On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Washington State and Oregon State are trying to maintain their status as a "power" conference with an automatic bid to the CFP. This is clear evidence that the NCAA can't work much longer. They're willing to destroy the sport because they're mad about the break-up of the Pac 12. It seems there is little choice for the SEC and Big 10 but to disassociate from the goobers and play a real sport.

  2. The first 2025 NFL Mock Drafts are already being published well ahead of the 2024 season. As expected, the Texas Longhorns are well represented in various first round mock drafts. And the same can be said for teams on the Texas 2024 schedule. OnTexasFootball.com takes a look at two mock drafts already published. A to Z Sports First Round Mock 3. Will Johnson, CB Michigan It's rare that we see a cornerback go top three, but Will Johnson is a rare talent. Johnson allowed just a 29.1 NFL passer rating to opposing quarterbacks (via PFF) in 2023, absolutely shutting down passing offenses by himself. Receivers hauled in their target less than 45% of the time. …

  3. The 2022 Top 5 ranked recruiting class: How have they fared Headed into spring practice the 2022 top 5 ranked recruiting class has been a key part of the Longhorns ascending to a Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance. Steve Sarkisian's first full class has produced six full time starters (counting specialists), four other players that have started a game and seven more players that are considered key players headed into the 2024 season. When it comes to future NFL draft's, there are five players that are sure to be drafted and two or three others that could move up in the eyes of scouts in 2024. OnTexasFootball.com takes a look…

  7. Do you feel ,or think you will , that teams you couldn’t pull for will change now that they are not on our schedule and not a real recruiting rival threat? I mean all of us probably have a nephew or dad/mom connections to a , Tech etal. Another question , you think a few years down the road, Texas will garner some new following from fans of the Texas Big12 teams?

  9. One of the stops Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker made together in late January was Mansfield (Texas) Timberview High to see OnTexasFootball 4-star DL Dilan Battle. Battle, 6-2 and 295 pounds, spoke with Sarkisian at length February 1. "Coach Sark and I were talking about a lot of personal stuff," Battle told OnTexasFootball Wednesday. "He was interested in helping me with anything I need as a person. He knows my mom works a lot. If it's my grades or anything he can help me with personally, he said he would. Coach Sark told me Texas will always welcome me when it’s available to visit." Battle has not spoken with Kenny Baker since February 1, but the initi…

  11. 2025 Shadow Creek CB Cobey Sellers has dropped a top six for his recruitment and the Longhorns made the cut. Sellers was previously on campus for the January 20 Junior Day and is a teammate of Texas commit Anthony Williams. Oklahoma is a school to keep a close eye on, they have the momentum here as of the early spring window, but regardless, Texas is sticking around.

  12. It would make recruiting a little easier as long as the NIL game is on point, and coaches prove they can develop. https://x.com/timbontemps/status/1759014839144313245?s=46&t=9eFGKa_j2ixAJ_pxXSKF7w

  13. There have been some really great posts on the number of invites to the NFL Combine. Considering there are only 22 starting positions combining offense and defense, having 11 is really amazing, Perhaps this is a metric we should watch for many years. I am expecting this to grow considering we will have more time with these players in development and almost all will be Sark / Sark-coaching team players going forward. It is a great objective measure of development, and also Texas may become a "finishing school" metric with players coming to UT at the end of their eligibility to increase their draft-ability especially if the latest transfers do well next year. Has a…

  14. Found this video highly insightful after the discussion about recruiting rankings last week on the boards. Essentially looks at position by position, and determines how rankings predict draft status and All Pro level performance. For example, rankings do well to predict QBs getting drafted, but are very poor when determining All Pro performance. I found it interesting that LB prediction is poor both at draft and All Pro prediction. Would be interesting to see how how the breakdown looks by college productivity / accolades, as we know that many great college players will never be great NFL players (or even drafted in many cases).

  15. Champions are made in the off-season. The off-season doesn't grab many headlines, and it's not always pretty. A lot of hard work, early morning workouts, increased and improved attention to detail, growth (physically and mentally), tinkering with the personnel and schemes, self-scouting and opponent scouting, it's all part of the process. The right emphasis placed on the off-season pays untold dividends when the season comes. I feel like Steve Sarkisian and his staff nailed last year's off-season; there's no doubt in my mind that the seeds of the 2023 Big 12 championship were planted last winter, during this very same time period we're in now. I spoke …

  19. We currently sit 32 days away from the beginning of spring football at The University of Texas. As our Gerry Hamilton has continued to say, this spring session will be one of the most anticipated spring football periods in decades. As another week of practice concludes, I wanted to share some notes on a couple of early enrollees on the offensive side of the ball as the group gets one week deeper into their college careers. *** The Texas offseason conditioning course changes throughout the week to provide different looks for each workout, but for the most part, there is a consistent approach in the following set-up: Mat Drills, Stations and gassers or 110's …

  21. OTF 4-star Dorian Brew talks Texas Longhorns Conroe, Texas - When talking about the top of the defensive back board in 2025 for Texas, the name Dorian Brew is mentioned as often as any. That's because the 6-2, 197 pound defensive back possesses a combination of frame, quickness, speed, and physicality few can compete with. The cornerback that could also play nickel or safety at the Power 5 level enters the spring with 26 offers, with five schools under serious contention. The five schools where the summer decision will come from are Texas, Ohio State, LSU, USC and Oregon. OnTexasFootball spoke with the 4-star prospect at Conroe High Thursday to get…
