Previewing Florida Saturday marks the opening of SEC play for the Texas Longhorns. Hope you all enjoy the week of college football on what should be a completely stress free afternoon of viewing. The Texas bye week comes at a great time. The Longhorns are nearing their healthiest level as a team since before fall camp began and will enter The Swamp next Saturday very well rested. Right now, majority of players on the team made a quick trip back home to see parents and friends. The Stanford transfer has been on the practice field this week for the Longhorns, his first practice appearance this season. It’s an off week for the Longhorns, so it’s supposed to be a slow news week. Well, yesterday was anything but. ** First, Oklahoma announced its Heisman front-running quarterback, John Mateer, would have surgery later today in Los Angeles for a problem with his throwing hand. The surgery is expected to sideline Mateer for at least a month. For those calculating such things, that length of time is just enough for Mateer to miss the Red River Rivalry with the Longhorns. Texas Hoops: Practice begins Thursday; Duke game 42 days away Sean Miller's first season at Texas begins in 42 days in Charlotte vs. the Duke Blue Devils. Prior to that first game as head coach at Texas, the Longhorns will conduct 30 practices in 42 days per NCAA rules. The Longhorns in year one under Miller are considered a top 25 team by some, and fringe top 25-30 team by others. They are a team projected to make the NCAA Tournament. Jalen Lott: The latest Oregon verbal and 4-star++ wide receiver Jalen Lott (Frisco, Texas/Panther Creek) was back on campus at Texas over the weekend with his mom and dad. The visit wasn't about being at Texas for a game day, or game atmosphere or anything that is key in many recruiting visits. Of all the players Texas is recruiting in the 2026 cycle, Jalen Lott has been on campus and attended games in DKR more than any - and by a good margin.
