We're 95 days away from Texas football, which means it's time to look at some of the best Longhorns to ever wear No. 95. Marcus Tubbs (DT, 2000-03) The oversized defensive tackle was one of the most dominant interior defenders of the Mack Brown era, earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors, serving as a team captain and eventually becoming a first-round NFL Draft pick. During his Texas career, Tubbs recorded 207 tackles, 41 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and five forced fumbles while helping anchor some of the best defenses of the early 2000s. Poona Ford (DL, 2014-17) Few players have been more respected by Longhorn fans over the past decade than Poona Ford. …

After last night's 16-2 win over Tarleton State, Texas will get the winner of an elimination game at noon between the Texans and UC Santa Barbara. The good news for the Longhorns is that no matter the opponent, their pitching should be essentially depleted. The Gauchos aren't expected to bring ace Jackson Flora back for the rest of the regional after he threw 97 pitches against Holy Cross yesterday. Tarleton State has been dealing with pitching injuries late in the season, so the Texans came into the regional without a full complement of arms. Texas (42-13) will send Ruger Riojas to the mound. The Longhorns also have a fully-rested bullpen, with Thomas Burns, Ha…

Today’s countdown number belongs to a pair of defensive tackles from two very different eras of Texas football. One helped bridge the gap from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12. The other took one of the most unusual paths to success in recent Longhorn history. 1. Chris Whaley (2009-13) Chris Whaley arrived at Texas as a highly regarded running back, but injuries and roster needs eventually led him to defensive tackle. The move paid off. Whaley became a key contributor on the defensive line and served as a team captain during the 2013 season. He finished his career with 67 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three sacks across 47 games. His…

The 2027 ballot includes 80 players and nine coaches from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 99 players and 39 coaches from the NCAA divisional and NAIA ranks. Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca Raton DL Jamar Thompson added Texas to his OV schedule last month (June 19-21), dropping Michigan from his visit schedule. OTF has learned that Thompson will now unofficially visit Texas this week, on Tuesday, before that June 19-21 OV. Ohio State is slated to get him in on June 12-14. This looks like it's shaping up to be Ohio State and Texas down the stretch. Miami appears to be out of the running, but we'll see if the Canes circle back.

AUSTIN, Texas — Behind Ruger Riojas’ exceptional performance on the mound and Aiden Robbins’ heroic home run in the seventh inning of Sunday’s championship game of the Austin Regional, Texas eliminated UC Santa Barbara to advance in the NCAA Tournament with a 6-4 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. After last year’s disappointing exit in the regional as one of eight national seeds, the Longhorns (the No. 6 overall national seed) righted the ship this season. With a 19-1 rout of Holy Cross on Friday and a 16-2 dismantling of Tarleton State in the winner’s bracket game on Saturday preceding the late-inning comeback victory over the Gauchos, Texas (43-13) will host the winner…

just a few tidbits I read on Twitter (did not confirm): - Askew on the perception that student-athletes would not come forward on their own addictions based on a Sorsby ruling: “Mr. Sorsby didn’t come forward, he got caught. When he got caught, he went to treatment and that’s the first we hear of this mental health concern.” - Defense also notes, eligibility for Sorsby does not preclude him from being an ambassador for mental health. Says there is no get out of jail free card because you are a good quarterback. - In what I think is a really good point, the NCAA notes, Sorsby being eligible would be the first league in America to allow a player who bet on t…
