Purdue tight end Max Klare, a third-team All Big 10 selection by conference coaches, is expected to visit Texas today, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Klare caught 51 passes for 685 yards and four TDs last season. He’s 6-foot-4, 240 pounds.

2020 Class Rewind: 14 signees in CFP; and two award winners The Texas Longhorns signed the No. 9 ranked class in 2020 with Tom Herman at the helm. Herman was fired January 2, 2021 and Steve Sarkisian was hired the same day. Upon taking the job, Sarkisian and staff had the task of building a genuine winning culture in Austin. What Sarkisian inherited was a program with some talented players, not nearly enough, but in need of an overhaul. Former Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester tells OTF that he is in Austin today to visit the Longhorns. Bouwmeester averaged 44.9 yards per punt and had 17 of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line this year, including five in a single game against BYU. He was a 2nd team All-Big 12 selection this year after being named a 1st team All-PAC 12 selection a year ago. Bouwmeester will have one year of eligibility remaining. View full news story

Last night, Kelvin Banks was awarded the Lombardi Trophy. Banks is the fourth Texas player to win the award, and the first since Brian Orakpo. Banks is up for the Outland Award, which is presented to the nation’s best tackle or guard regardless of whether he plays on offense or defense. The winner will be announced later tonight. We should learn a little more today on Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester. An Australian native, Bouwmeester averaged 44.4 yards per punt this year with 23 of his 60 boots being downed inside the 20. By comparison, Texas special teams averaged 39 yards per punt this season. Bouwmeester says he should have "more of an update" today. Note: while Texas is expected to look for a punter in the portal, we're unsure if Bouwmeester is the one the Horns are necessarily after.

I listened to Steve Sarkisian’s press conference on Sunday afternoon. You could hear the disappointment of the loss in his voice. But, per usual, Sark was fairly even-keeled overall. Not too high, not too low. So here’s Sark’s plan over the next few days: He said he’s going to give the players a quick mental and physical rest. I’ve watched the game twice now. Texas got beat up front. Brutally bad. The offensive line The interior DL of Georgia routinely defeated the Texas offensive guards. That’s just a hard fact. The Texas guards could not move any of them, not even on combo blocks with Jake Majors. Kyle Flood even inserted Cole Hutson into the game to try to shake things up. Hutson played well. But the Georgia interior was just having none of it. And the Georgia defensive ends were at best stalemated. I could only find two instances where the Texas tackles caved in the Georgia DEs.
