Texas 2025 football roster breakdown: By state The Texas Longhorns 2025 roster is very near completion, if not completed. There remains the possibility of adding another player or two out of the portal in the coming weeks. With the spring portal window closed, I thought it would be a good time to look at where the players come from on the roster by state where they graduated high school. This is always a good look at where Sarkisian and staff are targeting players from the most. As expected, the Deep South states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida make up 65 of the current 83 scholarship players. Or 78.3%. Add in Californ…

Happy Friday. A rather eventful first weekend of no spring ball. Finals are ongoing currently on the 40 Acres, signaling the end of another semester for students. For the team specifically, over the next few weeks, several players will head back home to hangout with family and friends where they grew up for a small "off" period before returning for summer conditioning at the end of the month. I always like looking at the flip to June as the real start of the upcoming season. Texas also announced (officially) the five spring transfers – Jack Endries, Mason Shipley, Lavon Johnosn, Maraad Watson and Emmett Mosley V. On top of that, Jordan and Devin Coleman and…

Updated Texas June Official Visitors List: By Position The Texas Longhorns up too to 45 scheduled official visitors with the list expected to grow to 50 in the next week or two. While there will be some additions such as 5-star RB Derrek Cooper (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna), 4-star++ DL James Johnson (Miami, Fla./Northwestern) and a few others added, the Longhorns already have a star-studded official visitors list for next month that is the envy of many college programs. OnTexasFootball breaks down the OV's by position to start your Friday. Quarterback (1) Dia Bell, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage #AllGasNoBrakes OnTexasFootball ranking…

Seven prospects OTF expects to lock in June OV's The Texas Longhorns have more than 40 June official visits locked in on the way to around 50 when all is said and done. This morning, OnTexasFootball looks at seven prospects we currently expect to lock in June OV dates in the next week or two. The seven ... Derrek Cooper, RB, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Cooper had a tremendous first visit last weekend, and cancelled his Penn State OV while on campus. That OV was scheduled for June 17-19. Sarkisian hasn't traditionally gone the mid-week OV route in June, but this could be a special circumstance level prospect. James Johnson, DL, Miami (Fla.) N…

The Texas state track meet starts today in Austin on the campus of the University of Texas. If you have never been and live anywhere remotely close to Austin, I encourage you to go, especially for one of the night sessions this weekend. Do it at least once in your life. The state track meet is one of those special events that stick with you. It’s similar to the old Texas state championships in basketball that were held at the Drum. Fans and athletes from across the state stream into Austin with hopes of returning home with a gold medal. You’ll see yellow school buses, car windows laden with white shoe polish and a lot of smiles on anticipatory faces of the …

The No. 1 ranked Longhorns play in Fayetteville tonight, which marks the beginning of yet another ranked SEC series for Texas. I spoke with a couple of sources this morning to get the latest. - Let’s start with OF Jonah Williams, who has been out the last week or so due to a hamstring injury. As I reported a few days ago, Williams is expected to see playing time this weekend. I’m not sure how much, but he should be back in action. - Second baseman Ethan Mendoza won’t be on the field defensively, but will continue to bat this weekend for the Longhorns. - As for Max Belyeu, his recovery progress is going well. Texas wants to be very careful with him,…

2027 Pflugerville Weiss WR Tre Moore Update I made the quick drive over to Pflugerville to catch up with one of the top 2027 playmakers in the area – WR Tre Moore. On the cuff, Moore is a heck of an athlete, standing 6-foot-3-inches. Moore also grew into his body very well over the last year since I saw him last spring. It is funny looking back, Moore's first D1 offer came from Oregon (look away @Joe Zura) and now he is ranked as a top-20 player in the state of Texas and No. 120 nationally per the composite. Moore was on campus twice in the spring. The first time he and a number of talented Weiss prospects all took a trip down together, then he returned a w…

The portal window is officially - and finally - closed. There can be no new entrants, either undergraduate or graduate until December. Just three Longhorns players total entered this spring - kicker Bert Auburn, punter Michael Kern and offensive lineman Malik Agbo. Meanwhile Texas added five players to its roster. Four are starters from Power 5 schools plus a kicker with 60-yard range. For the entire portal campaign, winter and spring, Texas officially added eight starters from power 5 schools. By comparison, Texas lost two “potential” starters in tight end Amari Niblack (A&M) and defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell (LSU) and a lot of depth pieces, lik…

Defensive line recruiting update OnTexasFootball has talked with a trio of sources to put together the latest on defensive line recruiting. USC commit Jameion Winfield ... Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker was by Richardson (Texas) High Monday to take in practice and make an in-home visit. The 6-foot-3.5, 300-pound 4-star++ prospect remains solidly committed to USC, but remains scheduled to make an official visit to Texas June 13-15. This is a recruitment that Texas will keep plugging away at well into the 2025 season. Sunshine State star James Johnson (Miami/Northwestern) ... OTF spoke with a source close to the 4-star++ defensive tackle. …

Monday afternoon recruiting nuggets OnTexasFootball brings a few afternoon recruiting nuggets. Camren Hamiel ... The OTF 4-star++ nickel/corner had a tremendous visit over the weekend. According to a locked in source, Texas will receive and official visit. The question is how many school will receive OV's. Three are likely at this point. Texas, Oregon and Penn State are receiving the most mention right now. Arizona State is going to work hard to pull the upset for the in-state defensive back that is originally from Fort Wayne, In. Justice Fitzpatrick ... OnTexasFootball spoke to a source in South Florida close to the recruitment of the 4-star++ …

Texas hosted 2026 Oaks Christian (Calif.) DB Davon Benjamin for a three-day visit last Wednesday, leading into the final days of the spring season. Benjamin had been looking to get down to Texas earlier in the spring and was able to make it at the tail end, a big move for the Longhorns in this recruitment. OnTexasFootball caught up with the borderline five-star prospect to get his thoughts on the week in Austin and to see where things sit in his recruitment going forward. Above all, it was a successful first trip down to Austin for the Cali-native. "Overall, I loved it," Benjamin told OTF. "Austin is a great place to be. (Texas) is their pro team. You know…

OTF takes a look at what would be the No. 1 class Yesterday, OnTexasFootball took at look at the 2026 Best Class Scenario entering May with all the options that Texas could mix and match to lock in a fifth straight top 5 class. Today, we go a step further and take a look at what could likely place Texas as the No. 1 ranked class two cycles in a row. There are 25 prospects in this scenario with this breakdown: Texas - 10 Florida - 6 Georgia - 4 California - 2 North Carolina - 1 Arizona - 1 New Jersey - 1 OTF believes that if Texas puts together 85% of every recruiting class from the states of Texas, Florida, Georgia and California; the …

Texas has set back to back records for most players selected in a single NFL Draft in each of the last two years. With 12 Longhorns hearing their name called over the weekend, the focus now turns to their professional careers in the NFL. However, the plan for three consecutive successful NFL Drafts is the focus in Austin. Which leads us to a way-too-early look towards the 2026 NFL Draft. *** 1st Round Picks LB Anthony Hill Jr. Going into year three as a starter in the middle of the Texas defense, Anthony Hill Jr. is going to be a frontrunner for the Butkus Award in 2025 meaning it is not farfetched to think he could enter next year's Draft as the …

The Texas Longhorns wrapped up the 2025 spring season on Saturday before greeting thousands of Longhorn fans on the field at DKR for the inaugural Fan Fest to wrap up the spring season. As a result, the highly anticipated 15 practices showcasing 27 first time Longhorns has concluded. Texas is going to be a popular pick for the preseason No. 1 team in the country when poll season comes around and for good reason. Led by Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill Jr., Michael Taaffe, Trey Moore and plenty of other returning stars on the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns will turn the reigns over to Arch Manning and a fresh offensive line. Fortunately, there is plen…

Best Class Scenario 2026: Top 3 class loading Steve Sarkisian and staff will begin the spring evaluation period with a list of official visitors and targets that would easily put together a fifth straight top 5 ranked class. Of course there is plenty of work to be done in May and June prior to many decisions being made, but Texas' recruiting is at all-time high levels headed into May with more and more highly ranked prospects making their way to campus more often. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the Best Class Scenario headed into May. Quarterback (1) Dia Bell, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage #AllGasNoBrakes OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star …

“I don’t think spring really could have gone much better,” one source told me on Sunday evening. ”The voices, the leadership is there. Arch is the dude. He is the leader on offense. And the defense, those guys respect him. Anthony Hill, Colin Simmons, Michael Taaffe, Ethan Burke. They are just a good core. You could put Liona Lefau and Jelani McDonald in there, too.” More: ”We had some (young) guys get a lot of run. We found some surprises, kind of got a feel for who is ahead of the pack (at different positions). ”I felt like the offensive line started maturing. There’s a lot to like.” And another note: ”The injuries, almost all of them came …

Following the Horns series clenching win over the Aggies on Saturday, I spoke with some sources regarding freshman Jonah Williams. Originally the plan was to play Williams this weekend, if he was ready. As of Friday morning, there was a good feeling he would be back against the Aggies. That changed later that day and we didn’t see Williams in the lineup yesterday or today. You won’t see him tomorrow either, I’m told. Williams tweaked his hamstring against Texas State and the staff is in no hurry to put him back out on the field until he’s good to go. I also wouldn’t expect to see him on Tuesday against Prairie View A&M either. With t…

Sunday recruiting news and notes OnTexasFootball shares some recruiting news and notes from the last few days of unofficial visits. 5-star RB Derrek Cooper ... Cooper's multi-day visit to Texas was tremendous per two sources. The Longhorns are set to receive an official visit in June. Texas prefers a weekend OV, but Cooper would have to shuffle dates that are currently Miami May 30-June 2, Alabama June 6-8, Georgia June 13-15 and Ohio State June 20-22. He cancelled his mid-week Penn State visit during the Texas visit. 4-star++ CB/N Camren Hamiel ... The Goodyear (Az.) Desert Edge corner/nickel looks TERRIFIC on the hoof, for those that care. He'…

Some notes from yesterday: - Defensive lineman Alex January was said to have a standout day. - Ryan Wingo and Arch Manning connected on the longest pass play of the day. - There were six would-be sacks across the three different offensive levels (1st, 2nd and 3rd teams). Texas does not allow for the QB to sacked. - The Horns worked Arch Manning some in the run game. - Defensive end Lance Jackson was singled out for his play yesterday. - Trey Owens held off KJ Lacey all the way through camp for the back-up spot and that remains the case as practice ended yesterday. - Daniel Cruz has seen extended action with the 2s at center. There w…

We are officially one day away from the 2025 NFL Draft! Which also means, we are one day away from the beginning of the Texas Longhorns setting another Draft record for players selected in a single draft. The record was set in 2024, and it appears to me like it will be shattered after 14 Longhorns were invited to the NFL Combine in February. I have 14 players selected over the next three days of Draft, a record for The University of Texas. *** R1, Pick 9 – New Orleans Selects CB Jahdae Barron I have seen enough, I have heard enough – Jahdae Barron is the best cornerback in this Draft class and will be treated as such on Thursday. Barron, the…

As the Longhorns gear up to host a red hot Texas A&M team this weekend, I checked with a couple of sources to see where things stand as of Friday morning. First, let's start with some really good news. I'm told that all signs are pointing to freshman Jonah Williams playing against the Aggies this weekend. "Good chance he plays, but we will be careful," said a team source. That's phenomenal, as Williams leads the team in batting average (albeit a small sample size compared to the rest), as he is .462 at the plate in 13 ABs. --- Yesterday I reported the weekend lineup on the mound would look like this: Friday - Ruger Riojas Saturday - Luke…
