Steve Sarkisian’s truest words between last Saturday’s 14-7 road loss to Ohio State and the 2025 home opener against San Jose State on Saturday (11 a.m., ABC) came during his weekly press conference on Monday. Sarkisian was addressing the Spartans, specifically his respect for Ken Niumatalolo as a coach. Aside from the kind words, Sarkisian wrapped up his opening statement by pointing out where the Longhorns' attention should be while building toward the SEC opener, on the road against No. 13 Florida on Oct. 4. “Good challenge, good opportunity for us, but this week is really about us and what we do, and everybody in the organization being coachable and striving…

I have heard you guys mention time and time again how devastating CJ Baxter's knee injury was. For context, on a scale of Jonathan Brooks' acl tear to Marcus Lattimore's complete destruction of the knee, how bad was Baxter's injury??

The word “domination” has been heavily abused these days. Most recent instance: LSU vs Clemson. People (including Gerry and Bobby) claimed LSU “dominated” Clemson in the second half. LSU outgained Clemson by 50 yards and outscored them by 14 points (Clemson outscored them by 7 in the first half). Clemson was 15 yards away from tying the game with a minute left. That is NOT domination! LSU just won a hard fought game. Why can’t we just leave it at that? Swinney’s comments about 63 for LSU and 58 for Clemson was accurate. Both of them played Sloppy games and LSU came out a little ahead. Boasting about dominating a team when you won like that is just bad sportsmanship a…

What @Gerry Hamilton said this morning on rapid reactions is true. The next 3 weeks will mean nothing. Texas is gonna look like the best team in the country when they beat 3 scrubs by 30 and arch looks like the second coming, they’ll probably even score every red zone possession they get over the next 3 games. But none of it means anything. October 4 is the most important game on the calendar right now. If Texas can go to the swamp in what will almost certainly be a night game and execute offensively at a higher level than what they did in Columbus, the ship can be righted and perception can change. But if a visit to the swamp is similar to the visit in Ohio, everything a…

Texas vs San Jose State Game Week Thread The Longhorns play host to San Jose State September 6 in the 2025 home-opener. TV: ABC 11 a.m. central San Jose State SJSU lost their season opener 16-14 to Central Michigan at home. CMU rushed for 247 yards at 4.9 per attempt. The CMU top two RB’s put up 201 yards of the 247 on 31 attempts. CMU totaled 362 yards on 63 plays. QB Walker Eget attempted 43 passes in the loss, and had two rough interceptions in the opener. Both were ill-advised throws. If he repeats decisions close to that September 6, Texas will likely get a pick six opportunity. Eget also had a lost fumble in the game. SJSU posted 3…

I started doing this last season and people enjoyed it, so I’m bringing it back. Each week I post a list of random college football facts that pertain to the current state of events in CFB. Here is this week’s: - Alabama is 4-5 against their last nine FBS opponents. - Kalen DeBoer has four losses at Alabama as a 14+ point favorite, in 14 games as the coach. Nick Saban lost three of those in 139 games. - 2024 Florida State’s 2-10 season is the second-worst record an FBS team has experienced before beating a Top 10 opponent in their season opener. - TCU scoring 48 points is the most Bill Belichick has ever allowed in a football game as a head coac…

I’m sure a lot of keyboard warriors will be pissy for this thread. but out of curiosity i looked up Zachariah Branch stats with his UGA debut & couldn’t help to see Zion Branch lead the team in Tackles…. i was prettty stunned. i didn’t think he could play at the level of a someone i thought to be getting real minutes on a UGA defense… anyone else notice that? or watch the game?

Just an FYI for those so inclined. We've got a big weekend planned in Austin. * Gerry and I will be broadcasting Coffee & Football tomorrow morning (Friday) live from Hays City Store. Afterwards, I'm going to stick around for an early lunch if you want to join. I figure this might be a good Longhorn getaway for folks who want to take an early Friday break and just talk Longhorn football with us. * On Friday afternoon, we'll be at the Co-Op courtesy of 40 Acres Collection from 3-4. Stop by, say hello, and get geared up for the first home game of the season. * On Saturday, we will be at our tailgate. Adult beverages will be provided by Garage Beer an…

From an ESPN article - https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/46154733/more-8300-nil-deals-worth-80m-approved-new-commission For me the key takeaway is that > 8,300 deals, worth $80 million, have been approved. None have been rejected totally - "332 deals had not been cleared to date and 75 had been resubmitted, while none had entered arbitration, which is available for parties who feel their deals have been wrongly rejected." This is good news for the student athletes, great news for the rich schools (like Texas) equipped to play the new NIL game, bad news for the bagmen of old. Quotes, in case you have problems accessing the link "The new…
