A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Mini update on Hero Kanu Junior defensive tackle Hero Kanu is one of the key members of the Texas team weighing the decision of whether to return to Texas for a final season of college ball, or head off to the NFL Draft. OTF exchanged messages with a source very close to Kanu. "We are in talks right now with all." That meant Texas, and getting a feeling where the 6-foot-5, 300-pounder could project if he enters the draft. Kanu walked on Senior Day, but that was more because his family was in Austin from Germany vs. having a decision on leaving. When asking the source what was the timeline for a decision, there isn't a date locked in. …

  2. So apparently the Big 12 has decided it doesn’t want to wait around for money anymore and is partnering with a private equity–backed fund to… checks notes …borrow against its own future. Very on-brand. Here’s the gist: a new entity gets created, some conference commercial rights get parked in it, and a finance group backed by RedBird and Weatherford waves around up to $500 million in upfront cash. Schools can opt in, take the money now, and repay it later by giving up future conference distributions. It’s basically revenue sharing meets Payday Loans. To be clear, this isn’t free money. This is the conference equivalent of saying, “Yes, I understand the interest …

  3. Who is Stepping Up for the Texas Portal Departures / NFL Draft Declarations *** Going position x position. Quarterback Departures: Trey Owens No change in the pecking order. Running Back Departures: CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson, Rickey Stewart Tre Wisner continues to take the most first team snaps in practice, no surprise there. The name I have heard the most about in the running back room is freshman Michael Terry III. Two sources have referenced a play from MT3 in practice where he juked a veteran Longhorn defensive back and drew the praise of the staff immediately after. Christian Clark has been the 2nd back up, followed by James …

  4. Looks like Tua could be heading to the bench. Zach Wilson is a free agent, I bet they give Quinn the nod since he is under contract to see what they have in him! 🤘 https://x.com/schultz_report/status/2001007220323242341?s=46

  5. On Texas Football Forum · Started by No13Seed Jim,

I may be considered a poor sport but I hope the Sooners and Farmers each lose significantly in the first round of CFP. It's bad enough that they flaunt their CFP appearances to us Horns, but first round wins would hurt. Ags losing to Miami is rough for me because Miami is way up on my "can't stand them" list. Anyone else feel same? Jim

  6. This is the third of five All-American honors for Colin Simmons on teams officially recognized by the NCAA, which count toward consensus status. Simmons was a second-team selection by the American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-football/news/college-football-all-america-team-2025-sporting-news/b146d858c53c906d5b9646b7

  7. I saw an article: https://brobible.com/sports/article/philip-rivers-play-style-exposing-modern-qbs/ that talks about how Phillip Rivers (and what Tom Brady talks about a lot) in terms of QBs reading the defense instead of just relying on their raw talent. This is what I believe Arch is learning to do under Sark, and this takes a lot of experience and time. Arch also has the physical gifts and abilities as well which is why I believe many people predict him to be great and some even projected #1 pick. He has the ability to blend both the old school style (from his uncle's day) and the new style of play. Hoping it comes to fruition fully next year and results i…

  9. Interesting article on the ESPN site titled "Steve Sarkisian: Texas to honor Ohio State, Michigan games". Opening paragraph - "ORLANDO, Fla. -- Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday the Longhorns would honor the return nonconference games with Ohio State in 2026 and Michigan in 2027, but would reconsider its nonconference scheduling philosophy beyond that based on College Football Playoff selection criteria" What's left unsaid is that "beyond that" seemingly would include our currently schedule games with Notre Dame in 2028 (Sept 9 in South Bend) and 2029 (Sept 22 in Austin). No mention of Notre Dame in the article, which stresses that the committee seemi…

  10. How are we doing this year? Seems like we should be in the thick of it.

  11. Revisiting Preseason Positional Confidence Levels **** Came across an old tweet of mine that I had written and published right before the start of the season. It was basically, where do I feel the most confidence in each position group entering the season. Obviously, things did not go 100% according to my preseason predictions, but it wasn't entirely far off. By end of the year, quarterback certainly played into the top three position room conversation, but it took much longer than I anticipated getting there. Next, I don't think the safety room played as a top five unit in the second half of the season. Running back was too high originally as wel…

  12. Monday’s news of Liona Lefau’s departure from the Texas football program, along with DeAndre Moore Jr.’s intention to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, is collateral damage amid the persistent roster volatility permeating throughout college football. The Longhorns planned to use the transfer portal to bolster the linebacker position before Lefau’s decision to enter the transfer portal went public. With Lefau’s production over 42 career games played and 22 starts gone, Texas will look for proven commodities to overhaul the second level of Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense. Moore, who wasn’t expected back on the Forty Acres in 2026, according to what team sources told On T…

  16. Going from Klein to Wiggins at OC is like going from Lincoln Riley’s brisket to dogfood. What an underwhelming hire for them.

  17. Anthony Hill was a second-team selection at linebacker. Taaffe was a third-team selection at safety. Colin Simmons was not named to the AP All-America team.

  18. Found this really interesting! This doesn’t happen often, if ever. Still super early as he wouldn’t play until the 2027 College Season but usually Japanese players play in Nippon Professional Baseball (Japan’s MLB) before asking to be posted to MLB. If his plans go through, this would be a fun recruitment to watch. A year at a US college would make him eligible for the MLB draft without NPB. It should be noted that he can be drafted to NPB in 2026 so I wonder if a college NIL offer would need to rival a NPB Contract. Either way it will probably bring huge fanfare/revenue to whatever University he chooses.
