This is how programs like Texas Tech, USC and A&M (and doubtless others, but those programs seem to be at the forefront) are reeling in top talent. Story on ESPN about how Texas Tech built arguably the best DL in college football for a measly $7 million. I know Texas was after at least two of these cats in the portal last year, Bailey and Hunter. I'll quote a bit on how they convinced David Bailey to transfer from Stanford to Tech for around $3 million. (quote) LUBBOCK, Texas -- I have the deal of a lifetime for you. Give me a call, bro. Minutes after David Bailey entered the transfer portal March 28, Texas Tech general manager James Blancha…

Rod Babers and I just finished recording a look ahead to the game in Athens on the 15th that will air on Saturday. During my research for the video, I came across some numbers on the Georgia defense I never would have expected to see... *** – Georgia ranks 132nd out of 136 teams with 8.0 sacks this season. – Additionally, Georgia ranks 135th out of 136 teams with 29.0 tackles for loss. Of those 8.0 sacks, 3.0 come from LB CJ Allen, their starting middle linebacker. And another 3.0 come from LB Chris Cole who sees about 1/3 of his snaps off the edge. *** Now, Georgia still has a top 25 scoring defense, sitting at 19.6 points per ga…

What shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle of Texas coming uncomfortably close to squandering a 24-point lead in last Saturday’s 34-31 win over Vanderbilt is the way the Longhorns put the Commodores in a four-score hole through three quarters. Texas (7-2, 4-1 SEC) won the line of scrimmage battle in a landslide, something it hasn’t done consistently in 2025. Steve Sarkisian might’ve said it best during his weekly news conference on Monday when he pointed out how the Longhorns minimized Vanderbilt’s strength “and made it a strength of ours.” The remarkable effort by Clark Lea’s organization to turn a perennial SEC doormat into a contender for a berth in the College F…

In the age of NIL, I'm curious what happens if a recruit has committed to a school but then has a disastrous senior year of high school. Would the offer/commitment have to be honored, or can an offer be rescinded?

What a horrible and tragic story. CTE and mental health are real issues and i hope these athletes are prioritizing their mental health over everything.

I've got a question for Gerry. I was listening to the State of the Program this afternoon and the discussion dealt with what Texas might need in the portal. My question is specific to the offensive line. Gerry has repeatedly said that there are no longer any excuses for being young and inexperienced. He's mainly said this regarding basketball, but I assume that this can also be applied to football. In today's discussion he took the stance that Texas should continue to build the offensive line through high school recruits because they take much longer to develop, but offer more stability to the program. This looks to be problematic for this year's team for whatever r…

How do you all think the class will finish after the Berrymon opening it up? For me: Lott Martinez (he is OVing and seems likely) Carlton Anderson DB to be named I could also see a combo of Henderson / Guervill instead of Carlton / Anderson

I know we’re a long way from this scenario with much left to prove. If Texas was to win out, what would the scenario be to get us into the championship game assuming Alabama and Ole Miss win out, which is very possible since they have a fairly easy rest of the year.

Great video from Chase breaking down Arch’s game against Vandy. Chase was great on the call of one of our earlier games this season. https://youtu.be/rpnWGDJ_b_s?si=F6Hmzrxz1SbsyZc1

I remember a day or two ago the guys making a comment about the staff potentially circling back on a LB that had previously OV’d but they never pushed for when he made his initial decision. Could this be who they were talking about?

Of course, Texas controls its own destiny and a 10-2 season would lock them in to the CFP. However, if they end up 9-3 they’ll need some help. What games are most important this week? I’m watching Tech vs BYU and Georgia vs Miss St.

...the NCAA allows 15 scholarship players per team. I wonder why Coach Vic didn't fill those last two slots? Sark makes sure ever schollie is filled in football. Not sure about the other sports. Surely, there are two good players out there who would be able to contribute. Rant over.

Points Per Drive leaders in the SEC Entering Week 11 *** For those that have been around OTF for a while or followed me elsewhere, you will know that points per drive is a key factor in my evaluation of teams. Entering week 11, here is a visual of where the teams in the conference stand at the moment. You want to be in the upper right quadrant. A few takeaways: – Vanderbilt still has the most efficient offense in the country, averaging 3.74 points per possession. – Teams ranked 3-6 in the College Football Playoff are very similar to one another. You see A&M, Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss basically in the same spot on the graph here…
