On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Offensively: Can Texas get into actions quickly, thus allowing for the ball to hit multiple hands? During the first matchup, A&M was able to use what basketball nerds refer to as "token" pressure to slow Texas down. Out of a 1-2-2 3/4 court zone look, they applied enough pressure to get Texas to eat shot clock usually beginning the offensive possession in the attacking area with anywhere from 18-22 seconds on the clock, instead of 24-27. For a team where the ball sticks a lot anyway, this creates a sense of panic and usually ends up in one ball screen, against loaded help, and hoping to make a tough shot. A&M is far too good defensively for this to be effect…

  2. It’s inevitable. Thinking 5.5 to 7.5 M per year. Texas will spend top 5 money. Now let’s go get a coach who wasn’t a pitty hire.

  4. On February 14th, the Longhorns will take the field at Globe Life in Arlington for the first time under new Texas Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. With just 21 days away from that first pitch, I spoke to a couple of sources to see where things stand. Pitching: Two players in particular have carved out starting roles on the mound. LHP Jared Spencer (Indiana State) looks to be your Friday starter, while LHP Luke Harrison will take the Saturday slot. Spencer has been particularly impressive from what I've been told, with multiple people raving about his abilities. As for Harrison, it sounds like pitching coach Max Weiner has helped him come on really strong (get read…

I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on the upcoming National Championship Game on Monday night. Who do you think wins? Who are you pulling for? As for me, those are two different things. I think Ohio State wins but I'll be cheering for underdog Notre Dame. I know that a TOSU win would make the Texas loss to them look better. I just can not make myself pull for Ohio State. I despise them. I think it's going to be a close game. Notre Dame just seems to find a way to win. What are your thoughts?

  6. We’ve been getting A LOT of Jonah Williams questions lately, so I spoke with some sources regarding where things currently stand with him. Williams, an early enrollee, will be a two-sport athlete on the Forty Acres. He’ll attempt to balance both football and baseball, which is no easy task. Toward the end of football season, Williams fractured his clavicle on his left arm. Both staffs do not want to rush him and have been working to rehab that injury as efficiently as possible. One source close to the baseball program told me that there is no definitive timetable for Williams return. “I’m not sure. Hoping to be cleared for some stuff and we’ll go fr…

Rumors are circulating Oregon and Texas are tampering. Ohio State had a thread a few days ago mentioning this and On3 just reported Tate has a 1M offer (On3 didn’t say what team)

  8. New 4-star DB from Georgia on the radar OnTexasFootball 4-star 2026 CB/nickel Jalen Williams (Marietta, Ga./Kell) tells OnTexssFootball that members of the Texas Longhorns staff have reached out to him and said they are stopping by the school next week. Williams, 6-foot and 165-pounds, has been one of the most popular prospects by college coaches in the Greater Atlanta area since the end of the 2024 season. Williams has picked up January offers from Texas A&M, Arizona State, Vanderbilt and NC State; along with serious interest from many others. The offer list also includes Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke and Pittsbu…

I looked and didn’t see this asked anywhere… any clue when the spring game might be this year? Have some siblings that want to fly in for it and are trying to plan. April 12 or April 26 make the most sense but curious if anyone is in the know on this.

  13. I'm elated to be a part of On Texas Football. My conversations with Bobby and Gerry recently reminded me of the early days of building the Texas site for 247Sports. What made those days exciting (and, for me, when working in the market was the most fulfilling) was that the bottom line was about building a community where fans who bled burnt orange wanted to be. That’s what excites me about continuing to write about, analyze, and report on the Longhorns with OTF. August 2010 wasn’t the ideal time to launch and build an online community and news source for Texas fans, but OTF is experiencing rapid growth at a time when Steve Sarkisian looks primed to lead the Long…

  14. AUSTIN, Texas – Eight months after appearing in the championship series of the Women's College World Series for the second time in the last three seasons, The University of Texas softball program will begin a historic campaign on Friday, Feb. 7 as Longhorn softball head coach Mike White announced Thursday UT's 2025 regular season schedule. 2025 will mark the first season for Texas, which was selected as the No. 1 team in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 preseason rankings, in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) after the Longhorns arrived in the league on July 1, 2024. Figured I’d start this thread and see if anyone has questions about the X&O’s aspect of what we’re watching with Texas, or in basketball as a whole. I know there are a bunch of basketball fans out there, so wanted to give a space for conversation and see if I can help anyone gain a better understanding for what we’re seeing (or not seeing). 20. Biggest news is Boogie Fland being out for the season, so the Calipari era in Fayetteville maybe just got that much darker. There are already articles out there about other SEC coaches criticizing his coaching style. https://www.si.com/college-basketball/sec-coach-devastating-one-word-description-john-calipari-arkansas-winless-conference-play Arky is 0-5 going into a road game against tournament hopeful Georgia. What's a dribble drive offense proponent going to do when he loses his best dribble driver? I guess Wagner moves to the point and Arky will depend on everyone creating their own shots and controlling the middle, but eesh. Looking like a disaster of …
