Midwest 4-star EDGE ready to visit Texas Four-star EDGE prospect Damien Shanklin (Indianapolis, In./Warren Central) is headed to Austin for an official visit June 21. That name was surprise to many still getting familiar with the the 2025 cycle of out of state prospects. Shanklin, 6-5 and 232 pounds, is another sign of the Texas national recruiting approach, and growing appeal among top prospects. "When they first offered me, it surprised me," Shanklin told OnTexasFootball Sunday. "I have had an interest in Texas for a while watching the defensive tackles and defensive ends." Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski offered Shaklin in late Septem…

This was a very fun conversation I had with Gerry Hamilton yesterday discussing the possible personnel groups Texas could deploy on the offensive side of the ball in 2024. We also dropped our takes on whether or not Texas’ offense this upcoming fall would be more difficult to defend than what we saw in 2023. View full news

Continuing with a series of insider news and notes that began on Friday morning (you can find those here). This morning, let's discuss the secondary. ** Let's start with the newcomers. Andrew Mukuba is considered a "good athlete". He acts right, does what he's asked but is more naturally a quiet young man, so don't expect a vocal leader, at least not right now, despite the fact that he's a three-year starter. Mukuba's working at safety, looks like a starter and future NFL player, albeit not necessarily an early round pick. He's a little slighter build (he's right at 180 pounds despite being a senior) than maybe some fans will be anticipating. Xavi…

Watched his game last night against Longview. Only a soph but the 6’4 guard is the real deal. They almost won that game due to his play. I am sure Coach T will be watching Trevor’s brother the next 2 years closely.

Tonight the Longhorns start their three game series against Cal Poly. This will be the first time these two teams have squared off against each other. The Mustangs rely on defense to win games. They have been… well, just not that good at the plate. Their pitching and defense keeps them in it, but it’s not elite by any means. Texas, however, is averaging over 10 runs per game (although that stat is somewhat skewed after Tuesday’s game) and I’d expect to see an offensive explosion again this weekend. The Horns currently have the 30th best team batting average in the nation, along with being No. 16 nationally for hits. On the mound, their team ERA is 2.84, w…

The Texas Longhorns are expected to sign five offensive linemen in the 2025 cycle after inking three in 2024. Offensive line coach Kyle Flood made visits in December and January to see many of the top targets from coast-to-coast. Many of the targets in the 2025 cycle attended Texas Junior Day January 20, and are expected back in the spring for unofficial visits prior to the Longhorns narrowing the focus headed into June official visits. OnTexasFootball.com provides a look at the offensive line position prior to the spring evaluation period. #RecruitThroughTheWhistle That prospect is Lewisville High's Michael Fasusi. The 6-4, 295 pound left tackle with …

In the immediate aftermath of the NCAA ruling on the legality of utilizing NIL as a means of inducement and recruiting yesterday afternoon, I reached out to a couple of folks within the Texas NIL Infrastructure. There are two prevailing thoughts: First and foremost, Texas is going to speak with its own NCAA compliance officials and receive some guidance. This ruling is ultra-new. So while it would be easy to just say the old rules don't matter anymore, Texas is going to make sure of the nuances of the ruling, what they mean, and what proper next steps are. There will be lawyers involved in that discussion. Second, it will absolutely change how "some" o…

Indianapolis (In.) Warren Central 4-star EDGE in the 2025 cycle Damien Shanklin confirmed with OnTexasFootball Friday that he has an official visit scheduled to Texas June 21-23. Michigan, Texas, Tennessee Notre Dame and Ohio State have emerged as the schools at the top of the list for the 6-4, 230 pound pass rusher. He will make visits to all five, both in the spring and summer OV's. Notre Dame is expected to receiver a spring unofficial and June official visit. Texas offered Shanklin in September of 2023. OTF will have more on Shanklin this weekend.

The No. 7 women's track and field program won the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championships scoring 135 points. The No. 7 men's team finished third with 89. Saturday's title marks the 14th overall indoor title for the Longhorns and was its ninth in 10 seasons. Head coach Edrick Florèal has now led the women to nine overall titles (5 indoor / 4 outdoor) in 11 competitions. The women were led by sophomore Dejanea Oakley who was named the Big 12 Indoor High Point Performer after scoring 20 points at the meet. It's the 10thtime a Longhorn has earned the award and first time since Kynnedy Flannel in 2021. The women championed six events at the meet and four on the final day…

Five-star WR Jaime Ffrench has locked in an unofficial visit to Texas. The former Alabama commit will be on campus April 6th, adding to what is already an impressive list of prospects on the offensive side of the ball for that weekend. Ffrench has been fond of Sarkisian's offense in the past and mentioned previously to me the production from the Texas WRs has caught his attention plenty of times in the past. View full news

I have made a handful of stops to Austin area schools over the last week – Pflugerville Weiss, Lake Travis, Vandegrift. While most of these trips conclude with the big-time Texas prospect receiving all of the love and shine, I wanted to drop a little scouting report for prospects in the area that could eventually end up on P5 radars. *** Pflugerville Weiss 2027 WR Tre Moore (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) – Coaches at Weiss raved about his potential. Big-body wide receiver with fluidity and soft hands. Programs are already biting here and it is only a matter of time before he gets the 'National Prospect' title to his name. Chris Jackson stopped by this winter.…

OnTexasFootball caught up with 4-star DL Zion Williams this afternoon. Texas DL coach Kenny Baker spoke with Zion Williams Thursday. Nothing major of note, other than continued relationship building, and Williams and his mom are looking at dates he could visit Texas this spring. Spring Game is possible. Same goes for Texas A&M. Williams will make an unofficial visit to LSU March 9. He also has a visit set up to TCU May 3-5. That will be an official visit.

Four-star scheduled to talk to Steve Sarkisian Monday Missouri City, Texas - One of the most recent offers by the Texas Longhorns in the 2025 cycle is scheduled to talk to Steve Sarkisian Monday. Hightower (Texas) High defensive back Kade Phillips was offered by safeties coach and area recruiter Blake Gideon Sunday. It was an offer Phillips and family had been waiting on for a few weeks. "The Texas offer meant a lot to me," Phillips told OnTexasFootball. "Texas is a big school, big culture and it meant a lot. It felt great. Coach Gideon came to see me multiple times. He came to track practice, came by the field house multiple times just to talk. Texas is go…
