Not sure how many of you watched the OU-Alabama game last night. The Sooners lost 34-24 after going up 17-0. Quarterback John Mateer was the focal point of an OU offense that scored just seven points over the final 40 minutes of the game and threw a pick six that completely changed the complexion of the game. ** So this is what I want to discuss this morning: If you were the GM of OU, would you bring Mateer back for 2026? Steve Sarkisian will be in the market for a new running backs coach. Chad Scott is out as the Longhorns RB coach OTF can confirm – Football Scoop was the first to report. Scott was hired by Steve Sarkisian on February 19, 2025 and his tenure ends only ten months in. The Texas running back room was rather lackluster for a number of reasons in 2025, and as the team looks to reset its room in 2026, they will be looking for a new coach to command the room. The key theme of this press conference will obviously be in regards to the hiring of Will Muschamp as the defensive coordinator at Texas. Apparently an outlet has recently reported that Texas defensive back Jonah Williams was hurt in practice. I've checked with a couple of sources on this and I'm told that Williams is practicing. He did suffer a minor setback last week, but it was not serious. Texas was off yesterday, but he's been a full participant in practice. Jonah is also expected to try and balance both football and baseball this spring. He most likely won't be a full participant in spring football, however.

"Boom!" In the words of Bobby Burton! Texas has earned a commitment from 2027 TE JT Geraci out of Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey. Geraci becomes the third commit in the 2027 class, joining DB Greedy James and WR Easton Royal. The 2027 tight end is listed at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds. He was honored as an All-Bergen County and All-Northeast team for his 2026 performance. Geraci chose the Longhorns over a top five of Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. It’s weeks like this that tell a team what they’re really made of. Texas, with its season goals all but evaporated, plays host to an Arkansas team that is winless in conference play. Arkansas interim coach Bobby Petrino, a talented offensive mind, is making one final run at removing the interim tag from his title. Nothing would help more than a victory over Texas. Not only did he lead his team to the 1A-Division II title, he accounted for 13 touchdowns on the day. He had more than 400 yards rushing and 10 TDs and 3 more TDs passing. While most think of Nick Townsend first among the duo of freshman tight ends, Winston is showing signs that he’s got a real future. - Safety Xavier Filsaime continues to take the next steps. According to sources, Texas wide receiver DeAndre Moore has told Texas staffers that he intends to enter his name into the NFL Draft. Moore will miss the Citrus Bowl because of a lingering toe issue that has had him in a boot for the last two weeks. Moore, a junior, has an additional year of college eligibility but has told Texas that he intends to enter the draft. He caught 38 passes this season for 532 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, he totaled 39 catches and seven TDs. Texas expects receivers Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V and Parker Livingstone to return in 2026. View full news story

Amid the six starters on defense who had already opted out of the bowl game, it’s perhaps the seventh that will have the biggest effect. The loss of linebacker Liona Lefau, at least as it relates to potentially defeating Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, could be tough to overcome.
