Wednesday afternoon recruiting notes Here are a few notes from the recruiting trail. 5-star Lamar Brown ... The 5-star DL out of Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab has been talking with Steve Sarkisian, LaAllen Clark and Kenny Baker weekly for the last 5-6 weeks. Obviously, that is giving Texas the feeling they can position themselves with a successful weekend to be right there battling Texas A&M, LSU and Miami. Texas A&M has been recruiting the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder as a defensive lineman the longest. There will be a few that cancel or are cancelled, and likely a few added. Palestine (Texas) Westwood two-sport star Kavian Bryant is scheduled to compete for a Texas offer later this week. If you missed the softball game last night, you missed an absolute classic. It was the ultimate pitcher’s duel. Texas Tech pushed across a single run in the 5th aided by a ridiculous obstruction call. But that set the stage for a two-out rally for the Horns in the bottom of the sixth. Another OV this weekend locked in OnTexasFootball has learned that Petal (Miss.) High defensive lineman Corey Wells is scheduled to make an official visit to Texas this weekend. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder made an OV to Ole Miss last weekend, and has June visits to Auburn and Mississippi State also on the docket. The Rebels are considered the favorite headed into the remainder of the official visits. Wells was on campus in Austin in the spring, and the returns on the visit were very positive as expected. Texas softball goes for the national championship tomorrow at 7pm against Texas Tech on ESPN. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 2-0 in the semifinal yesterday behind strong pitching performances from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan, a strong defense, and a big swing from Katie Stewart in the fourth inning. Tech held off an Oklahoma team 3-2 last night. The Sooners had tied it up in 7th on a two-out two-run homer before the Red Raiders walked it off later. It’s hard to believe that this season has come to an end. Texas kicked off summer conditioning this morning, the start of the next phase of the offseason in Austin, Texas. For those wondering, S Jonah Williams will be eased into workouts over the next week as the baseball season concluded, there is a plan to give him some time to catch his breath before being thrust right back into preparation for the 2026 football season. One nugget for next spring I can share is the plan is for Williams to lift with the football teams multiple times each week despite being in the middle of the baseball season. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the quiet part out loud yesterday afternoon. The SEC and the general quality of its teams, thereby the strengths of its schedules, are different than every other conference. He even provided media a 7-page document explaining exactly why. Only two of the conferences 16 schools have averaged being outside of the top 50 teams in college football over the past 10 years. Most of the national college football news made yesterday did not originate from the SEC meetings. Rather, it came from reactions to the SEC meetings by the brass at the Big 12 and Big 10. The Big 12 announced it is in favor of a 5-11 CFP format. That means just five conference champions would receive automatic bids to a 16-team college football playoff. That means there will be a surprise commitment or three in the next days, and some recruitments that begin to shift.
