We did not have a "ready" backup plan in place after our initial Michigan OL duo transfer plan failed. But it worked out well for Texas with 9-4 Wake Forest's transfer LT/RT 6-6 #317 Melvin Siani. LT Siani dominated in their 43-29 bowl game win over MSST. For the season, Siani had stellar pass blocking stats, 487 pass-blocking snaps with 0 sacks allowed and only 9 pressures allowed (6 hurries and 3 quarterback hits). Elite 80.8 PFF pass blocking grade and good 72.8 overall PFF offensive grade for 2025 season vs ACC competition, Oregon St and MSST. Siani will again play RT (2024 RT) but for Texas. Great portal transfer win for Texas. Texas WKY transfer 6-2 #316 Seymore did not get the benefit of a spring at Texas and is a bit more questionable. Many talk about his good PFF pass blocking grades vs LSU. Some context....WKY had only 22 rushing yds vs LSU. WKY had only 130 passing yds on 41 attempts for 3.2 yds per pass attempt. WKY offense had 152 total yds, 2.3 yds per play. 4/15 on 3rd down and 0/3 on 4th down. WKY lost 10-13. Western Kentucky's Air Raid variation relies heavily on up tempo, quick-hitting passes and schematic relief to avoid pass rush, which can artificially boost an offensive lineman’s individual pass-block win rate. When a quarterback consistently releases the ball in under 2 to 2.5 seconds, even an elite pass rusher may not have physical time to beat a block and record a pressure. Outside of their matchup with LSU and bowl game vs S Miss, WKU’s 2025 schedule consisted almost entirely of bottom-tier or average Group of Five and FCS opponents. They played subpar defenses like North Alabama (FCS), Missouri State (FCS), FIU, New Mexico State, and Middle Tennessee. Most of these programs feature interior defensive linemen who average under 290 pounds and lack NFL-caliber twitch or power move sets. Dominating pass-blocking metrics against Conference USA does not accurately project how a lineman handles 320-pound SEC defensive tackles who can execute advanced stunt-and-twist games. Seymore had average run blocking grades for the season. Regardless, Seymore's high pass blocking grades are encouraging. He can anchor well when he locks on, you saw that in his LSU video. Seymore sets a floor as a pass protector that is better than TX LGs last September. But how will Seymore do if he needs to protect longer vs better competition? If Seymore starts.....Seymore will have his first real test vs Ohio St - Sr Bama transfer disruptor 6-2 #314 DT James Smith, former UA All American rJr transfer 6-3 #303 DT John Walker, and former 5 star 6-3 #292 DT Eddrick Houston. If Seymore does struggle vs this trio, he will likely struggle vs several more SEC teams. But if he doesn't struggle....

Yes, Texas definitely honed in on Michigan's Andrew Sprague and Jake Guarnera. But just before it was a done deal, new HC Whittingham came into the picture as a stabilizing force to help keep the duo at Michigan, forcing the Longhorns to look elsewhere.

Fantastic Texas roster/depth chart that is talented, healthy (🤞) and deep! The established starter is absolutely set at many positions. However, a few positions look much more competitive and somewhat undecided. All I ask for is real competition at any undecided positions. Texas should start or give the most snaps to the players that give us the best chance to win. I hope we start the dogs that play the best and earn it in the Texas heat of fall camp. In some competitions, it may be a heavy situational and merit based rotation to stay fresh and healthy once the season starts. Expect we further refine our depth chart and rotations as the season progresses. This team has a rare and special opportunity. TEXAS FIGHT! 🏈 🤘

I realize Choate's time frame. My bad, I was not as clear as I could have been. But I never said Choate was there in 2024, just that our LB play suffered without Choate. Choate and PK had a history and understanding which allowed them to work together better than PK and Nansen. Yes the offense was the main problem in 2010. Call the 2010 D what you will but.... Yes there was a defensive drop-off from 2009 to 2010 and it was not just the offense. 2.2 yds per rush allowed in 2009 vs 3.5 yds per rush allowed in 2010 3.8 yds per play allowed in 2009 vs 4.6 yds per play allowed in 2009 16.7 ppg allowed (12th in FBS) 2009 vs 23.7 ppg allowed (49th in FBS) 2010. Texas lost 4 2009 defensive starters (36% of starters lost to the NFL). 2010 NFL draft: IDL/Edge/LB Lamaar Houston, DE/Edge/LB Sergio Kindle, Safety Earl Thomas and MLB Rod Muckelroy Texas talent drop-off with 2010 starters and contributors- DT Tyrell Higgins, Edge/LB Dravanti Johnson, MLB Dustin Earnest, Safety Christian Scott. (19 starts and 47 games played). These 4 were not drafted or NFL players. We had better defensive talent in 2009 than 2010.

2025 Texas OL lacked power, cohesion and mentality. Goosby gained 13 lbs, Siani 15 lbs, Baker 7 lbs, Robertson 4 lbs, Seymore 1 lb. Seems like good weight gained by the tackles and Baker. Guessing Robertson and Seymore gained muscle and lost body fat. Believe we will see more power and physicality after a productive off-season. Goosby's shoulder is also healthy. If we can be more cohesive as Goosby also said, we could be in for a very welcomed improvement in effective physicality. Hopefully reduce OL presnap penalties.

Huge 2024 Texas defensive fan. Our secondary was not the same in 2025 after Gideon and TJ left. Our LB play suffered without Choate imo. PK and Nansen did not seem to mesh. PK has needed the right combo of coaches to succeed at the highest level imo. I am a PK fan but it had run its course due to fit, style and limitations. Sark is hungry and he believes a rejuvenated Will can work from the top down to control the defensive operations and improve the defense play. The style suits Sark more so than bend but don't break. Bobby would know, seems likely Vandy 4th Q disfunction was an issue that led to a more serious look at making a change. Will improved our D in 2008 and transformed us into an elite defensive unit in 2009. 2010 D was a dropoff due in part to the draft. We did not have the needed talent in 2010 on defense. Evals were off with a few 2010 defenders. There was no portal back then to fill in the defensive gaps like now.

Kohen Brown's best long term position may be free safety.

Texas helped Sales get his NIL bump. Hopefully in the end LSU is just helping Royal get his Texas NIL bump.

CBS gave a valid singular reason to exclude us from their top tier, our tough schedule. Non-conference #2 seed Ohio St loss was part of a 3 loss season. Had we lost 2 games instead of 3, Texas would have been a lock for the CFP. I again see highly ranked Ohio St on our schedule plus 9 SEC games. In 2026, Texas is playing 4 teams that made the 2025 CFP (seeds 2, 6, 7, 8). In addition to 4 CFP teams, Texas plays an a pesky MSST that took us to overtime, Florida that beat us, at MO, at TN and at LSU. I personally believe a 9-3 record against our really tough schedule could very well mean we are CFP worthy. But I don't want to be on the bubble needing a CFP vote. Texas must set the CFP bar at 10-2 or better and you are in. Anything worse could prevent a CFP appearance.
