  1. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas sports information released a note earlier today that six starters were having off-season surgery, including wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who dealt with an injured wrist from the Mississippi State game on. Despite the surgery, Wingo is NOT expected to miss spring ball. Trevor Goosby, Ty’Anthony Smith and Xavier Filsaime are expected to miss some or all of spring ball as each of them had shoulder surgeries. Arch Manning’s foot surgery is not expected to limit his availability for spring, according to the press release.

  2. Thursday's Positivity Thinking *** 5. Linebacker Duo There is plenty of excitement around the linebacking duo of TyAnthony Smith and Rasheem Biles. Both find ways to make plays on the football and the havoc levels are throughout the roof when it comes to creating pressure and forcing takeaways. Of course, the Citrus Bowl was the cherry on top of a grand second season for Smith. Biles was a first team All-ACC linebacker who amassed 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions in 2025. 4. YAC YAC YAC I was a bit surprised seeing this earlier Thursday morning, but Texas only had one receiver with more than 200 yards after the catch in…

  3. Started by Bobby Burton,

This will be the final day players can be entered into the transfer portal. One big name has already come up. Ole Miss defensive end Princewill Umanmielen, who recorded nine sacks last year, has entered the portal. It’s believed he is likely to head to LSU but Texas will at least throw its hat in the ring. ** Watch for offensive linemen today. That’s almost certainly what Texas is hoping for. ** Lots of post-season lists are being published. For example, the final AP Poll was released and the Horns came in at no. 12. The results of that poll are ridiculous. I think voters made their mind up about Texas after the Georgia ga…

  4. Started by CJ Vogel,

Texas has found their transfer quarterback, as first reported by Chris Hummer of 247Sports. MJ Morris has signed with Texas, a transfer from Coastal Carolina. Morris has 2,021 yards and 20 touchdown passes in his career, after seeing in game time across four different seasons. Morris saw three live action across three games in 2025, he threw for 304 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. The rising senior is originally from Carrollton, Georgia. Morris spent two years at NC State, a year at Maryland and 2025 with the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina. Now, he is a Texas Longhorn View full news story

  5. Grading the Portal Additions by Position *** The final names are appearing today in the transfer portal and while players from Indiana and Miami still have some time to make their decisions, we are reaching the ultimately finality of the chaotic two week span that was Portal Madness. Texas can still add a piece or two. And for the sake of this board, they better still add a piece on the offensive line. But given this is the information made so far, this is where my grades fall on the Texas portal pursuits in 2026. *** Quarterback No portal add in the winter window. We will see if Texas opts for a one-year emergency option out of the gr…

  6. Recruiting notes: Coach Boom on the road The Texas staff is on the road stopping by high schools, extending offers and Steve Sarkisian making in-home visits with top targets. And that also includes defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. Name to absolutely know ... Will Muschamp and Blake Gideon were in Mustang, Ok. Tuesday night to watch 4-star++ cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. (Mustang, Ok./High) play basketball. OnTexasFootball fully expects the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder to be one of the top defensive targets in the 2027 cycle. Mark Orphey offered Osborne Jr. in late October of 2025. Texas expected to be all in on JayQuan Snell ... Steve Sarkisian, …

  7. Biggest Takeaways from the Miami-Indiana National Title Game *** First and foremost, what a finish we had for the 2025-26 season down in Miami last night. Indiana wraps up a never-seen-before program turnaround to win a National Championship just two years into Curt Cignetti's tenure. While watching the game, there were multiple themes I saw noticed that couldn't help but relate to what we saw from Texas in 2025, and what we know about the program under Steve Sarkisian. There were both parallels and disparities that were evident on the field last night that made me draw comparisons to Texas. Should Texas want to make that run next year, this is what I …

  8. Running back to know in 2027 Two running backs in Texas in have taken up the vast majority of oxygen thus far - Landen Williams-Callis of Richmond Randall and SaRod Baker of DeSoto. But it's clearly time for a third to enter the race as best in Texas. Texas running backs coach Jabbar Juluke, along with Michigan and Arizona State RB coaches, stopped by Richland High in the Fort Worth area Tuesday to see Jayshon Gibson (North Richland Hills, Texas/Richland). The 5-foot-9.5, 194-pounder burst onto the scene as a junior rushing for 2,263 yards and 41 TD's on 233 carries, along with catching 19 passes for 387 yards and five more scores. Gibson has …

  10. Thoughts on the Portal So Far *** This is going to be a really interesting week for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the final names entering the portal will pop up over the next 36 hours or so. We should see the final entrants announced by Tuesday night at the latest. Keep in mind players from Miami and Indiana will have a full five more days after tonight's National Title game to announce their plans to enter as well. For Texas the positions of need remain on the offensive line, and an edge rusher. Will there by a surprise pick up or two? I won't count that out. I don't think many forecasted the additions of OL Jonte Neman or LB Markus …

  11. The offensive line The question on many Texas fans mind is how will the portal cycle finish up in terms of likely adding one more impact guard to the 2026 offensive line. While Longhorn nation waits on that to be decided, OnTexasFootball takes a look at where things currently stand on January 19, 2026. The starting line and second team ... LT Trevor Goosby, Redshirt Junior - out for spring after minor shoulder procedure. 15 tackle starts, and 30 games played. The backup: Jordan Coleman, Redshirt Freshman - Texas really likes him as a player. Not a lock he's LT long term. Jaydon Chatman, Redshirt Junior - has worked at numerous positions since arrivi…

  12. Started by Bobby Burton,

One of the items that is extremely undervalued about Arch Manning is ball security. He did not lose a fumble all year long. QBs who take care of the football win a lot of games. Here’s my response to a note about Indiana not losing a fumble after the first game of the season. ** A couple of additional players are entering the portal. We’re still monitoring any new ones that might intrigue the Horns. View full news story

  13. Ranking the portal transfers When ranking the portal transfers into the Texas program in the 2026 cycle, there are a number of ways to look at them. It can be pure talent that will likely show in future NFL Draft's. There is scheme fit. And there is need. In my ranking of the 16 transfers to date, I'm ranking based on the need for Texas in 2026. 1A. Rasheem Biles, LB, Pitt - Biles has All-SEC First-Team and All-American ability. He's every bit the playmaker of Cam Coleman on theo ther side of the ball, and will be a huge key for Will Muschamp's defense in year one. Best pure football player Texas brought in via the portal thus far in the cycle. 1B. Ca…

  14. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas State offensive guard Tellek Lockette told OTF he “was supposed to” visit Texas today. But that visit is apparently off. Lockette gave no further reason. ** As we reported yesterday, we were told Texas does not have any of its existing roster expected to enter the portal this cycle. In other words, the roster bleeding has stopped. That means the Horns’ sole focus now is adding folks to the team. Texas clearly wants and needs another interior OL. Can they get one? That’s a good question. Texas has some hope that one shakes loose late in the process. If so, Texas will be very aggressive. ** Indiana just won a national champ…

  15. Started by Bobby Burton,

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the transfer portal. And that’s understandable. Texas has added 16 players to its roster in less than three weeks. The Longhorns have lost 22 in about the same period of time. The portal is akin to an entire recruiting cycle jammed into a single month. It has been a whirlwind. Texas is still looking to add a couple of players, especially on the offensive line. ** The latest commitment, Markus Boswell, is a the son of former Olympic high jumper (and UT grad) Mark Boswell. Markus played at Lake Travis and was a first-team all district performer in 2023. He then played ball at a prep school for a year bef…

  18. I am told that Texas will have no additional players to add to the portal that haven’t already been poplulated. In other words, the portal window for attrition has officially closed. 20. There has still been no resolution between Texas and at least one of its current players. Our understanding is that the player has filled out the paperwork to go into the portal, but has not been populated into the portal yet. Texas apparently has until Wednesday to do so, which is two business days from Friday (Monday is MLK day, so it is not considered a business day). ** Texas is still open to players who enter the portal officially next week. There are a couple of defensive players of note: Missouri's Damon Wilson and Ole Miss' Princewill Umanmeilen, both of whom specialize in rushing the passer. Umanmeilen is still discussing a return to Ole Miss,…

  21. OTF can confirm the initial report by 247Sports National that Toledo linebacker Markus Boswell has signed with Texas. Boswell was a true freshman for Toledo last season. He registered 19 tackles. He played his high school ball at Lake Travis. Boswell’s father is a former UT and Olympic High Jumper. That makes 16 commitments for the Horns in this portal cycle and the third linebacker, joining Rasheem Biles and Justin Cryer. View full news story

  22. - As we have been reporting, there is a lag between when a player files to go into the portal and when his name actually appears. The lag is typically two business days. So while the portal officially closed to outgoing players at 11:59pm last night, there still could be some uncertainty surrounding a few current Longhorns. - One of those players you can cross off your concern list is freshman defensive end Justus Terry. Terry is staying at Texas for the 2026 season. Terry was one of only a few Longhorns who had not made a final decision as of late yesterday. But he re-signed with the Longhorns. - We are told that at least one Longhorn has filled out the paperwo…

  23. There's been a lot of speculation regarding Texas Women's Basketball guard Aaliyah Crump as of late. The freshman was injured in mid-November and has yet to return to the floor for Vic Schaefer. Apparently there was a recent report that Crump is now going to redshirt, so I reached out to a team source this morning to get the latest. Crump continues to progress from her foot injury and is doing much better. However, no decision has been made on the former five-star at this time. The possibility to return is still there.

  24. Texas is back on the board on the offensive line! Former Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani has signed with the Longhorns. Siani spent 2025 at Wake Forest after two years at Temple. He spent 858 snaps at the left tackle position with Demon Deacons in 2025. This past season, Siani posted an 80.7 pass protection grade according to PFF and did not allow a sack the entire season. Siani is listed at 6-foot-6 and 302 pounds. In his career, he has 1577 snaps at the D1 level as well. Siani becomes the third offensive lineman signed by the Longhorns during the portal window, joining Jonte Newman from Texas A&M and Dylan Sikorski from Oregon State. …
