The bottom line? Texas did what it was supposed to do. They dispensed early with an outmanned and outgunned opponent. While no game is perfect, the Horns didn’t let this game get “muddy”. Following the 4th and 1 conversion Texas literally swamped the Gators. It was a critical, early decision by Steve Sarkisian, but one that paid off with the type of performance a team can build on, particularly the Texas offense. Texas not only scored 35 first-half points, they played complimentary football while doing so. The offense scored in bunches, the defense created multiple turnovers and three-and-outs. That is the blueprint to follow for a team that …

Texas is back after the bye week and is expected to face off with Florida who is down to 3rd string quarterback and Yale transfer, Aidan Warner this morning. Things should go in the favor of the Longhorns, but until you see it put together for 60:00, the questions will remain. *** 1st Quarter Texas will get the ball to begin the game. Let’s see something here, Quinn! Quinn Ewers looked sharp to begin the game. Three straight completions to begin the game and the Longhorns are cruising to midfield. Ewers looks good early on. He goes 5/5 in the first possession for 53 yards, yet the Longhorns end up with no points after a disastrous final three…

OnTexasFootball was on the road this morning down to Alamo Heights for the Navy All-American Bowl jersey ceremony for five-star ATH Michael Terry III. A few recruiting nuggets from the ceremony: First, Terry tells OTF that his decision is officially down to Texas and Nebraska. Matt Rhule has been a big factor in this recruitment for the Cornhuskers while the Longhorns have been able to host the San Antonio star for several game visits this season. In his post-ceremony interview with OTF, Terry did not mention a set date for a commitment, but also says a decision is "coming pretty soon." I asked Terry about his trips to Austin this year for games and vi…

Texas coaches are on the road The Texas staff is on the road recruiting to end the off week. Some coaches began making stops Wednesday, and some will be out Thursday and Friday. That includes head coach Steve Sarkisian. Sark in DFW Head coach Steve Sarkisian is on the road in DFW today seeing commitments and a top target committed elsewhere. Sarkisian is expected at half of the Dallas Skyline (Elijah Barnes) vs. DeSoto game tonight. Prior to that, one of the stops will be at Lewisville High to see 5-star OT and Oklahoma verbal Michael Fasusi. Chris Gilbert is also on the road in DFW, and one of his stops Thursday was Mesquite Horn High to see …

The Longhorns are back on the field for the first time in two weeks. No more weeks off for this Texas squad in the 2024 regular season which means if you have the opportunity to beat a bad football team and manufacture some rest for your starters, you need to take advantage. I predicted a 38–13 score in favor of the Longhorns for Saturday's kick, but here are the keys to victory for the ballgame. *** Strong 1Q I think this has been a constant for the last four ballgames if I remember correctly. Texas has failed to do this in the last three games at least. Florida is not going to be good at quarterback in this game and will look to shorten the game via …

Hoops season is here: No. 19 Texas vs. Ohio State Game Thread The 2024-25 college basketball season is here. Tonight in Las Vegas, the No. 19 ranked Texas Longhorns will take on an Ohio State team considered to be a top 30 level team in the country. Two NCAA Tournament level teams play to start the season. There are two headlines tonight for the season opener. One, it's the deb ut of 5-star freshman shooting guard Tre Johnson. The 6-foot-6 scoring guard scored 31 in a closed door scrimmage against Colorado last weekend. He averaged 22.0 in two closed door scrimmages. Two, the availability of senior transfer Tramon Mark. The 6-foot-5 lefty guard is listed as da…

Four-star Graceson Littleton talks Texas ahead of OV Wesley Chapel, Fla. - OnTexasFootball made a stop at Wiregrass Ranch High northeast of Tampa Monday to see Texas cornerback target Graceson Littleton. The 4-star+ that moved to the Tampa area from Kansas prior to his freshman year told OTF that he has locked in his official visit to Texas this weekend for the game vs. Florida. He will be accompanied on the OV by his mom, step dad and brother. "I wouldn't say I was surprised (Texas offered)," Littleton told OTF Monday afternoon. "I have been on a visit there before (last spring), and then they were in contact about a week and half before they offered. I'…

A couple of recruiting nuggets ranging over the 2026 class and an update on Michael Terry III. *** – First, Texas will host 2026 Mater Dei WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt for the Florida game this weekend. The 6-foot-2-inch wide receiver from the west coast was last on campus for the June 1 Elite Camp and is someone the Longhorns have had long ties to. Dixon-Wyatt visited in early March, June 1 for the Elite Camp and again at the tale end of July. Now he returns for the Florida game this weekend. – 2025 Alamo Heights ATH Michael Terry III will receive his All American Bowl game jersey Friday morning during a ceremony in his high school gymnasium. Terry is…

Quick update on Colt Munroe, Blake’s son. He is off the ventilator and doing much better. He’s got some healing in front of him but things appear to be headed in the right direction. ** According to Florida coach Billy Napier, quarterback DJ Lagway practiced on Wednesday. How much he practiced is unclear. But to be back on the practice field four days after being carted off the field is a strange turn of events. I still wouldn’t count on Lagway playing. But I wouldn’t count it out entirely either. I’ve tried to remember a situation where someone was carted off the field and then played the very next week. In my lifetime of covering the sp…

How does Texas go about completing the 2025 class? Already the Longhorns have 21 commits in the current cycle and there remains plenty of spots remaining for what could be a top three class this cycle. An evaluation of what remains for the Texas staff: *** Quarterback KJ Lacey – Saraland (Ala.) High The Longhorns are happy with the commitment of KJ Lacey out of Saraland. Auburn has tried and tried to get in between the two sides but there is very little right now that keeps me from seeing Lacey ending up in Austin. Running Back Rickey Stewart – Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill James Simon – Shreveport (Louisiana) Calvary Baptist Acad…

Even amid a national election, yesterday was a fairly normal Tuesday for us at On Texas Football. Until the early afternoon. Things changed in a blink of an eye for our Blake Munroe and his wife Krista. The staff at On Texas Football received a quick text from Blake. Their oldest son, Colt, was at football practice. He went over the middle to catch a pass. He was tackled, a normal tackle. But Colt writhed in pain and was taken to the nearest ER. Blake was with him. But the story didn’t end there. We found out hours later that that ER wasn’t equipped enough for the care Colt needed. So Colt was care-flighted to a bigger hospital in Fort W…

Texas and Notre Dame, two of the nation’s most storied college football programs, will play each other in 2028 and 209, according to sources of On Texas Football. The Longhorns’ AD Chris Del Conte has often espoused the view of creating challenging non-conference schedules. In the next five years alone, Texas will play Ohio State twice, Michigan once and now Notre Dame twice. View full news story

Buy Tre Johnson stock now. ** The Texas basketball team went down 80-72 to Ohio State on Monday night in Las Vegas. The Buckeyes hit a barrage of threes in the first half. Though they made it a game in the second half, Texas truly never fully recovered. However, there is little doubt about one thing. The Longhorns have a new superstar in the making. Tre Johnson is the best basketball player - not just prospect - that Texas basketball has enjoyed since Kevin Durant. He is that good, that promising. In his first game as a Longhorn, Johnson scored 29 points. But it wasn’t your normal 29 points, it was how he got them. It rarely, i…

Texas DB commit Zelus Hicks has reclassified to the 2025 cycle. Our Gerry Hamilton had hinted at this move for a couple of months now and a month prior to signing day, it comes to fruition. The Longhorns will need to hold onto Hicks' pledge for one final month here. Hicks of course was at Tennessee over the weekend so the race isn't entirely over. However, his move into the 2025 class means the Texas Longhorns now have defensive backs of Hicks and Jonah Williams in the current cycle. Tremendous duo. View full news story

Texas has four games remaining in their regular season and for the month of November, it will be full steam ahead. No more bye weeks, no more time for rest. The bye week is great for a few reasons. First and foremost, the rest and recovery aspect for guys like Isaiah Bond and Andrew Mukuba allows for the Longhorns to return back to full strength. But more than that, the bye week allows for the coaching staff to focus in on younger players who are not a big part of the weekly on-field product. Through eight games this season, eight true freshmen have burned their redshirt while seven true freshmen have yet to see the field at all. The 2024 class has brought solid…

We talked in the preseason about how much more “physical” the SEC is as a conference than the Big 12. Well, I think I understated that importance. All you have to see for proof is the vast number of injuries across the conference. While most will mention the QBs, and rightfully so given Texas may face two back-ups over the next two weeks, it’s really the week-in, week-out wear and tear on a team’s entire roster. It’s just not like other leagues. I watched the Georgia-Florida game on Saturday. I watched South Carolina overwhelm the Aggies. I watched parts of Ole Miss-Arkansas and Tennessee-Kentucky. There was not a single game where a potentia…
