  2. Major Preston talks Texas offer and April 13 visit One of the late January offers made by the Texas Longhorns was 2025 versatile defensive back Major Preston (Hopewell, Va./IMG Academy). Preston, 6-1 and 185 pounds, was offered by safeties coach Blake Gideon on a school visit to IMG Academy January 30. "I kind of knew it was coming," Preston told OnTexasFootball Monday afternoon. "Three weeks before they offered, Blake Gideon was in the DMV and reached out to my family. Coach Gideon gave me a good, strong impression when he came to IMG. He coaches hard and develops. We definitely had a great conversation when he came to see me." Preston is scheduled…

Our Lady of Good Counsel 4-star Faheem Delane tells OnTexasFootball he will make an unofficial visit to Texas April 13th weekend. Delane, 6-2.5 and 195 pounds, sports 30 offers currently. The Longhorns will be looking to ascend into the conversation with Oregon, Ohio State, Maryland and Tennessee as strong contenders. The SEC programs that have offered are Tennessee, Texas, Georgia (January 5) Auburn (late January), Alabama, LSU, Florida, Ole miss and Texas A&M. Texas offered Delane January 6 of 2024. 5. A little bit of NIL news from behind the scenes. The Texas One Fund continues to put its best foot forward to raise NIL funds for Texas student-athletes. I'm told the group is working on a major charity gala set for mid-May. And the venue will be... DKR. The actual field itself. Chris Del Conte began reaching out to major donors late last week. ** Speaking of the One Fund, the group is beginning to attract the interest of a few companies for sponsorships, among them Benchmark Bank, Covert Auto Group and Ticket City. Hat tip to those companies for their sponsorships. One Fund is doing a nice job of reaching out to multiple levels of …

  6. Texas A&M has made a splash in the 2025 cycle with a commitment from Desoto’s Tiger Riden. Riden was expected to visit Austin during the January 20 junior day, however did not make it in. On that same day, Texas extended an offer to 2025 Chapel Hill RB Rickey Stewart and has been trending for the talented running back ever since. Texas is still in a great spot in the RB room, but this does mark another RB off the board in the state of Texas.

  7. A look at the January and February 2025 prospect offer by Texas The Texas staff offered 19 2025 prospects in January through February 2nd while on the road around the country evaluating the cycle. That list includes four at the Longhorns Junior Day January 20. OnTexasFootball provides a rundown of the offers by Steve Sarkisian and staff. Faheem Delane, S, Only (Md.) Good Counsel 6-2, 195 Texas offered: January 6 The recruitment: 29 offers, including Georgia, Texas and Auburn in January. Told OTF last week a spring visit is possible. Aylin Dear, RB, Quitman (Miss.) High 6-1, 200 Texas offered: January 8 The recruitment: Tashard Choi…

  8. When the spring evaluation period begins in late April, Texas quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee will be making trips in state and nationally to evaluate the 2026 crop of quarterbacks ahead of June camps. These evaluations in person will be critical for Steve Sarkisian and Milwee with the Longhorns yet to extend an offer to a 2026 quarterback as of February 13. OnTexasFootball knows of six 2026 quarterback prospects in the state of Texas that Milwee is expected to evaluate throw in person in May. Jett Surratt, Carthage (Texas) High 6-1, 180 Offers: Texas Tech, Houston, Louisiana Tech Sophomore stats: 204 of 308 for 3,046 yards and 34 TD's with 8 INT's.…

  14. It should come as little surprise, but for those thinking that Texas may attempt to rekindle a game with Texas Tech, Baylor, or any other Big 12 team soon, I am told don't hold your breath. According to a high-ranking university source, the riff between Texas and the Big 12 has not ebbed in recent months, even if it is no longer a major topic within the athletic department. Brett Yormark's public pre-season comments in Lubbock and those of deputy Big 12 commissioner Tim Weiser on radio row at Big 12 media days still echo in the memories of Texas power brokers. Those words and actions have swayed the current University of Texas athletic leadership to no longer ge…

  17. Assuming that the SEC and B1G are going to decide to carve out 48 teams for a non-NCAA football conference, who are the 48? For this exercise, we assume that all the current members are going to be grandfathered in. Assume that leadership is not going to kick anyone out. Assume that no school opts out because of additional financial requirements. SEC needs 8 teams. B1G needs 6 teams. Here are the available teams from next year's Big XII and ACC + Notre Dame. Who is added and where?

  20. Spring Practice: Ten Most Important Longhorns The most anticipated spring practice for Texas in two decades is just 31 days away. While the Longhorns will be ranked in the top 5 in preseason polls, there are still players and positions that need to take key steps this spring to having the chance to maximize the 2024 season. The interior of the defensive line and linebacker are the two positions Texas has to answer this spring and in August. And depth at safety. This list was built out with the understanding that wide receivers Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden are expected to experience a smooth transition, and will be impact playmakers with quality d…
