Initial thoughts: - The RB room is completely revamped. The familiar faces of Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter are gone. The additions of Hollywood Smothers, Raleek Brown and Derrek Cooper are evident, each bringing a slightly different skill set than the other. It's an increase in overall speed and general explosiveness. There is no doubt in my mind that the difference between this year and last year is night and day. And now the Longhorns will attempt to do the same in the 2027 cycle. Marcus Spears Jr. is not only the top ranked prospect in the Lone Star State, but also nationally. We live in a world gone mad. I can’t keep up with all the shenanigans going on in college sports. - There’s a rule proposal on the table that a college head coach would essentially be suspended for six games in a season if he takes a transfer player outside of the official transfer portal. The idea here is to stop coaches from circumventing transfer portal rules. Something has to be done. So maybe this is a workable solution. But the mere fact that it’s come to this to possibly get programs and coaches to adhere to the rules (or the expectations of the rules) gives you an idea of just how messed up the system is. There was also a meeting of A4 conference stakeholders Tuesday in Dallas who were listening to a pitch from private equity.
