  1. Wednesday afternoon recruiting notes Here are a few notes from the recruiting trail. 5-star Lamar Brown ... The 5-star DL out of Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab has been talking with Steve Sarkisian, LaAllen Clark and Kenny Baker weekly for the last 5-6 weeks. Obviously, that is giving Texas the feeling they can position themselves with a successful weekend to be right there battling Texas A&M, LSU and Miami. Texas A&M has been recruiting the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder as a defensive lineman the longest. Both LSU and Texas began recruiting Brown as an OL, but changed to DL as Brown began to lock in on wanting to play DL. Kyle Flood went to Brown's …

  2. Wednesday Recruiting Notes: OV changes; three 2027's that impressed the staff Sunday The Texas Longhorns are shuffling some June OV's, as OTF has been saying would likely happen. There will be a few that cancel or are cancelled, and likely a few added. OnTexasFootball broke the news Tuesday night that 4-star defensive lineman Corey Wells (Petal, miss./High is scheduled to make an OV to Texas this weekend. It will be his second visit to Texas. Ole Miss is considered the favorite over Texas, Auburn and Mississippi State. Tennessee and FSU have also been in pursuit. Texas is not expected to bring in offensive tackle Aaron Thomas (Phoenix, Az./Mountain Pointe…

  3. 4-star QB to throw for Texas Thursday at Elite Camp Steve Sarkisian and A.J. Milwee will watch one of the top 2027 quarterback prospects throw in person Thursday at Elite Camp. Palestine (Texas) Westwood two-sport star Kavian Bryant is scheduled to compete for a Texas offer later this week. OnTexasFootball spoke with a source very close to the 6-foot-2.5, 185-pounder this morning, and Bryant turned down the same invite to LSU to throw in person at Texas. The source said a Texas offer is No. 1 on Bryant's list of wants in recruiting right now. Bryant's most recent football offer was the Florida Gators May 21. His football offer list includes Texas A&a…

  4. Started by Bobby Burton,

If you missed the softball game last night, you missed an absolute classic. It was the ultimate pitcher’s duel. Texas Tech pushed across a single run in the 5th aided by a ridiculous obstruction call. But that set the stage for a two-out rally for the Horns in the bottom of the sixth. After getting two quick outs to start the sixth, Tech superstar pitcher NiJaree Canady first gave up a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases. With runners at second and third, the Tech coach called for Canady to intentionally walk Texas All-American catcher Reese Atwood. But on a 3-0 count, Atwood stroked a single through the left side of the infield bringing home two r…

  5. 2027 Argyle WR Julian Caldwell Calls Texas his "Dream School" For a while, the phrase above would send shutters down the spine of Longhorn fans who fanatically follow recruiting. It was like a kiss of death for highly anticipated recruitments that Texas was involved in. That sentiment has changed with the Longhorns' success on the field and developmental improvements which have produced 24 NFL Draft picks over the last two years. During the Texas Elite Camp on Sunday, that message was echoed to the top 2027 prospects on campus working for Texas offers and looking to establish relationships with the Texas staff. One of those prospects in particular was Argyl…

  6. Another OV this weekend locked in OnTexasFootball has learned that Petal (Miss.) High defensive lineman Corey Wells is scheduled to make an official visit to Texas this weekend. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder made an OV to Ole Miss last weekend, and has June visits to Auburn and Mississippi State also on the docket. The Rebels are considered the favorite headed into the remainder of the official visits. Wells was on campus in Austin in the spring, and the returns on the visit were very positive as expected. Wells was a hit this spring with college coaches. The May offers included Tennessee and Florida State. Running back (1) ... Ezavier …

Texas softball goes for the national championship tomorrow at 7pm against Texas Tech on ESPN. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 2-0 in the semifinal yesterday behind strong pitching performances from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan, a strong defense, and a big swing from Katie Stewart in the fourth inning. Tech held off an Oklahoma team 3-2 last night. The Sooners had tied it up in 7th on a two-out two-run homer before the Red Raiders walked it off later. Tech is led by the $1 million-dollar pitcher NiJaree Canady, a transfer from Stanford who chose the big bucks from Tech mega donor Cody Campbell. Canady is a bona fide superstar. The Horns will have to beat her…

  8. Top 2027 In-State Cornerback Says Longhorns are in His Top 3 One of the top prospects on campus on Sunday for the Elite Camp + Pool Bash was 2027 Euless Trinity CB John Meredith III. Despite not participating in the on-field camp setting, Meredith was singled out by a number of prospects Sunday as someone they were eager to hang around with while on their trips. The 6-foot-2-inch cornerback holds a 21.7 200M time from this spring and boasts an early ranking in the top five of national prospects according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He spoke with OnTexasFootball following his afternoon on campus to discuss his interest in the Longhorns and relations…

  9. It’s hard to believe that this season has come to an end. It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that Jeff ,CJ and I recorded our first ever episode of Bases Loaded and that we were all curious as to what the season would bring. “Hosting a regional” is what I said when we discussed the topic of what would be considered a successful season. “Going .500 in conference play” was Jeff’s answer just a few weeks later when I asked what would be considered a success for Texas’ first year in the SEC. Texas exceeded those .500 expectations, dropping only two series toward the end of the season. They won the conference title in the toughest baseball conference in t…

  10. Texas kicked off summer conditioning this morning, the start of the next phase of the offseason in Austin, Texas. For those wondering, S Jonah Williams will be eased into workouts over the next week as the baseball season concluded, there is a plan to give him some time to catch his breath before being thrust right back into preparation for the 2026 football season. One nugget for next spring I can share is the plan is for Williams to lift with the football teams multiple times each week despite being in the middle of the baseball season. But of course, that is basically eight months away at this point. When Williams does arrive for summer workouts, that will me…

  11. Texas AD Chris Del Conte met briefly with a small group of reporters here in the lobby of the Hilton Sandestin. Some notes: - Wants one football portal in January. Says that other sports could easily have a different portal window. For example, basketball needs to come in the spring after the season. - "I'm all in on more home games" as it relates to college football expansion. Cited his first-hand experience with the Clemson game last season as well as travel fatigue of fans after having to go to Atlanta twice and Dallas once more during the holiday season. - Feels like "strength of schedule metrics" need to play a greater role in college football pla…

  17. Started by Bobby Burton,

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the quiet part out loud yesterday afternoon. The SEC and the general quality of its teams, thereby the strengths of its schedules, are different than every other conference. He even provided media a 7-page document explaining exactly why. Only two of the conferences 16 schools have averaged being outside of the top 50 teams in college football over the past 10 years. Meanwhile, every other conference has at least twice as many, if not three times as many. What’s the net of all of it? While the Big 10 is trying to force the SEC into a 9-game conference schedule, I just don’t think it’s in the cards. The coaches simply don’t …

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

Most of the national college football news made yesterday did not originate from the SEC meetings. Rather, it came from reactions to the SEC meetings by the brass at the Big 12 and Big 10. The Big 12 announced it is in favor of a 5-11 CFP format. That means just five conference champions would receive automatic bids to a 16-team college football playoff. The Big 10, meanwhile, said they were not in favor of the 5-11 format unless the SEC adds a ninth conference game. What was SEC commissioner Greg Sankey’s response to all the hubbub? Essentially, he said we don’t tell other conferences what to do, so why should any one presume they can tell us. An…

  20. Best Class Scenario: May 29 edition The first big weekend of official visits around the country is almost here. That means there will be a surprise commitment or three in the next days, and some recruitments that begin to shift. In the case of the Longhorns, the pivotal month in the 2026 cycle begins June 6-8 with the first of three big weekends in a row. Texas currently sports eight commitments with a class that is on track to be a fifth straight top 5 level finish. OTF newest best class scenario includes 33 prospects, with the understanding that a mix of these 33 would very likely place Texas in the top 3 classes when all is said and done. QB (1)…

  25. It’s a topic that, in some way, shape or form, comes up every summer to pass the time between the end of spring practice and the start of preseason camp. Which legendary Longhorn, when added to the current roster, would best help Texas maximize the upcoming season? In any season, the easy answer would be to pick one of the six Longhorns who’ve had their jersey number retired by the school and call it a day. I didn’t do that when making a pick to improve Steve Sarkisian’s club in 2025. Still, an assist is rightfully credited to College Football Classics (@ClassicsCFB) on X, formerly known as Twitter, for recognizing what Cedric Benson did in a 44-14 win over Bayl…
