Can we just take Notre Dame's redzone offense? Seems to work for them... 😅

  3. If you would’ve told me ahead of Saturday’s game that Texas would win the rushing yardage battle over Ohio State by 89 yards (166-77), limit the Buckeyes to a 4-for-14 effort on money downs (3-for-12 on third down and 1-for-2 on fourth down), hold the Ohio State offense to 3.8 yards per play and dominate field position (the averaging starting field position for the Longhorns was their own 32-yard line, while the Buckeyes’ averaging starting field position was their own 20), I would’ve expected the outcome to be Steve Sarkisian’s team winning the game in relatively comfortable fashion. Instead, the Longhorns suffered a 14-7 loss because some of the same critical issue…

I’ve been watching sports for over 50 years, long enough to see hype cycles come and go, dynasties rise and fall, and coaching reputations built on everything from rings to press conferences. So I’ve formulated my own coaching tier system. Not based on media narratives, fan loyalty, or sideline swagger — just on what these coaches actually do with the teams they’re handed. Some build greatness no matter the circumstance. Some need a roster full of Ferraris to get out of the garage. And some are masters of the rebuild — turning misfits into contenders, but never quite crossing the finish line. Here’s how I break it down. Feel free to argue, add names, or call me …

I know this is Sark’s offense and he’s the QB whisperer, but Milwee is still the QB coach. At what point does he get put on the hot seat? Quinn’s footwork seemed to regress over the years, and coming into this game I actually said I loved Arch’s feet. But his mechanics were rough, and the footwork was the most alarming part. The sidearm stuff doesn’t bother me — plenty of great QBs throw like that — but the rushed mechanics did. Maybe it was just the speed of the game and he’ll settle in, but to me this is the key to the season. Arch has to slow down, clean up the footwork, and hit the easy throws.

I’m still baffled by Arch’s inaccuracy on easy throws yesterday. Would be shocking for any 3rd year 5 star but even moreso one with his last name. Question is this were there any signs of this in his starts last year? I don’t remember noticing errant throws like that, but I haven’t gone back and looked. Maybe one of you could do a breakdown this week? Would love to know if this is an ongoing issue or first road start jitters or something. Thanks for considering!

From what I heard all off-season, it sounded like Hero Kanu was playing more with the 2nd and 3rd string. However, it looked like he was on the field a lot. Was that more because he's better or Sark wanted more experience against the Buckeyes? Does anyone have the snap count for each player?

  10. Wanted to get some opinions. I thought we were pretty vanilla with the pass rush. Yes we got pressure with the NASCAR package but you don’t get a whole lot of 3rd and longs against a team like Ohio State. Simmons didn’t seem like he was a factor as a 3 down edge. Maybe the osu OL is a lot better than we thought but just shocked how few one on one edge wins there were. Didn’t even notice Spence in the game. 1 tackle? the question is how much of that is scheme? I felt that ultimately that was the plan from PK not to get gouged by the run game and keep everyone back after bracketing Smith. You can only do so much when you have to account for 1 guy. How many times wi…

  13. I believe at this point I’m more shocked than disappointed. Never would I have thought Arch have struggled on the simple throws as he did but life and football go on. Texas beat Texas yesterday not Ohio State IMO, though we don’t know what Ohio State would have looked like with their backs against the wall. Texas lead almost every statistic besides some of the most important. Red zone scoring, time of possession, turnovers, penalties, yards per attempt in passing and 4th down conversions. Sark is not going to give up play calling nor should he pretty plain and simple. I wasn’t a huge fan of the the game plan but he had to have his reason behind it. @Gerry H…

  14. Some of Arch’s throwing motions looked way off yesterday. Do you guys think he is trying to “find” that same side arm motion in the short game that Quinn had? I don’t remember Arch ever ripping his arm across his body like he did a few times yesterday. I’m not here to nitpick or bag on anything that happened yesterday. I watched a couple highlights/lowlights this morning and some of his throwing motions have me all sorts of confused.

  15. The View from the Cheap Seats-tOSU The Stage was Too Big Same story, different season for Sark and the Horns. When matched against similar talent and coaching staffs, Sark reverted to form and turtled up. The hype and the pressure was clearly too much for Sark, Arch, and the offense. The same things we saw against Georgia twice last year and Ohio State in the playoffs: dumb penalties, turnovers (well, just 1), the same abandoning of creative play calling. On the positive side of the ledger, the D came to play. This team will go as far as the D carries us in 2025, which isn’t a bad thing. Now in his 5th season at TEXAS, Sark has one win over an…

  16. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is on the podium fielding questions following the Longhorns’ 14–7 loss to Ohio State in Columbus. Plenty to discuss, especially following this offensive performance.

  17. Just like you, I too am scarred by Tom Herman telling me every Wednesday or Thursday that the week of practice leading up to a big game has been amongst the best the Longhorns have ever had. So if you want to tap out now, feel free, I won't blame you. However, I will tell you that the quarterback at The University of Texas has received extensive praise from the Texas coaching staff during the Longhorns' preparation for the defending National Champions. Even with shuffling on the offensive line, the Texas quarterback has had command of practice and looked incredibly sharp in practice this week. Again, I understand this is often said in lead-ups to big games…

  18. Well the fairy tale start for Arch’s career didn’t happen, and rightfully so. I don’t think there’s a quarterback in the country who has this amount of pressure on them like Arch does and go into the Shoe and beat Ohio State. Ohio State still has an amazing defense, but our offense didn’t do much to make that seem otherwise besides that last couple minutes of the game and on the ground which was a pleasant surprise. It always stinks playing such a huge game to start off the season and lose because people tend to give up on you so early, but this Texas team is gonna to be just fine. They’re a great football team that just needs to workout their kinks. These next four weeks…

  19. Tough lost and Texas beat themselves today. There are some real positives from today! With that being said, Arch, Sark, and the wr core need to go back work and fix their issues. Arch missed balls all day, Sark’s play calling left alot to desire, and the wr core was a no show mostly. Defense is STRAIGHT ELITE despite the penalties and broken coverage. Texas is still playoff caliber.

  20. I’m antsy. Can’t sleep. This is season #37 for me. Five decades. My dad who didn’t go to college was a huge Texas fan. Took me to the 1989 Texas Penn State game in Austin. I was hooked. Love this place. I’m a recruiting nut and love Gerry’s work. Everyone here. Let’s go win a natty ladies and gentlemen
