On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. ..... does Ryan Williams perhaps come to visit Texas this summer after portaling in April? Sarkisian's offense has to be looking a lot better to him right now.

  2. That last topic of the 4 most important games is fun to think of. I would say : 1) OU 2) Georgia 3) A&M- 4) Arkansas- (Sark needs to rectify the 2021 trip to Arkansas IMO) the question I have is if sark was to lose to OU 2 in a row,( 1-3 )overall but beat Georgia the following week how would we feel about that?

  3. https://longhornswire.usatoday.com/lists/texas-longhorns-football-2024-nfl-mock-draft-three-round-byron-murphy-jatavion-sanders-adonai-mitchell/ Sanders in Mike McDaniels offense would be fun to watch

  4. On Coffee and Football the topic of non conference games was discussed. More specifically, should we include in our non conference schedule the Michigans and Ohio States. My opinion is quite simple…no. If we were still in the Big 12 then we would need great non conference opponents to elevate our strength of schedule. Since we will have teams like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, etc on a yearly basis there is no need to boost our non conference games as we did when we were playing Baylor, Iowa State, TCU, etc. What do you think?

  5. Oscar Giles is returning to the state of Texas to coach defensive line. Houston officially announces the hiring of former Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles Monday afternoon. Giles was with the Longhorns prior to the hiring of Bo Davis when Steve Sarkisian arrived in 2021. There is familiarity here with the area of recruiting, specifically in the Houston area where he will now be calling H-Town home. The defensive line is an important position in the 2025 cycle and it could get much cloudier with the emergence of Giles to the region. View full news

  6. Starting today, the Longhorns will have four more weeks of winter conditioning before taking a week off for spring break then diving into the beginning of spring ball practice period. The new additions via the portal have been getting acclimated to the day to day life as a Texas football player and most importantly, the culture of the program. I was able to speak with a source around the program over the weekend to get an idea of how the new faces are acclimating with the team so far. *** Former Alabama LB Kendrick Blackshire has had a seamless transition since arriving on campus. Blackshire joins the Longhorn program which boasts several familiar faces fro…

  8. What a wild turn of events coming from Ryan Day's program. As it looks currently, Buckeyes OC Bill O'Brien will head to Boston College to take over the head coaching job. To fill the void, UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly is expected to make the jump down to offensive coordinator according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. What an unprecedented move here. New era of CFB. 9. On Texas Football Forum · Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas basketball moved to 16-8 yesterday. The Horns put together their most complete game of the year, a 94-58 throttling at home of West Virginia. The Mountaineers aren’t very good. But Texas hasn’t been “very good” much of this season. They’ve been average to above average. They’ve lost games they should have won, won games they probably should have lost, etc. In other words, it’s been a somewhat typical basketball year. But they’ve played a decent brand of ball the past three weeks, with the exception of an ugly loss to Iowa State last week. Maybe the Horns are starting to put it together down the stretch. ** Here’s a predict…

  10. Let's look at where players were ranked and what we thought of them coming out of high school. Class of 2021 TE, JT Sanders, Denton Ryan Most accurate recruiting ranking in retrospect: On3: no. 60 national, no. 9 player in Texas; in every other ranking, Sanders was rated as a five star - Sanders was a man among boys in high school. But he rarely played a true tight end; instead, he frequently lined up flanked outside for jump ball opportunities. He also played some defense. Ultimately, he eschewed defense altogether and focused on learning to play a more conventional, NFL-style tight end for the Horns. Takeaway for me: Good player but not an overw…

  13. You know it is the offseason when hypothetical rankings are the subject of conversation, but this is part of why I love college football as much as I do. My personal rankings of the SEC from today, February 9. I will present a case for each school with a brief summary of why their ranking made sense to me. These rankings won't please everybody, which means it's only a matter of time before I get an AP vote, right? Anyways, to the rankings of the SEC from more than 200 days away from kickoff. 1. Georgia Kirby Smart's squad comes in as the top dog in these rankings, pun absolutely intended. Of course, Carson Beck returning for UGA gains all of the headl…

  20. Six key visits for Texas this spring The Texas staff is expected to host a number of unofficial visitors in March and at the Texas spring game April 20. The staff spent December and January showing face time to top targets in the 2025 cycle, while also continuing the evaluation process. An evaluation process that will continue throughout the spring evaluation period ahead of June official visits with decisions to be made. The timing of Kenny Baker being hired as the defensive line coach pushed back a few defensive line visits. That coupled with Texas offering more defensive lineman places a premium on spring visits for the Longhorns at a key position of ne…

So, In my opinion for football a 60yd time is more important than a 100yd time. 60yd gives a better estimation of acceleration (creating space). Assume the 60 yd time is the mark. Who are the 3-4 fastest 60yd time players on the roster right now? My uninformed guess is: 1. Silas Bolden 2. Jaydon Blue 3. Johontay Cook.

  23. I've been in the process of writing a piece for this website about the Texas players who are expected to be selected in this year's NFL draft. I wanted to give a deeper look of just how those players were perceived as recruits. I'll finish and post that article later this morning; it includes some hard and soft data, and it could spark a conversation that I think will prove interesting and informative. Well, as I was researching and writing that article last night, it was announced that the University of Texas had placed another former player into the NFL Hall of Fame. Steve McMichael, who his former teammates at Texas affectionately to this day call "Bam Bam", …
