Update on OL Laurence Seymore, the most recent commitment to Texas: Spoke to someone close to the situation. Seymore is not expected to join Texas until summertime. He is finishing his undergrad degree this semester at Western Kentucky. Texas has a lot of confidence that he will be granted his waiver. However, the only timetable currently for that is “sometime this spring”. He is expected to visit Texas for the first time at some point in the next couple of weeks. View full news story

Texas added a major surprise to its portal class yesterday, an interior offensive lineman: Laurence Seymore of Western Kentucky. Seymore, who is 6-2, 320 pounds, originally signed with Miami out of high school in 2021. He spent two years at Miami before transferring to Akron for two seasons (the first of which he did not play) and then to WKU before last season. All told, he has spent five years in college. Texas is hosting former Georgia offensive guard Jamal Meriweather for a visit Friday morning, On Texas Football has learned. Meriweather appeared in 12 games as a reserve in 2025, and has a career snap count of 77 through three years in Athens. The redshirt sophomore is listed at 6-feet-7-inches and 305 pounds. In his 56 snaps in 2025, Meriweather saw 34 come at left guard, 17 at right guard and 5 at right tackle. Today, Jan. 23, is the last day for the SEC and Big 10 commissioners to come to an agreement on the future of the college football playoff. The SEC wants an expansion to 16 teams. The Big 10 prefers an expansion to 24. Both parties must agree on any changes to the existing agreement. The SEC is said to be unwilling to go to 24. Without that guarantee, the Big 10 is likely to block a slightly expansionary move to 16 (or even 14). If there is an impasse, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey seems ok with keeping the current 12-teams format intact. ** But who really cares about the playoff format?
