BUDAPEST – Texas men's swimmer Luke Hobson broke two world records at the World Aquatics Short Course World Championships on Friday. Hobson, the two-time NCAA 200 freestyle champion, broke the world record off his first leg of the 4x200 free relay with a time of 1:38.91. His time broke the oldest SCM male world record set by Paul Biedermann in 2009 with his time of 1:39.37. It is the first individual world record for a UT student-athlete since Aaron Piersol broke the 100 backstroke also in 2009. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Hailey Hernandez of the No. 2 women's swim and dive program won the 1-meter gold medal at the USA Winter National Championships. Hernandez claimed the gold medal after totaling 506.75 points in the final of the 1-meter competition. On her final forward dive of a 1.5 somersault two twist free, Hernandez totaled 57.20 points. The Texas All-American finished in front of Sophie Verzyl and Lanie Gutch to win the gold. She climbed two positions from the prelims after scoring 252.90 points before claiming the title. On the men's side, Luke Forester reached his first-ever USA 1-meter final and finished seventh overall.

Was on my way to likely buy a new car that I’ve been working on a deal for about 3 or so days. It’s technically a demo but only 500 miles (this is important). The sales guy knows I’m on my way and calls me about 10-15 minutes into my drive to the dealership and asks, did I get him text. I said no, but I’m 5 minutes away and my wife is at the parking lot he says, “oh man. I wish you did. A few nuggets to pass along: *** Texas has been kicking the tires on former Arkansas LB Brad 'Greedy' Spence out of the transfer portal as of recently. The former four-star linebacker from Klein Forest High School in Houston entered the portal earlier in the week and I have learned that the Longhorns could be looking at Spence as an option out of the portal. Texas recruited Spence a good bit during the 2023 class, though never got to the point of an official visit. Texas freshman EDGE Colin Simmons has been named to the SEC All-Freshman team after his performance this season. Simmons finished the 13 game slate for the Longhorns with eight sacks and was an instrumental piece of the Texas defense which ranks atop the country in many defensive metrics.

NMSU is our last remaining non-conference opponent in the Pomeroy top 200, thanks to its upset victory on the road against in-state rival UNM to come out of a 5 game losing streak, the last being a 78-70 loss at home to Abilene Christian, which is decidedly not a quality team this year. NMSU has the fouliest bunch of big men in the country. Two Tshimangas and a Nnamoko, three guys who have combined for 70 fouls in 266 total minutes this year. They combined for 12 fouls in 30 minutes against Dayton. Neat trick that.
