There’s an argument to be made that the 2000s under Mack Brown, not the 1960s under Darrell Royal, are the best decade in the history of the Texas football program. Only Boise State tallied more wins than the Longhorns’ 110 victories from 2000-09 among FBS clubs. Texas only won two conference championships during the decade. But the Longhorns suffered an upset loss in the Big 12 title game in 2001 and were denied rightful entry to the 2008 game (it’s hard to explain to someone who wasn’t around or didn’t follow college football at the time that a system of computer rankings rendered Texas’ 45-35 win over Oklahoma in arguably the best in the history of the series moot…

Even though a lot has changed since Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood got to Alabama in 2019 and started evaluating, recruiting and developing offensive linemen in college football together, Ismael Camra will get them back to their roots. The 6-foot-6-inch, 335-pound Gilmer product’s Fourth of July commitment to Texas is the Longhorns' biggest, most highly-touted member of a five-man offensive line class. Look no further than Sarkisian’s celebratory social media message as confirmation that even though the staff isn’t married to the acquisition philosophy that bigger is always better, they’ll make an exception for a prospect with Camara’s upside. There are a few ap…

We’re 59 days away from Texas football and this one is a little different. There isn’t a long list of legendary No. 59s and Lee Lyles gets the nod here. Lyles was a three-year letterman at center from 1972-74, started during the early 1970s Darrell Royal era, helped anchor one of Texas’ potent rushing offenses, and then went on to play professionally. So we’re also looking at No. 59 by the numbers. The 1961 Texas defense gave up just 59 points all season, finished 10-1 and won the Cotton Bowl. That remains one of the stingiest defensive seasons in school history. And then there are the 59-yard touchdown passes: Case McCoy to Marcus Johnson in the …

Darrell Royal, who would’ve celebrated his 102nd birthday on Monday, led Texas through what, to this point, is the golden age of football on the Forty Acres. The 1960s were so good to Texas that the Longhorns, not Alabama, should’ve been CBS Sports' pick for college football’s best program during Royal’s first full decade on the job. The sport was a different animal when Royal led the Longhorns to an 86-19-3 record, winning the Southwest Conference five times and claiming national championships at the conclusion of undefeated seasons in 1963 and 1969 than it was in the 2000s when Mack Brown won 110 games (the second-most FBS wins in the decade) and a national ch…

Jim Schlossnagle and Texas Baseball secure a commitment from former UCLA outfielder Payton Brennan Monday evening. Brennan hit .290 with 9 home runs and 51 RBI for the Bruins in 2026. He also racked up a .394 on base percentage on the season. per 64Analytics, Brennan was the No. 8 player in the portal rankings, adding to what has been a solid haul for the Horns this summer. With the current roster, the Texas outfield will likely consist of Anthony Pack Jr., Sawyer Solitaria and Payton Brennan as the starting trio. Long Beach State OF addition Trevor Goldenetz is likely your 4th option.

@Gerry Hamilton and @Rod Babers had fun ladt night on the Livestream talking about different RB combos for the longhorns, even if they didn't play at the same time. Lots of really good ones. For us old guys I present for consideration: Chris Gilbert, 3x 1000 yd rusher (10 game season). Speed, balance, bounce, eyes. Roosevelt Leaks, a preview of Earl Campbell; 342 yds rushing vs SMU. Brute strength, between tackles burst, speed.

We’re 60 days away from Texas football and this is one of the strongest groups in the entire countdown. Tommy Nobis is clearly the headliner. National champion, Outland Trophy winner, Maxwell Award winner, two-time All-American, three-time First-Team All-SWC, No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, College Football Hall of Famer and one of the few Longhorns to have his number retired. He’s not just the best No. 60… he’s one of the greatest players in Texas football history. But the rest of the group is stacked too. Johnny Treadwell was a unanimous All-American and one of Texas’ great two-way players. Britt Hager is still the program’s career tackles leader with 499. Jeff …

Comparing the USMNT Starting XI to the 2026 Texas Longhorn Roster *** Ahead of Team USA's knockout round matchup with Belgium this evening, a couple of us thought it would be a fun exercise to compare the starting 11 for USMNT and who their comparisons would be from the 2026 Texas Longhorn roster. A few things before we get started. First, I am no soccer expert, so if you follow the team any bit closer than I do and do not agree, cut me a but of slack! Secondly, yes, we are deep deep into the college football offseason when pieces like this are the topic of the day. And lastly, hopefully this was a fun exercise for all. By the way, Go USA tonight. …

We’re 64 days away from Texas football. Today’s No. 64 group is loaded with some serious big-man history. Casey Hampton headlines it... two-time First-Team All-American, 2000 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, 329 career tackles, 54 TFL, 5-time NFL Pro Bowler and 2-time Super Bowl champ. One of the best defensive tackles to ever come through Texas. Kasey Studdard was a key piece of the 2005 national title team, who earned All-Big 12 honors in both 2005 and 2006, helped clear the way for one of the most explosive offenses in Texas history, and won the Joseph W. Moore Award for Tenacity, which pretty much sums up the way he played. Bobby Mitchell was …

We’re 66 days away from Texas football. Today’s group is a strong one up front with Harley Sewell, Doug Dawson, Herb Gray and Calvin Anderson. Sewell is the headliner as a two-time consensus All-American, Cotton Bowl MVP, College Football Hall of Famer and four-time NFL Pro Bowler. Dawson was a consensus All-American and captain of the 1983 team, while Gray was a consensus All-American, All-SWC tackle and SWC Defensive MVP. Anderson gave Texas a big one-year boost in 2018, starting every game at left tackle for a Sugar Bowl-winning team.

Born July 6, 1924. At the age of 32, Darrell Royal came to the University of Texas campus with a folksy sense of humor and an innovative style of football that produced almost instant success and the lifelong respect and affection of Longhorn fans throughout the world. In Royal’s second year at Texas, the Longhorns played in their first of what would be 16 bowl games over the next 20 years; three for national championships. In 23 years as head coach, he never had a losing season. The Longhorns finished in the top 10 nationally during 11 of those seasons. In 1962, Royal assumed the dual role of Athletics Director and head football coach at the University of Texas. He…

Reports are circulating Monday afternoon that Texas commit Brody Bumila has alerted MLB teams of a UCL injury in his left elbow. Bumila is a consensus top-40 prospect for the upcoming MLB Draft, which will air its first round on July 11. The 6-foot-9 left handed pitcher already underwent a Tommy John procedure once in his high school career, but he has recovered to throw north of 100 mph with his fastball and become one of the most intriguing prospects in recent draft history. Does this change anything for his odds to reach campus? We will see, likely no. An MLB team will take a chance on a lefty hitting triple digits early in this Draft even if it comes at…
