The Horns started slow. Too slow. Then things turned really ugly… for the Sooners. Almost every Texas football season I remember can be summed up into two parts. What happens before OU. And what happens after. That’s what this game so often means. The No. 1 defensive tackle in the country, Justus Terry, will be visiting Texas for the Georgia game on October 19 he tells OTF. The Manchester, Georgia star had committed to USC in March, though decommitted towards the end of June. Well, the SEC injury report for the Longhorns certainly was surprising. Texas punter Michael Kern, a freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was listed as questionable. Kern appeared to tweak his groin against Mississippi State but Texas never punted again in the contest so his health flew under the radar. So the starting Texas punter, as well as the starting deep snapper, Tate Haver, are now listed as questionable. Texas is expected to turn to Ian Ratliff, a sophomore walk-on from Atascocita, at punter. Kern beat out Ratliff in the competition for the job during fall camp. It is a huge week for Texas and more importantly Steve Sarkisian. Coming into the Red River Shootout as the No. 1 team in the land has been a rarity for the Texas Longhorns in the series history — though they will be adding a tally to that count on Saturday. Tashard Choice visited a top RB target Friday Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice made a key stop in the Atlanta area Friday. Choice made his way to Sandy Creek High in Tyrone, Ga. to see 2026 4-star Amari Latimer. Latimer, 6-0 and 200 pounds, sports 25 offers to date including Texas. Choice offered the Peach State star January 25, 2024. Since that time, Latimer has been on campus, and spent time with the entire offensive staff.
