We’ve talked a lot about individual players and what growth/development we want to see. But what kind of growth do we want to see from Sark next year as a head coach? For me, it’s game management and red zone offense. I also think he doesn’t need to be so rigid in sticking to the script if something isn’t working or something else is. For example, I don’t think Washington was showing any signs of stopping our run game and wish he would have called it until they proved they could stop it. What do y’all think?

One of the expected strengths of the Texas football team in 2024 should be the running back room. But not necessarily in a typical way. There’s not a single back expected to carry the load. There’s no Bijan Robinson expected to be RB1 off the board in the NFL draft. Rather, it’s the cumulative nature of the RB room that has folks hopeful. So I wanted to take a deeper dive on what those aspects, those strengths, are and perhaps take a look at perceived shortfalls, too. Cedric Baxter Relative Strengths: strong inside runner, good hands, willing blocker, one cut quickness, can run through arm tackles Question Marks: could add even more stre…

Wednesday Morning Recruiting: Familiar last name on the Texas radar Another Goosby on the Texas radar Trevor Goosby is one of the up and coming offensive lineman in the Texas program with a strong possibility to be the next left tackle for the Longhorns after Kelvin Banks departs for the NFL following the 2024 season. The Longhorns are now seriously recruiting the next Goosby. Melissa (Texas) High 2026 6-5.5 shooting guard Austin Goosby is having a terrific sophomore season on the hardwood, and continues to grow with 6-7/6-8 not out the question. Rodney Terry and staff are now in contact with the Goosby camp. And so is Kansas, Duke and a growing list of others. Goo…

I've watched a couple of Sooner channels talk about CDC's comments on the nine game schedule and the Longhorns playing A&M every year. There is a mixture of Sooner reaction to the nine game schedule. About half want to keep the extra cupcake on the schedule that goes with having eight conference games, knowing it's going to be really tough for them to take another heavy hitter every single year. The other half says, that's why they joined the SEC, so let's do it. What really interested me was that there was some conjecture on the "one permanent rival" game if there isn't a nine game conference schedule. If the Longhorns play the Aggies every year, and there's onl…

Tyler Thomas has multiple visits scheduled to Texas Dickinson, Texas - One of the top offensive line targets for the Texas Longhorns in the 2025 cycle is Tyler Thomas (Dickinson, Texas/High). Thomas, 6-5 and 320, was offered by Texas June 3, 2023 following the Longhorns Elite Camp. Since that time, offensive line coach Kyle Flood has made the Galveston County area standout a priority. And Thomas has reciprocated the Texas heavy interest with at least four visits to Texas for games and camps. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and Flood stopped by Dickinson High in January to meet with Thomas. Thomas didn't hold back his thoughts on Texas headed i…

Monday afternoon recruiting nuggets Let’s start the Monday afternoon nuggets with an update on Texas 4-star defensive line commit Brandon Brown (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie). Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker and the 6-1.5, 285-pound explosive defender spoke on the phone for the first time late last week. According to Brown, the conversation lasted “about ten minutes”. “He was letting me know that he was trying to get his family situated in Austin,” Brown told OnTexasFootball Monday. “He said he wanted to get me out in the spring to visit. He was talking about my twitch and the way I get off the ball - he liked that." The news of Baker and…

I stopped by Pflugerville Weiss earlier this morning to catch up with what I believe will be a top target for Texas in the 2026 cycle – Jerald 'JJ' Mays. This was my first time seeing Mays in person and I was thoroughly impressed. He stands right now around 275 pounds, but has plenty of room to go in his 6-foot-4 frame and has already begun gaining weight since the offseason. He mentioned this morning he hopes to get up to 290 pounds by the beginning of next season. By all accounts, Mays is an interior guy at the next level. Plenty of schools project him as a guard while several have pitched center. Interestingly, he will be play left tackle next fall, but he ha…

The 6-foot-5 and 315-pound offensive lineman has four offers so far in his recruitment; Texas Tech, SMU, Duke and Colorado. We are 29 days away from the beginning of spring practice. As we continue to inch closer and closer to the highly anticipated start of the next era of Texas Football in the SEC, there remains a number of high priority boxes that remain unchecked at the moment. Over the next four weeks, I will be taking a look at some of the biggest team needs going into spring ball based off conversations I have had with folks around the program. Today, we begin in the secondary. *** It was seven weeks ago when Michael Penix threw for 430 yards in the College Football Playoff against the Texas defense. A night where it felt like he could do no wrong, Penix torched a Texas s…

ESPN's NFL Draft expert Matt Miller fielded questions from media members today following the release of his latest two-round NFL Mock Draft. Of course, with Texas sending 11 players to the NFL Combine, there were plenty of Longhorns that were mentioned during the availability and I wanted to share notable quotes and tidbits Miller shared in regards to Texas' Draft hopefuls. *** Where the Longhorns fell in Miller's latest Mock Draft: 16) DL Byron Murphy (SEA) 32) WR Xavier Worthy (KC) 38) WR Adonai Mitchell (TEN) 49) TE Ja'Tavion Sanders (CIN) 54) DL T'Vondre Sweat (CLE) 58) RB Jonathon Brooks (GB) *** Longho…
