Latest on Michael Fasusi Lewisville (Texas) High 5-star OT and Oklahoma verbal Michael Fasusi made a visit to Texas yesterday with his father and sister. OnTexasFootball spoke with two sources close to the recruitment to get the behind the scene returns. The visit went very well from both reports. One source said, "Much better than the June official visit". The conversations were all viewed as very positive - from football, to Kyle Flood's development, S&C being able to maximize the DFW star, etc... A second source feels "really optimistic" about the Longhorns chances. Both sources believe Texas has a legit shot in the recruitment. This was not a …

We had Billy Liucci of TexAgs on the Livestream last night. I thought it was a good interview and good content overall. Luucci said one thing that really struck me and I hadn’t thought about much. In its first year returning, the Texas-A&M rivalry is THE rivalry game of the weekend, the only one with major stakes on the line. After all, Alabama-Auburn has no major impact on CFP or conference championship rankings. Not much is expected of Ohio State-Michigan either. So in year one back on the schedule, Texas-Texas A&M is THE game of the weekend. ** Kelvin Banks and Jahdae Barron are both up for national awards, the Outland an…

We all know that Texas and the rest of the college football world is just eight days away from National Signing Day, Dec. 4. But not as many realize just how quickly thereafter that the transfer portal opens. For this school year, the portal windows are Dec. 9-28 and Apr. 16-25. Those dates are only when a player must enter the portal by, not when they must decide which school to attend. Attrition on a college football team is the natural way of things and it always has been. But with the portal, it's more pronounced than ever. So how many current Texas players will enter the portal? And how many do I think Texas will add from the portal? I…

No. 1 ranked class loading? : Yes, no or maybe Signing day is just eight days away, and Steve Sarkisian and staff are deep sea fishing. And that is putting it mildly. Texas currently has 24 commitments, and sitting inside the top 5 class rankings at No. 4. There are six prospects right now that OnTexasFootball is monitoring closely headed into signing day December 4. And any combination of winning three of the six would place Texas No. 2 in the class rankings, with a realistic shot at No. 1. In the latest edition of Yes, maybe or no; OTF believes Texas has three leans right now with two being significant leads. Yes Kellen Wiley, LB, Seffne…

For the first time in 13 years the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry is off of timelines and onto the gridiron. Real bragging rights are in order. While the game returning is great for fans all over the state, it is even more important for future classes of recruits in the state of Texas. Since Texas hired Steve Sarkisian on January 2, 2021, there have been some tremendous back and forth for top prospects in the state who have seen their decisions come down to the Longhorns or the Aggies. A rundown of the big ones since Sarkisian was hired. *** 2022 Cycle LB Harold Perkins – Cypress (Texas) Park LSU Signee Who could forget this one? Texas really…

There’s a problem with the Texas defense… for opponents. Texas is the no. 1 defense in the country. But the fascinating aspect of this defense is that it’s not just any single overwhelming player who is leading the charge. Instead, it’s a collection of players coming at opponents in a variety of ways, and from all three levels of the defense. Texas not only has Colin Simmons. They have Trey Moore, too. Texas not only has Barryn Sorrell setting the edge. There’s Ethan Burke, too. Alfred Collins is joined by Jermayne Lole who is now rivaling Moore, Andrew Mukuba and Isaiah Bond as the team’s most important off-season portal addition. At linebac…

Texas Hoops: Key team notes The Texas Longhorns are on the verge of returning to the AP Poll and Coaches Poll top 25 after winning the UKG Legends Classic last weekend. OTF gathered some notes on the team, with a major development. Saint Joe's ... Members of the Texas staff believe Saint Joe's could end up being a Sweet 16 level team. The staff considers that very much a quality win that will continue to look better as the season moves along. Jayson Kent's injury status ... OTF was informed that forward Jayson Kent's wrist injury is going to keep him out for a while. There is the possibility of a medical redshirt depending on how long he is out. …

Monday AM Recruiting: Thoughts on targets and commits The Texas Longhorns have the No. 4 ranked class with the commitment Saturday by 4-star+ defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou (Loganville, Ga./Grayson). With the level and number of top targets remaining, Texas is zeroing in on the No. 2 class with a shot to finish No. 1 on December 4. OnTexasFootball begins Monday with thoughts on the top 5 targets remaining on the board. Texas is 10–1 on the season and will focus all attention over to the Texas A&M Aggies during the Thanksgiving week. Of course, as the Longhorns did their part to hold up their end of the bargain with the win, and before we start looking ahead, let's reflect on the game from Saturday with five biggest takeaways. *** On Quinn Saturday was a bit unfortunate for Quinn Ewers. I thought his first half was really, really solid. Ewers threw for 177 yards and 2 TD in the first half on 17-26 passing. It was a really strong start in my opinion. And then Ewers gets dinged on the hip drop tackle and turned into a relative shell of himself in the pocket. My thou…

On this Sunday, I want to hear from some of you. I wrote this morning that my theme for this season so far has been consistency. This team has been overwhelmingly consistent IMO relative to other teams, especially in the SEC. What are y’all’s themes to this season, what are y’all seeing that we should be thinking about more?

The Texas Top 4 class: What's left? The Texas Longhorns are sitting at 24 commitments with the Saturday addition of four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou. With the commitment, Texas is sitting at No. 4 in the class rankings in the industry. Some recruiting notes from yesterday and a bit of an overview that missed much of it while at the game: - Grayson, Ga., DL Joseph Mbatchou became the 24th commitment of the class of 2025. Of Cameroon descent but a longtime Atlanta resident, Mbatchou is playing his first year of high school football yet became one of the hottest recruiting commodities late this year. - Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick DL Nathaniel Marshall made a surprise official visit to Austin over the weekend. Marshall has been committed to Auburn. He becomes the latest DL the Tigers and Longhorns are fighting over. It’s unclear quite yet just how serious Marshall might be about the Longhorns, but tak…

College Football Playoff: Yep, chaos is here! The first ever 12 team college football playoff is about to get very interesting in the SEC with Ole Miss beating Georgia Saturday. Watching Alabama, A&M and Ole Miss go down yesterday while also seeing Texas dispense with yet another SEC team by double digits should give all of us and sense of just how complete this Texas team is. I still don’t know if this is a great Texas team (only the playoffs cantell us that), but it is certainly a complete, well-coached and consistent one. Outside of the loss to Georgia, Texas has only played one other SEC game to a single score, and that came only after Vanderbilt scored a last-minute touchdown. It’s a Texas team that - despite a poor performance against Georgia - has been remarkably consistent. Winning the games you’re supposed to win…

At the end of the day, a win is a win. *** Texas and Kentucky will kickoff and begin the seventh SEC matchup of the season. Interesting start for the Longhorns, who lose a yard on the first two snaps, but that’s a great throw, in rhythm for Ewers on third down to move the chains. Texas finding something on this first drive. Run game has been good enough to start and Ewers is 4/4 passing to begin the contest. Really good start for the Longhorns. Really, really good start for the Texas offense and especially for Quinn Ewers who goes 6-7 passing for 58 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive. Texas needed to start strong in this game and they did …

Recruiting notes: These are mostly from Gerry who is headed to Austin and driving right now… - In a late surprise, Cocoa, Fla., edge Javion Hilson is headed to Michigan today. Hilson was thought to be deciding between Texas and Texas A&M. But the late - and large - NIL move by the Wolverines with QB Bryce Underwood has some players thinking more about Michigan. Hilson is one of those. - Tampa, Fla., linebacker Kellen Wiley is expected to visit Florida today for its game against Ole Miss. Wiley is close to shutting things down; the Horns are considered the heavy favorite but last-minute visits to other schools should never be underestimated. - Texas…

Texas will play in the UKG Legends Classic Championship Game tonight after holding off Syracuse 70-66 Thursday night. The Longhorns will take on Saint Joseph's (4-1), who beat Texas Tech 78-77. Both Texas and Saint Joseph's surrendered big leads in their games Thursday night, before winning late. Texas beat the Orange Thursday night without power forward Jayson Kent, one of the key contributors to the team. Even with the return of Tramon Mark, that meant the Longhorns have still not played at full strength this season. Texas was paced by senior forward Arthur Kaluma, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tre Johnson added 16 points, d…

A couple of nuggets I wanted to share as the team exits from the practice field on Thursday ahead of Kentucky coming to town for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. *** Steve Sarkisian spoke with media Thursday morning to which he dropped that Tuesday and Wednesday's practices were "feisty" and physical. Physical is a typical description used from head football coaches, but feisty is not. You can put two and two together on what that might entail, but according to Steve Sarkisian, the feistiness displayed in the practice sessions was something he enjoyed seeing. “In a weird way, I kind of enjoyed it," Sarkisian said. "In November, for so many teams it ca…

The Texas Longhorns host the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday for the first time since 1951 and the second time ever. In fact, this is the furthest west Kentucky has ever traveled for a football game. Ever. Pretty unreal. But to the game itself, there is a reason this line is set at 20.5 by the computer nerds in Vegas. Texas has more talented on both sides of the ball, will be playing at home and are still in the running for all of their goals set at the beginning of the season – SEC Championship and College Football Playoff run. Five things I want to see for the Longhorns on Saturday which could lead to a victory. *** Start Quick Throughout the week, I…

The Texas Longhorns are in Brooklyn for the UKG Legends Classic with games today and Friday. The Longhorns will take on Syracuse in the opening round, and face either Texas Tech or St. Joe's Friday. Texas is coming off an 89-43 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Tre Johnson and Arthur Kaluma led the Longhorns in scoring with 18 points. Johnson is the leading scorer in the SEC so far this season, averaging 23.5 points per game, including connecting on 17 of 29 from the three-point line. The Longhorns could be with senior transfer guard Tramon Mark for the first time this season. Mark missed the first four games of the season with ankle sprain suffered prior…
