Texas will host former Arizona State 2B Ethan Mendoza for a visit Saturday. Mendoza spent his high school days at Southlake Carroll before heading out west to Arizona State for his freshman season. He has visited Oklahoma on Monday and then made the trip over to Arkansas the following day. In 2024, Mendoza started 49 games at 2nd base where he slashed .315/.367/.443 ... in other words he had a .910 OPS. With Dee Kennedy departing for the portal and eventually Kansas State, Texas has a vacancy at the 2nd base spot and Mendoza would be a nice addition if the visit goes well.

Indications are that they don’t feel a need to at this point. They don’t feel they have to match the Big 10s 18, and are comfortable with 16. If they expand further it would likely be triggered by an implosion of the ACC, which many feel is coming. Who would the SEC desire? Certainly North Carolina who would be a perfect SEC fit. Clemson, FSU and Virginia would also be candidates.

Everyone on this board needs to relax with the recent DTs we have missed on. Sark and company have always played the long game. Let’s recruit through the whistle and watch we will flip some of these DTs. This is the same version of when banks and Williams both flipped from Oregon. In Sark I trust!!! happy 4th and Hook’em

IMO I look at the new world of recruiting in two ways. The first is what is the best option for players in the portal, which means position wise. Second, what is must have in recruiting for high school players. Best gets in the portal WR DB TE LB QB RB Toughest gets in the portal DL Edge OT Easier gets in high school recruiting WR top 100 OL top 150 TE top 150 LB top 100 QB top 100 RB top 100 DB at least one top CB and safety Toughest gets for high school recruiting DL Edge DB more than 2 each position This is for Texas. As I look at my list…

I don't think so. I was thinking about Jeff Leiding today. Number 60 you know. I knew that he had passed a while ago and and "googled" him. I was led to a piece that Bill wrote after Jeff's death. It was joy mixed with sadness as I marveled at Bill's prose while also being filled with melancholy over an old hero that died too young. I will miss them both. I wish that there had been someone who could have written an epitaph for Bill like the one that Bill wrote for Jeff. But then, there was only one Bill Little.

Texas Baseball has added another member to its 2025 recruiting class. Grady Westphal, a right handed pitcher from Stilwell, Kansas, becomes the latest to flip his commitment from Texas A&M to the Texas Longhorns since the hiring of Jim Schlossnagle. Westphal is clocked between 90–93 mph on his fastball and adds a low 80’s slider with plus spin.

Add another one to the list for Texas baseball, as the Longhorns have grabbed a commitment from Thomas Burns of Arizona State. The freshman right handed pitcher dealt 39 strikeouts in just 30.1 innings of play, holding his opponents to a .213 average at the plate. He finished the year with a 4.75 ERA.

That will rejuvenate him for one more run with a contender. Really good offensive piece that can shoot it ... his threat is real even if not as lethal after the injuries
