Starts with 30 teams in stroke play, narrows to 15 teams after 54 holes, then top 8 teams after 72 holes. 3. The NCAA and its five power conferences have agreed to allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the 100-plus-year history of college sports. The NCAA and its leagues are planning to alert plaintiffs' attorneys Thursday that they are prepared to move forward with a multibillion-dollar agreement to settle three pending federal antitrust cases, sources told ESPN. The NCAA will pay more than $2.7 billion in damages over 10 years to past and current athletes, according to sources. Sources said the parties also have agreed to a revenue-sharing plan allowing each school to share up to roughly $20 million per year with its athletes. All Division I ath…

  4. Texas continues to up its game in the NIL space. As many know, the Texas One Fund, the NIL collective of choice for the Longhorns, raised millions of dollars over the weekend via a two-day charity event, including a golf scramble on Friday morning and concert and silent auction Saturday evening. Well, the group isn't stopping there. Later today, Texas One Fund will announce another corporate partnership in addition to ones with Benchmark Bank, Covert Auto Group, Ticket City, Brown Distributing and the Oak View Group. We caught up with Patrick "Wheels" Smith, president of the One Fund, over the weekend for an interview. Make sure you check that out either on…

  6. After hearing about these anonymous responses, I'm inclined to wonder just who might have said this and what their motivations might be. Here are my guesses: 1. Oklahoma - they stand the most to gain by spreading the seed of doubt amidst our recent success. 2. TCU - they are one of the few teams who made it interesting down the stretch. Plus, any dent they could make in recruiting might help them. 3. Kansas St. - they also made things interesting down to the wire. Regardless of what they may or may not have said, any impact on recruiting is not gonna happen. Everybody else got their tails kicked by us by a large margin. Makes sense to me but wha…

  14. Jaden Rashada was a Top 50 recruit, # 6 QB in the 2023 class that featured Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, Dante Moore and Jackson Arnold. He had a reported $9.5 million deal to go to Miami but Florida kept pushing and, desperate for a difference maker at QB, offered him a four year deal totaling $13.85 million, which he accepted and signed (The Athletic has a copy of the contract). But the Gator backers couldn't come up with the money (and Rashada didn't have an earth shaking senior year of HS), so they didn't pay and tried to renegotiate last second at (allegedly) less than 50 cents on the dollar. Rashada bailed on Florida and ended up near me at Arizona State …

  22. One in three high-profile athletes receive abusive messages from individuals with a "betting interest," and more than 540 men's and women's college basketball players received similar abuse, including death threats, during championship tournaments in March, the NCAA said in a release on Friday. The NCAA looked at athletes participating in sports that attract the most betting interest -- football and basketball, among others -- and found that online abuse is widespread. Signify, an artificial intelligence company and NCAA partner, covered 1,000 Division I men's and women's college basketball players, 64 teams, more than 200 coaches and 120 NCAA game officials during M…
