On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Welcome to On Texas Football (or in this instance, OnTexasFootball.com)! We hope you'll become part of the conversation on your favorite team - The Texas Longhorns. As we begin a new era, we have a few rules, rules that we hope allow us all to enjoy the site and enjoy the team we root for. Please follow these: 1. No in-fighting among members. Sure, grown men can disagree. But grown men (or women) don't call each other names. 2. This site and discussion is about the Texas Longhorns. It's not about how one of us is any smarter or dumber than the other, about how one site or other is better than another, etc. 3. Keep in mind that sarcasm is ofte…

  2. Major Preston Jr., safety from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was offered by Texas earlier today. Preston was one of IMG's starting safeties last year. Texas signee Jordon Johnson-Rubell was the other. View full news

  3. Let’s cap off the month of January with some Coffee and Football this morning! At 8 AM CST, join me, along with Bobby Burton and CJ Vogel as we discuss the latest happenings in Longhorns news, including recruiting, the portal, the team and much more. I would like to give a big thank you to Adam Lowey and the Loewy Law Firm for sponsoring today's show! View full news

  4. I am very excited to get to know most of the new faces on the board as we progress into the offseason. For those who are new to following my coverage of Texas Football, just know there are times where I get stuck in random rabbit holes looking for obscure facts and tidbits across both team coverage and the recruiting world. And for you all on this beautiful Tuesday afternoon, I have ventured back into a rabbit hole of recruiting. We have talked about the national approach we have seen Texas take in year's past, especially with the current staff. It will continue to be a focal point of the recruiting approach. Last July, I went through the offers extended by…

  5. Barring something major - like the immediate unexpected exodus of a couple of linemen from Michigan - Texas is officially done with portal recruiting for the spring semester. In review, the Horns grabbed eight players who expect to contribute immediately, six of them heavily. Meanwhile, the Horns lost 15 players to the portal, of which I'd say four or five would have been contributors of some level. Perhaps one departure really, really hurt - Trill Carter (Auburn). Carter would have been immediate, helpful depth at a position of need. The others of note: safety Jerrin Thompson (Auburn), safety Kitan Crawford (Nevada), receiver Isaiah Neyor (Nebraksa) and qu…

Rodney Terry's basketball team fought hard last night. But they came up on the short end of the stick in overtime, losing to No. 3 Houston 76-72. The Horns are showing signs of being a better team. The increased minutes of Chendall Weaver, the transfer from UT-Arlington, gives the team a little defensive spark without giving up too much on the offensive end of the floor. Is it enough to turn the season around? With back-to-back losses to ranked teams after beating ranked teams back-to-back a week ago, the early results are now mixed. What lineup works best for Texas basketball? I'm not sure anyone knows the answer. ** We could see some movement in…

  7. Senior Defensive End - Reece Atteberry https://x.com/PeteNakos_/status/1752431750746104272?s=20

  8. New Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker is officially on the recruiting trail. Baker was originally expected to be in Mobile, Alabama for the Reese's Senior Bowl week of practices. However, the call was made and Baker is hitting the schools in the state of Texas with 2025 defensive line targets. A stop with 2025 Cy Fair DL Landon Rink was in store for Tuesday afternoon. 9. AUSTIN, Texas — Kenny Baker, a member of the Miami Dolphins coaching staff in 2023, is joining the Texas Football staff as defensive line coach, Steve Sarkisian announced on Tuesday. He joins the Longhorns' staff with experience coaching at the high school, college and professional levels. Prior to the Dolphins, Baker spent 11 of his 15 years in coaching at the collegiate level. "Kenny came highly recommended from people in the industry I really respect, and I had a great time talking with him during the interview process. He'll be an awesome addition to our staff," said Sarkisian. "He brings a ton of energy, experience, and passion for the job, and I know our player…

  10. I was chatting with an Army buddy from Ohio and we were talking about talent acquisition. He said the UT roster was comparative to the tOSU teams of 2013-2016. If you look at the skill positions on offense and the linebacker, DEs and secondary I can kind of see the resemblance. What do you guys think? 🫡🤘

CJ and I talk about the Michigan possibilities and the elite players Texas seems to be prioritizing. https://youtu.be/Rt1q4nLkyXY

  12. Texas RB coach Tashard Choice continues his tour of the deep south with a stop in Quitman, MS this morning to see 2025 RB Akylin Dear. Dear received an offer from the Longhorns earlier this month on January 8th and now, Choice is doubling up with a stop at his high school to get some face time. Dear is an elite running back prospect. Tremendous film to back it up as well. Texas has approached the RB spot from a national perspective in previous cycles and 2025 already has Mater Dei RB Jordon Davison as a top prospect as well. Add Dear to that list. Take a look at the film: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/15267528/65265bf40427fe0af4358bd7 View f…

  13. I will start off by saying this. I do not think Rodney Terry is a top 10 coach in college basketball. I just don’t think he’s in the elite tier of college coaches. However, he has proven to be a good coach and here’s why. He coached Texas to an Elite 8 after taking over during the season. Last years team had a ton of really good college players but no future NBA prospects, besides Dillon Mitchell whose star has faded over time (also Dylan Disu may be a pro but he needs to stay healthy and is borderline at best right now). The best teams year over year are led by players who end up in the league, even if they didn’t have the star ratings coming into college. In a…

  14. A safety name to be aware of for the 2025 class is Kilgore's Jayden Sanders. Sanders was a recent visitor on campus for the Texas Junior Day and is a prime candidate to see his stock soar this spring. I spoke with Sanders a bit yesterday to get his interest in the Longhorns. Though the Longhorns have yet to offer, Sanders mentioned that the staff made it known that they view him highly as a prospect and are continuing to evaluate. Texas is evaluating Sanders at both a safety or cornerback at the next level, to get an idea of where he would fit best. With a two-sport background in basketball, his 6-foot-2 frame allows for versatility across the backend of t…

  15. Might see some movement of Michigan players.

  16. Michigan message boards are apoplectic right now. The loss this morning of their S&C coach over money/length of term seems to have lit a fire. Three days ago, it didn’t look like the Wolverines were going to lose anyone of substance to the portal. Now after losing their HC, DC, S&C and perhaps more, Michigan could be in a real precarious position. I don’t know what it will mean or not mean to Texas, but this is a crazy turn of events.

  17. Join me, Bobby Burton and CJ Vogel this morning at 8 AM as we take your questions, talk some Longhorn football, recruiting and much more!

  18. On Texas Football Forum · Started by Bobby Burton,

Kenneth Grant of Michigan. - Defensive Tackle - 6-foot-3, 339 pounds (according to Michigan website) - Will be a true junior from Merrillville, Ind. For those unfamiliar with the town, Merrillville is about a half hour from the Illinois state line just south of Gary and next to Hammond. - 29 tackles with 3.5 sacks and 1 INT in 2023. - Awarded 2nd team all-conference from Big 10 coaches. - 2023 was first year as a starter. - Played in 12 games as a true freshman. - As of the time I am typing this, Grant has not entered the NCAA transfer portal. - Is this the type of elite DL the Horns are looking for? Absolutely.

  19. Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson extended an offer to five-star 2025 wide receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr. Monday evening. The 6-foot-1 playmaker out of Jacksonville, FL was previously committed to Alabama before re-opening his recruitment on January 14th. On the Texas perspective, Ffrench told me right after his offer he is very much looking forward to getting to Austin at some point soon. The earlier the better as many programs have already begun prioritizing him already. In the past week, Ffrench has been visited by South Carolina's Shane Beamer and WR coach Justin Stepp, Florida HC Billy Napier and Georgia's Kirby Smart. Hudl: https://www.hudl.com…

  20. For the 2023 season, the Longhorns ended up with 32 sacks, which was a six-sack improvement from the year before. However, they now are losing three defensive linemen, including arguably two of the best players on defense in T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy II, along with two linebackers. So just how much sack production will be lost as the Horns move forward to the 2024 season? In short: Not much. In somewhat of a surprising result, Texas returns over 65% of that sack production, including three of their top four defenders who recorded the most sacks. Let's also not forger that, due to the transfer portal and recruiting, the Longhorns have added piece…

  21. A trio of Texas coaches were on campus in Calhoun, GA to see 2025 TE commit Emaree Winston. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, Jeff Banks and Tashard Choice were on the trail to stop by the Texas commits. Of course, the trio then flew out to Florida to see Brandon Brown. Winston tells me the visit with the staff very well. As for an upcoming visit? Winston said he hopes to be back in Austin for the Spring Game. You can expect to see that visit list become rather lengthy, with Winston starting off the list of visitors. View full news
