On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Dear Lord I thought when it was announced that NIL was going to be a thing I thought it was going to be awesome for Texas ya know, cause it’s a big brand, has a lot of alumni, which means a lot of money. However I am beginning to hate NIL it’s freaking insane how Texas is losing recruits to other colleges after they have an 11-1 season the first year in the SEC and they are going to the SEC championship there first year in the conference and going to the playoffs the second year in a row. Normally if NIL wasn’t around I would believe kids would be begging to go to Texas. Here’s the worst of it we’re losing recruits to programs that are 6-6 or worse. That’s crazy!!!!! Only…

Liked a lot of Joel Klatt’s take in support of 24 Team format. Gaining support from college commissioners (starting with Big 10). It would make December even better than it already is for CFP imo. A quick summary of points (my twists on top of Klatt’s overall framework). https://youtu.be/FcIHsfqD4YI 1. Eliminate conf championship games. Use regular season conf records (and tie breakers) to name conf champs. 2. Each of Big 4 conferences get 4 AQ based on conference rules (conf record, head to head, common opponents, etc) 3. ND automatic if Top 20 plus 5th Conf Champ. 4. With 18 Teams locked (17 if ND outside Top 20), the remaining 6 spots…

  4. Texas secured Saturday’s 52-37 win over Arkansas thanks to four outstanding individual plays in the third quarter. On second-and-2 from the Razorbacks’ 44-yard line, Maraad Watson forced Mike Washington Jr. to bounce a run outside, where Colin Simmons and Malik Muhammad finished him off for a 1-yard loss. One play later, Jelani McDonald was in the right place at the right time, intercepting Taylen Green’s inexplicable decision to push the ball off his chest and into open space as the walls were closing in on him on third-and-3. On the Longhorns' ensuing possession, Quintrevion Wisner got away from a defender near the line of scrimmage and weaved his way to a 4-y…

  5. ....they are loaded at the receiver position. Stafford is having an incredible year. Plus Poona Ford and J-Whitt are usually starting. J-Whitt does a lot of the dirty work. Plus Sofi is a badass stadium. I think if they get home field advantage throughout the playoffs, they will be hard to beat.

Fair to say we aren’t looking at Jammer’s son? Seems very good per clips and stats at least. Q Jammer is lobbying hard for him to get a look.

  7. View from the Cheap Seats-Arkansas Arch Roasts Pig for Thanksgiving “How does TEXAS bounce back?”, the announcers quote as the opening kickoff was struck. We’d say pretty damn well. The story of the night was Arch had his breakout performance vs old Southwest (SWC) Conference rival Arkansas. Coming off an ugly loss in Athens, the Horns return to a raucous crowd at DKR to enjoy their biggest win of the season. This was very much the performance the pre-season hype anticipated and a great look at the future of the Horns. Arkansas gave notice early why they had played every other SEC opponent close, they took the opening drive down and kicked a field …

What place do we think we need to be in the Tuesday release to show that the committee is positioning to put Texas in at 9-3 with a win over #3 and a couple upsets? #13-14?

  9. OU vs. Nebraska For diehards, here's a nice article that tells the story of OU and Nebraska. As a kid, this was the one I always wanted to watch that didn't involve Texas. College football was better when these two played. There's also an excellent youtube video (that I can't link) by Hardcore College Football History. Enjoy. https://mikefarrellsports.com/college/nebraska-vs-oklahoma-a-classic-rivalry/

  10. Credit where it is due! Defensive adjustments at halftime held Arkansas to 3 points in the 3rd period. At the 11 minute mark of the 4th Texas led 52-23. Game over, substitutes hit the field. Two meaningless scores inside 8 minutes . One with 7 plus and one at :16 seconds. Reason for mentioning it is the piling on about giving up 37 points as if the first unit didn't stop the pigs. Let's be accurate. Texas buried Arkansas in the second half and played most of the 4th with a litany of substitutes. Nice adjustment after the half.

  11. Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. has been ruled out for Saturday’s home game against Arkansas (2:30 p.m., ABC). Friday’s SEC student-athlete availability report downgraded Hill from questionable to doubtful for the game. Issued 90 minutes before kickoff, the pregame availability report confirmed that the Longhorns will have to take on the Razorbacks without Hill, who suffered a hand injury in last Saturday’s 35-10 road loss to Georgia. Hill is the leading tackler (69 total tackles) for Texas (7-3, 4-2 SEC). He has recorded seven tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions as a junior. Hill’s absence adds a degree of difficulty to the Longhorns’ chal…

  12. Hopefully Missou can beat the Sooners! What else? Thanks.

  13. Losing Hutson and Campbell I say we need at least (2) IOL’s. I just don’t see 6’8” Stroh and Brooks as OG’s, too high of centers of gravity. We need a couple of 6-3, or 6-4 330# road graders.

A close friend of mine — whose parents are significant donors and who’s usually well-informed about LSU’s behind-the-scenes matters — told me that LSU is hiring Lane Kiffin.

  15. Before he addressed his football team’s upcoming home game against Arkansas, Steve Sarkisian addressed his coaching future at the University of Texas. Less than a month after Diana Russini of "The Athletic" reported that Sarkisian’s camp had expressed interest on his behalf in potential NFL head coaching openings, ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard said in a video posted on social media that Sarkisian and the Longhorns could be headed toward a mutual parting of ways. The following is Sarkisian’s statement on the rumors surrounding his job, in its entirety: “I’d like to comment on something before I get into our team, something that has been bother…

  17. It’s been a tough second half of the season for the Texas secondary. What has perhaps been most disappointing regarding Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense on the back end is the number of explosive plays the Longhorns have allowed through the air over their last three games. In wins over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, along with last Saturday’s loss to Georgia, No. 17 Texas (7-3, 4-2 SEC) has surrendered 28 completions of 15 or more yards, five of which have gone for more than 30 yards. The Longhorns only allowed 27 explosive pass completions through the first six games of the season, with the number of 30-plus-yard pass plays by their last three opponents matching the ou…

  18. Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. was downgraded to doubtful for Saturday’s home game against Arkansas (2:30 p.m., ABC) on Friday’s SEC student-athlete availability report. The good news for the Longhorns is that wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who has been dealing with a thumb injury he sustained in the team’s 34-31 win over Vanderbilt on Nov. 1, was off the report. He was listed as probable on Wednesday and Thursday. The bad news, however, is that Texas (7-3, 4-2 SEC) could have to face an explosive Razorback offense without one of the top defensive players in the country if Hill can’t go. Steve Sarkisian said on Thursday that Hill had been limited in practice after…

To the board and mods for some of the comments I’ve made on here. Feel like I’ve been one of the better members of the community until the last few days . I even took a whole day off from the board to avoid becoming another #Hashtag🙃. Just an overall frustrating week since the end of the game Saturday night but I’ll be better 🤘🏼

  20. With three weeks remaining, including the conference championship games, this is my initial Field Prediction for the College Football Playoff. There is a ton of football left to be played. Oregon 6. Texas A&M 7. Notre Dame 8. Oklahoma 9. Alabama (SEC Runner-up) 10. BYU (Big 12 Runner-up) 11. Georgia Tech (ACC Champ) 12. North Texas (American Champ)

  21. Congratulations I guess?

  22. QB - Arch RB - Portal or Wisner/ Simon / Cooper (Baxter is pushed out and Wisner is tbd on NFL) WR - Portal (Texas has to get a legit WR1 or maybe even 2 if they want to maximize Arch) WR - Mosley (Moore goes to the portal) WR - Wingo (he’s a JAG but when he is on he is awesome- needs to work on his hands and route running) TE - Endries / Townsend (Washington portals) LT - Goosby LG - Portal C - Robertson RG - Portal RT - Baker Edge - Simmons SAM - Spence DT - Kanu / Terry DT - January / Watson Jack - Jackson / Zina LB - Lefau / Portal LB - Smith or Spence / Atkinson CB …
