I don’t think David Gbenda will get unseated this season. He has a crazy motor, he will get better in coverage, and in fact did improve toward the end of last season.

I have a two part question that I was hoping that Gerry, Bobby or CJ could discuss. Either on Coffee & Football or in this tread if they are able. Anyone else for that matter who cares to provide their thoughts and insight would be welcomed. After listening to Gerry & CJ on the recruiting breakdown yesterday, it got me thinking about our quarterback of the future. Quinn will be gone after the 2024 season. We all assume that Arch will be the starter for 2025 & 2026 season. What about 2027? I say 2027 because neither of Arch’s uncles declared early for the draft. Both stayed to finish out their eligibility I believe. Unlike Quinn who skipped his sen…

Thinking about SEC snobbery has me wondering. The SEC has the most titles this century, but do they have the best team? Probably not. I think Everyone would agree that Georgia's best team was 2021, but they weren't undefeated; they lost to Bama in the SEC title game. Problem there was that they didn't have a difference maker at QB. LSU's 2019 offense was among the best, but they really weren't that great defensively. Bama's 2015 team was complete, but they don't really seem to stack up with the greatest, most talented teams of all time. Bama's 2020 team was a great offensive team, but it was the weird Covid year that's hard to figure. So we go back to the first deca…

2026 Saraland (Ala.) DL Antonio Coleman has flipped from Auburn to Alabama. (Again). Coleman accompanied KJ Lacey on the visit to Texas this past weekend. I’m sure this one still has plenty to go.

OnTexasFootball expects 2025 DL JJ Hanne (Berlin, Germany/Rancho Santa Margarita) to commit to Georgia sooner rather than later - barring a major change. Georgia has been considered the favorite since offering in early June. Hanne has an OV scheduled to Georgia September 7-9 and Texas September 28-29. OTF doesn’t believe he will make the OV to Texas if he commits UGA soon.

OnTexasFootball 4-star+ OL Nick Brooks will not be attending John F. Kennedy High on Cedar Rapids, Ia. as a senior. OTF has learned that the 6-7, 355 pounder will be attending high school in the Atlanta area as a senior. He attended a private school in Alpharetta, Ga. as a sophomore prior to his family moving back to the Cedar Rapids area.

I like the OL we have in the ‘25 class - it seems like Flood has been able to get the guys he wanted for the most part, but for the ‘25 class we have: Jordan Coleman - possibly a tackle but seems more likely a guard Devin Coleman - guard/center John Mills - possibly a tackle but maybe a better fit at guard Jackson Christian - probably a guard Then we are potentially leading for Nick Brooks, who again seems like a more natural guard to me, but maybe I’m wrong. With us maybe looking less than 50/50 for Fasusi, is it valid to be worried we are getting too many IOL and not enough OTs?

How about the former Longhorn in Paris currently! At halftime, Texas USA leads Serbia by nine. Kevin Durant has 21 PTS on 8-8 shooting in the first half. What a start for Durant in his first action back with Team USA.

When recruits verbally commit to programs like Oregon with a blank NIL check, how many of them are actually trying to squeeze a bit more from other programs that they may actually want to go?

I’ve been a victim of this too. Jahdae is about to come into the season fully recovered from an injury, and even with All SEC preseason second team honors I don’t think either the SEC or fans remember how good he was 2 years ago and healthy. He will make every facet of the defense better.

If true this makes me sad because of what Sark’s already been through in his life. I also have to say… I hope this doesn’t distract Sark from what he needs to do.

Just seen that Steve and Loreal Sarkisian jointly filed for divorce, citing that their careers have made it difficult for spending time with one another. Somebody has to be the A-hole and ask the question. How does this impact Sark this season and beyond?

OnTexasFootball has been told that the visit for Hanne is going very well. Hanne has set up an official visit date. We are waiting for the exact date, likely in September.

I think people are underestimating the jump Ethan Burke will take this year again. He was elite at using his length and lean last season, but I think he was still getting used to the weight he had put on the off season prior. I think he will come into the season with more twitch to go along with his length and size just for having lived with it for another year.

I've been listening to quite a few SEC talking heads opine on the "Texas won't run the SEC" mantra. I have yet to see or hear anyone grasp the totality of the dynamic at work. They keep wanting to talk about idiotic things like voting. Now, the proper analogy for Texas running the Big 12 isn't voting (you don't vote your way achievement) but rather influencing through power politics and economics. For example, the US runs NATO. Member countries have a vote, but they don't have the money and the power. The US has the money and power. That's the deal. As American citizens we think we should run NATO because we foot the bill and back it up with military strength. Likew…

The Arnolds and Itkins have participated in helping Texas with numerous facility projects, with team-wide NIL deals and numerous other items that benefit the University and Texas athletics. Their generosity, and the generosity of others like them, play a major role in making Texas the best athletic department and university in the country. Hook’Em!

For folks in Tulsa who want to come hang out with other Longhorns tonight, I’ll be at the Go West Events Center beginning at 6pm for the annual Tulsa Texas Exes scholarship fundraiser. Again, it’s a fundraiser so it’s $60 at the door with a deluxe buffet. Former Longhorn all-conference football player Lance Taylor is the Tulsa Exes president and was nice enough to invite me. If you’re in the area, come on out and support a good cause if you can.

Galveston (Texas) Ball 4-star+ safety Jonah Williams and parents visited Texas today. Williams spent a lot of time with Steve Sarkisian, Blake Gideon and the defensive staff. Of course, baseball is part of the equation with the Williams recruitment. Williams, 6-3 and 205 pounds, was not able to meet with the Jim Schlossnagle or the staff in person today as the staff is out of town. He did have a FaceTime call with Schloss and staff members today. Williams will head to LSU tomorrow ahead of an August 14 decision. Texas put their best foot forward, and believes they are in contention. Where Texas truly sits, they don’t yet have a feel for inside the fa…
