Texas Prioritizing Recovery During Bye Week *** Texas is just about through with their bye week's worth of practice. And I should use the term practice very loosely. For most of the week, Texas utilized walk-throughs to allow for the team to recharge their batteries after five consecutive weeks of play and hours of travel in between. There was a focus on cleaning up the mental side of the game, especially on the back end of the secondary. But all in all, not much physical strain was put on the Longhorns. Texas at Duke (75-60) thoughts: Morning after If one is doom and gloom or looking for a bunch of negativity, this isn't the post for you. Want to get that out of the way. I'm more excited about the potential of this season after the Duke game, than before. Ouchita Parish (La.) DL Dylan Berymon tweeted late Tuesday evening he would be re-opening his recruitment. Berymon had been flirting with other SEC programs with Ole Miss being the biggest contender. Berymon committed to the Longhorns on June 7th after his official visit in the summer. Now, Texas moves forward with 20 commits in the 2026 class, with Corey Wells, Vodney Cleveland and James Johnson as members of the defensive line haul. *** UPDATE 10:40 pm: Berymon tells OTF he is still “100% committed to Texas” and remains in the class. Longhorns Monitoring 2026 CB Johnathan Joseph Jr. *** Texas hosted a new 2026 Houston Stratford cornerback target Johnathan Joseph Jr. for an unofficial visit on Saturday for the Vanderbilt game. The son of legendary Houston Texan CB Johnathan Joseph Sr., the Houston Stratford star has been seeing time at cornerback, safety and wide receiver in 2025 and has been rising up boards as a senior eval. Not that excuses are worth much, but Steve Sarkisian revealed yesterday that not only was Texas without Michael Taaffe and Jelani McDonald on Saturday, but Manny Muhammad was also sidelined for a while during the game. That means the Horns were without three starters against Vandy at times. Again, it’s no excuse for a fourth quarter meltdown. But context is important. Texas is currently on a four-game win streak. That's tied with Georgia for the third longest current win-streak in the league behind only A&M and Alabama. During that streak, we've seen a team that is maturing, especially on offense. And we've seen a team that is consistently showing a spine when times get tough. Texas vs. Duke: Injury notes ahead of Tuesday's season opener The Texas Longhorns played preseason scrimmages against SMU and TCU without big men Matas Vokietaitas and Lassina Traore. Vokietaitas has been nursing an ankle sprain suffered early in fall practice. In the case of Traore, he has been working back to full strength following missing last season with an ACL injury. 4-star LSU commit in Austin until Sunday OnTexasFootball reported Saturday morning that 4-star offensive tackle Brysten Martinez (Gonzales, La./East Ascension) was a "maybe" to visit Texas for the Vanderbilt game. OTF can now report that not only did the 6-foot-6, 305-pounder make it to Austin for the game, but he will remain in Austin and on campus through Sunday afternoon. Texas offered Martinez May 1, 2024 after a Kyle Flood visit and in person evaluation. At the time, the Longhorns worked to get him on campus.
