Whew. In a win-or-go-home game, the Longhorns ran off to a big lead early then held on late. No heroics from Cade Klubnik could save the Tigers. And no amount of injuries were enough to derail the Texas offense. Texas was simply too good for Clemson. The Horns flexed their depth to prove just that. Texas leaned on often unheralded players, from Jaydon Blue’s 77-yard run to Hayden Conner moving over to center while Cole Hutson was pushed into full-time service at left guard (not right, which is his usual position) and Trevor Goosby switched from left to right tackle in a pinch. I was perhaps skeptical of the turnout for this game with the holiday and the students on break, plus Westlake and Vandegrift in the Texas HS State Championship in Dallas. Texas Hoops Update: Latest on injuries The Texas Longhorns (9-2) will be back on the court Thursday facing a New Orleans (2-7) team that won't provide a test. Texas is once again expected to play without star freshman shooting guard Tre Johnson (21.1 ppg), who has a minor hip injury. Johnson is expected back on the court after the Christmas break. The NCAA Transfer Portal has been open for a week now. Feels odd to say with how much movement we have seen from not just Texas, or around the SEC, but the entire country. But yes, only one week. Texas is back on the board with a portal commitment! Former Arkansas LB Brad Spence has committed to Texas, first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Spence was on campus in Austin this weekend and it didn't take long for the job to get done. Spence had 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Razorbacks this past season, including seven tackles and a sack against Texas. The portal flood gates are open and the Longhorns are benefitting already. Texas is expected to land former Purdue DL Cole Brevard out of the portal after a trip to campus this week. Brevard is a 330-pound defensive lineman who started for Purdue for the past two seasons. The first portal addition of the winter is former Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester, a two-time all-conference selection, who has averaged more than 44 yards per punt each of the last two years and who has two years of eligibility remaining.
