What I've learned from Thursday's practice... - It's very early, but Billy Walton has looked very active, very smart and could be one of the guys from the class of 2023 ready to take the next step, according to sources. Not the name many of you probably expected to hear first, but he's closer to playing significantly than some may expect. - Jaray Bledsoe was described as perhaps the most athletic player in the entire program, despite being a defensive tackle. The team has yet to start hitting, but Bledsoe has quietly been taking the right steps behind the scenes for a while now. As someone told me, Bledsoe "has a level of maturity we're starting to see more of".…

A couple of recruiting updates as we near the weekend. *** Texas will be hosting the California Power 7v7 football team this afternoon for an unofficial with the roster before they head to Houston for their tournament this weekend. One name to make note of is 2026 Mission Viejo WR Vance Spafford who will be joining the crew on the trip. Spafford holds three offers – Cal, San Diego State and Washington. The 5-foot-11 wide receiver from the west coast could be one to watch. Spafford hauled in 1576 yards and 22 touchdowns as a sophomore last fall. *** Kyle Flood and Pete Kwiatkowski extended an offer to 2026 Princeton (NJ) EDGE Luke Wafle Monday aft…

“Being a kid from the Dallas area…that’s all people talk about…mainly is Texas. So growing up I liked Texas.” ”I got to watch the longhorns and the sooners play. Growing up that’s all everybody talked about. So what I like about them is…how balanced their offense is. You saw Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell, they moved around to different spots on the field. They never put them in the same spot in the same position and they all were in sync with each other’s play styles.” Texas is in a solid position but you can tell nothing is decided. I really think he would be a great addition to the class though. He also discussed schools such as A&M (His Grandmother …

Survive and advance: Texas onto the Round of 32 The Texas Longhorns beat the Colorado State Rams 56-44 Thursday night to advance to the Round of 32. Before getting to the good and bad of tonight's game, this win has real meaning for the Texas program. With the win tonight, Texas has won a Round of 64 NCAA Tournament game for the third straight season. The last time that happened was the a stretch from the 2006-07 season to the 2008-09 season under Rick Barnes. Texas won a first round game four straight years from 2005-06 through the 2008-09 season, including a pair of Elite Eight appearances. That alone makes the win tonight a big one for the Texas p…

Louisiana 2025 DL sets visit to Texas The Texas Longhorns are set for a huge visit weekend April 6 around a spring practice. That weekend will include many top targets and over 20 combined 4-star and 5-star prospects. But there will also be a few prospects on the radar yet to be offered. One of those is defensive lineman Joshua Lewis (Geismar, La./Dutchtown) out of the Pelican State. Lewis, 6-4.5 and 246 pounds, told OnTexasFootball Thursday night he will be in Austin April 6 after being invited by the Texas staff. The Dutchtown High standout is one of the fastest rising prospects in Louisiana in the 2025 cycle. He's gone from three offers prior to t…

Four-star OT Lamont Rogers locks in Texas official visit The Texas Longhorns are up to nine offensive line official visitors in June. That number has increased by one with the news today that Lamont Rogers (Mesquite, Texas/Horn) has locked in an official visit. Rogers, 6-7 and 300 pounds, is scheduled to make an official visit to Texas June 14-16 OnTexasFootball learned Wednesday. Texas will be the third official visit for the OnTexasFootball 4-star. He will make his first official visit May 31-June 2 to Missouri, and will be at Texas A&M the following weekend (June 7-9). Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma are also under serious consideration. Kyle Flood…

Rod mentioned on the latest show that if Sark doesn't think Helm is a difference maker that he won't scheme him. And you'll see it I. The first few games. This made me think, once a defensive coordinator sees that, wouldn't he then scheme accordingly? Like rotate a weaker defender over to Helm knowing he's not a threat. It kind of reminds me of when ou would put in Blake Bell, I would scream that it's an obvious run and was utterly confused why Texas didn't sell out on the line knowing it was a 99% chance it was a run. Any help in understanding the thought processes of the defense would be appreciated.

Quinn Ewers looked like a potential 1-1 pick today. ** The Texas practice bubble was littered with NFL scouts this afternoon. And I overheard two of them from different teams talking about Quinn at the end of the throwing session. One scout said of Ewers, "he threw one bad pass the whole workout." And the scout said that in an admiring and surprising tone - he's probably seen some stinker performances in his day. The other scout's response was just two words: "Natural thrower." Quinn looked THAT good, that smooth, that in command and that confident. For me, and as someone who has seen Quinn throw numerous times, it was Quinn's confidence that…

Here are the freshmen that truly caught my eye yesterday. Couple of things before I get to the list: First, I did not pick a certain number of players here. I didn't say only the top 5 or top 10. That's not an honest assessment of who caught my eye. These are truly the ones that got my attention. Second, if a player didn't make this list, it's not an indictment on them. Far from it. I just didn't see enough of them athletically that really caught my eye on day one. For example, Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson both looked good physically, but I didn't see them do anything other than "look good" to really single either of them out. The List WR Ry…

There could easily be the possibility that Texas has too much talent at wide receiver, and if you're Silas Bolden would you start having serious second thoughts about not coming to Texas? He's going to be so far behind the other receivers and the talent of these young guys will make it hard to keep them off the field.

I have just confirmed that Huntington Beach, Calif. 2027 QB Brady Edmunds is visiting today. Edmunds just told me moments ago that he's already on campus and is taking in practice and checking everything out. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound signal caller already holds five offers from Arizona State, Virginia Tech, UConn, UNLV and Miami (OH). As a freshman, Edmunds passed for 2,691 yards (school record) and 24 TDs, while rushing for two more. 10:20 AM UPDATE: Edmunds just told me he will be staying all day today and half a day tomorrow. Somebody has to have the picture that showed the running back room sitting together on the bench from a couple of years ago. Bijan, Roschon, Brooks, Blue, and K-rob. just look at the talent of that room and the talent of the RB room this year. Texas could have as many as 8 RBs in the NFL at one time in the near future.
