I’m told that Texas second baseman Ethan Mendoza will return next season. Mendoza will undergo off-season surgery on his shoulder, but no timeline has been given on a return. As a junior in 2026, he started more than 60 games and put together another productive season, batting .278 with 52 runs, 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Mendoza also posted a .389 on-base percentage and .478 slugging percentage.

Had a chance to spend a few days in Mexico this past weekend with some friends from the area. Had to take a pic with the Texas flag outside of a bar in Puerto Aventuras. Awesome area if y'all have never been. My first time in the Cancun area. Can't wait to go back! Pardon the sweat stains.

Acker was a team captain in 1979, was named First-Team All-SWC and finished with 29 career sacks (still tied for fourth in Texas history). We’re 54 days away from Texas football. Today’s No. 54 group is led by Mike Baab, one of the best centers to come through Texas. Baab was a team captain, First-Team All-Southwest Conference, helped Texas go 10-1-1 and finish No. 2 nationally in 1981, then started in the Cotton Bowl win over Alabama. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL with Cleveland, New England and Kansas City. Cole Hutson also belongs in the conversation after a really solid Texas career from 2022-25. Tom Landry was a football genius. He incorporated the shotgun formation into every down usage (the shotgun was probably created by a CFL coach named Frank Ivy but modernized and first used by 49’ers coach Red Hickey in the early 1960s). His defensive innovation, the 4-3 defense is still used by pretty much every team in America. More importantly, his usage of 4 DL and 7 DBs led to what is often referred to as simulated pressure today. The attached video illustrates that concept.
