Big games evoke big feelings. I think we all could sense the anticipation with Ohio State. With Oklahoma. And now with Georgia. There’s a reason for that. We all know a college football season typically is decided by only a few games each year. This is clearly one of them. ** As a program, Georgia has what Texas wants. They have elite players, they have a championship coach, but most importantly, they have a championship pedigree. Essentially, any time Georgia loses, it’s an upset. That’s exactly where Texas fans want to be. The irony is, to get there, the Longhorns have to go through those very same Bulldogs. I don’t…

On Monday, it’s revealed that Arch Manning has talked with Bama quarterback Ty Simpson about common SEC opponents. On Tuesday, fired Florida coach Billy Napier shows up at the Georgia practice the week of the Bulldogs’ game against the Longhorns. In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t make up these sorts of storylines as a writer because no one would believe they’re true. But here we are. They’re both very real. Welcome to the SEC. It just means more. 😉 ** Gerry’s been on the road this week covering a couple of late recruitments we’re keeping an eye on. Josiah Vilmael, the 6-1 corner with track speed out of Fort Bend Travis, and Brysten Martin…

Tendencies of the Georgia Bulldogs in 2025 *** The Longhorns have a great opportunity on Saturday to make a huge statement to not just the College Football Committee, but to the college football world in general. For Steve Sarkisian, a win gets you one step closer to a third consecutive playoff appearance, but it would also mark the first win over Kirby Smart in the head to head. With what we have seen so far from the Georgia squad, I wanted to share some tendencies that the Bulldogs have put on the field in 2025 for a little preview of what is to come on Saturday. **** Zachariah Branch – Extension of the Run Game The former USC Trojan …

I keep thinking about a path to victory for Texas against Georgia. And I think it’s a relatively slim one. Slim enough for me to think it’s unlikely to happen. With Texas nearly six-point underdogs, Las Vegas seemingly confirms my suspicions. So why do I feel this way? Since their Alabama loss, this Georgia team appears to be on a mission. Sure, it’s a similar one to Texas. Win or leave your fate in the hands of another. Yet Georgia seems to have been more focused and more consistent for longer. And the Bulldogs have not once shown the outright ineptitude that a Texas team did against a Kentucky or UTEP. They even overcame five straight Ole M…

Tuesday Recruiting: Bey still in play?, visits and Goosby The recruiting wheels are moving quickly in both football and basketball. Steve Sarkisian and staff are working to sign a fifth straigth top 5 level class, while Sean Miller awaits two Friday announcements that will in part set the portal strategy in the spring. OTF provides the latest from the recruiting trail. Legend Bey planning a Texas visit? Ohio State flipped North Forney playmaker Legend Bey from Tennessee on Monday. Last night, the 5-10.5, 175-pounder told OTF via DM that he may still make a visit to Texas November 22. OTF isn't exactly buying that fully, but Texas will keep trying t…

Texas With Eyes Set on Continuing 2025 Campaign, Leaving 2024 Behind *** If there was one message echoing through the Texas football facility on Monday, it was this — no talk of revenge, no backward glances at 2024. The Longhorns aren’t chasing losses of Longhorns' past. Rather than rehashing the two games against Georgia from last season, every word and every tone from Monday’s media availabilities carried a single theme: focus. The kind that sharpens when a team knows what’s still in front of it. Head coach Steve Sarkisian set the tone early. Since the conference-opening loss to Florida, Sarkisian’s message to his team has been steady and simple. …

While several players went home over the long weekend before returning yesterday afternoon, Texas receiver Ryan Wingo stayed in Austin to receive ongoing treatment for the thumb he dislocated against Vanderbilt. Wingo had made major progress during last week but he wanted to stay back in Austin to keep receiving treatment to make sure he’s as close to 100-percent as possible. Wingo and safeties Michael Taaffe, Jelani McDonald and Xavier Filsaime are all still working through injuries this week. ** With no Texas game to discuss, several folks on the message board started debating the decisions made during the off-season regarding the offensive line. …

Chris Jackson was by Panther Creek High Thursday to see 4-star++ Oregon verbal Jalen Lott. Texas and Lott have continued to have positive conversations this season. Camden Heide didn't play in Texas' 97-60 win over Lafayette on Saturday. After coaching the Longhorns to his first win in the 2025-26 home opener at Moody Center, Sean Miller said Heide is dealing with "a shoulder situation that we're monitoring." "We don't think it's anything that will keep him out for any length of time," Miller said. "We're optimistic that he could return this coming week and, potentially, the next game. Certainly, we would love to have him available." The 6-foot-7-inch, 215-pound Heide is a career 41.2-percent 3-point shooter, going 49-for-119 from beyond the arc in 75 career games over two seasons at Purdue. Heide played nine minutes in Tex…

The Longhorns made two new scholarship offers yesterday. North Forney athlete Legend Bey, who has been committed to Tennessee since the summer, was offered by receivers coach Chris Jackson and head coach Steve Sarkisian yesterday. Bey plays quarterback in high school but with 10.6-second 100-meter speed, he likely plays wide receiver in college. He is one of the state’s most electric players. Texas did not offer earlier in the process because Bey initially wanted to play quarterback. But things appear to have changed. Bey recently returned from a visit to Ohio State. We’ll see if Bey decides to visit the Longhorns before signing day. The other off…

The first CFP rankings were released last night and Texas, coming in at no. 11, got a little more respect than some figured they would. The Longhorns were ranked above both Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, two teams they’ve beaten. That should seem obvious yet the Horns are ranked behind OU in the AP poll. Also of note, Texas is the second-highest rated two-loss team, behind only Notre Dame who sits at no. 10. ** The SEC clearly has the attention of the CFP. The conference has six of the top 12 rated teams in the CFP. 3. Texas A&M 4. Alabama 5. Georgia 6. Ole Miss 11. Texas 12. Oklahoma By comparison, the Big 10 has three…

Texas gets to kick its feet up and relax this weekend, a welcomed few days of rest and recovery following five consecutive weeks of football. As a result, the Longhorns and Texas fans everywhere will get to sit back and watch the carnage of college football take place for at least one more weekend. A few games I will be watching and some of the implications that will come as a result. *** No. 7 BYU at No. 8 Texas Tech – 11:00 a.m. on ABC If Texas Tech wins: The Red Raiders would pencil themselves into the Big 12 title game, and the conference game between Cincinnati and BYU would determine their opponent. Worst case is Tech wins this weekend, then…

In the wake of Marshawn Kneeland of the Cowboys and his death yesterday, Rod Babers, Bob Shipley and Marcus Myers talked candidly about it on the livestream last night. The segment starts at about the 53-minute mark. If you have the opportunity and only read or listen to one other thing today, I really think it’s worth your time. It’s as good and honest of a segment as we’ve ever had on On Texas Football IMO. Thanks to Coach, Rod and Marcus for letting us hear their candid conversation. https://www.youtube.com/live/JHfNsRTJNyQ?si=glEY_Q3dqseldjAV ** When it comes to the SEC race, there are four relatively heavy favorites this weekend. …
