thinking about entering the portal has decided to remain at Texas. I didn’t name names this morning for this very reason. The 2024 season has concluded, which means the countdown for August begins now. Of course, the first day of classes for the spring semester began on Monday and the winter conditioning aspect will start up here in the next week. At some point the current teams needs a day off, right? Also, the 25 newcomers are all getting acclimated to their new campus, or for the freshmen, their first week of college classes. We're hearing USC transfer offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon could announce his decision as soon as today. Pregnon, who is 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, has started for two years for the Trojans and was named second team All-Big 10 this past season. Pregnon visited Texas over the weekend. As we await a number of NFL and transfer decisions, one Longhorn is closing in on making that decision. I am told that defensive end Trey Moore is leaning to return to the Horns. Moore has been consulting with his family and others on the decision. He has gone so far as to figure out his pre-draft plans of working out in Dallas if it comes to the other side of the equation. After watching Notre Dame and Penn State last night, all I can say is the Longhorns would match up exceedingly well with either of those teams. Both teams played solid, physical defense, relied heavily on the run game and the pass just enough. But Texas has a little something extra to them compared to the Irish and Nittany Lions. Texas coaches are actually on the road in the Metroplex today visiting high schools. However, it’s not the coaches you would typically think. Gerry Hamilton ran into player personnel director John Michael Jones and director of high school relations Jamal Fenner at North Crowley right as Gerry was leaving earlier today. This week it’s been back and forth some with Bert Auburn and Will Stone. The two kickers have been vying for the starting spot against Ohio State. Auburn, yesterday, seemed to get the upper hand. He made all the kicks with the 1s and 2s. We expect him to be the starter over Stone in the Cotton Bowl. Auburn beat out Stone twice before for the job.
