Both basketball teams advanced to the Sweet 16 this weekend. It’s the first time in three seasons that both the men and women advanced to the round simultaneously. For the men, it’s the 15th time in program history the Horns have made it this far in the NCAA tourney. The men are clearly peaking at the right time. They’re turning the ball over considerably less than they did in the regular season and defensive metrics are significantly better as well. The news broke yesterday that portal transfer Laurence Seymore, an offensive guard who was named second team All-American by one press outlet last year, had been granted his sixth year by the NCAA to play for Texas in 2026. But I felt like the real hero of last night’s Texas 68-66 win over NC State in the play-in game of the NCAA tourney was Chendall Weaver. Weaver finished with the first double-double of his career. He was 3-5 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also had two steals and just one turnover.
