I have a serious question: What more could a Longhorn fan want from a season opener? The Longhorns dominated Colorado State from about eight minutes into the game until the very last minute of it. It was the most complete season-opening performance a Texas team has displayed under Steve Sarkisian. It may be the most complete opening-game performance for a season since... well, since VY or Colt were in the captain's chair. Texas out-gained Colorado State 545 yards to 190. Texas pitched its second largest shutdown in the season opener in school history Saturday afternoon against Colorado State. My five biggest takeaways from the afternoon at DKR. *** 1. Texas Lived Up to Its No. 4 Ranking That was a dominant performance. All around. Texas scored on seven straight possessions and found the end zone on six straight drives in the middle of the game. It was a clinical performance offensively after the first quarter. The season opener took place at DKR in front of 99,171 spectators where the Longhorns put on an absolute clinic defensively and the offense found a scorching hot rhythm as the game progressed. ---- Pregame – It is much cooler than I expected about a week ago. My weather app says 94º is the high, though it is about 88º at the time of kickoff. Much cooler and plays to the advantage of CSU just a bit. Momentum continues! Texas adds five more stars to its 2025 recruiting class with the huge addition of WR Jaime Ffrench out of Mandarin, Florida. The Longhorns come away victoriously and hold onto what had been a solid lead dating back to the summer official visit period. Ffrench left Austin following his OV and immediately sources told OTF that the Longhorns were going to be the team to beat in this recruitment and sure enough, Sarkisian and Chris Jackson pull it off for another OOS five-star. Sarkisian's out of state wins on the recruiting trail Steve Sarkisian and staff have brought national recruiting to the Texas program. With the commitment this morning of Jaime Ffrench, the Longhorns have seven commitments from out of state prospects in the 2025 class with a chance at 10 for a third straight class. Ffrench's pledge is a big one, as this is the first national recruiting win in the very talented Jacksonville (Fla.) area in the last 30 years, if not ever. A big one! Texas wins out on the Jonah Williams sweepstakes and adds a massive five-star prospect to the 2025 class! Two days, two commitments for the Texas class, as Jonah Williams gives his verbal commitment Saturday evening. The Longhorns beat out Texas A&M, LSU and Oregon. In a recruitment that had a new leader almost every month of the spring and early summer, the Texas staff comes in late to win over Williams the family. Texas combatted not having an official visit in the month of June by getting Williams on campus for the Pool Bash in late July and ultimately helped seal the deal for the Longhorns. Jaime Ffrench: Decision Countdown Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin wide receiver Jaime Ffrench is set to announce his commitment in 24 hours. The ceremony will take place at Mandarin High at 7:25 a.m. central time on Friday. Ffrench, 6-1 and 185 pounds, will announce out of Texas, Miami, Tennessee and LSU. The Texas Longhorns have been trending in this recruitment since an unofficial visit in the spring with his parents. Texas SEC basketball schedule released: It's a doozy The Texas Longhorns football program received a favorable year one schedule. The basketball team did not. The SEC released the conference slate for the 2024-25 season Tuesday, and Rodney Terry and staff have a scheduled that includes nine opponents that are in Joe Lunardi's ESPN Bracketology from July 31. Some tidbits I've picked up in the last 24-48 hours: * Expect Tre Wisner to be a more important piece to the offense than perhaps many realize. Wisner has had a very strong fall camp. And while his size may not be entirely different than Jaydon Blue, his running style is distinctive. Texas will be hosting 2025 Grayson (Ga.) DL Joseph Mbatchou for a visit Septmeber 14 for the UTSA game. Mbatchou was offered by the Longhorns August 14 and quickly the two sides worked to get a visit set up. The 6–5 and 275-pound interior defensive lineman has been committed to Florida since July 31, though received an offer from Georgia this Monday evening. The late riser was born in Cameroon and received his first offer from Florida the final week of July.
