On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. My basic understanding is coach Boom’s base defense is SDE, NT, DT, overhang Edge/LB, Mike, $, NB in match quarters. I imagine this means the ILB’s need to be really good at covering the flats and deep middle in coverage. If true, does this explain why we need Smith and Biles over more traditional ILB’s like Barnes and Lefau? Would seem to make sense why they hit the portal. Also, do we expect more press man to compliment this? Would we be able to get professor Babers able to explain what to expect?

  2. I always love figuring out new numbers of the newcomers, or returners who are switched. According to Derek Coopers instagram story he will be wearing 5. That’s the only one I’ve been able to find thus far. Any that you guys figure out add them here!

  3. AUSTIN, Texas — The 20 pounds of muscle Texas second baseman Ethan Mendoza added to his frame in the offseason has helped fuel his early-season power surge, which continued in Friday’s 8-1 win over Michigan State. Entering the first game of a three-game series with the Spartans tied for the team lead with two home runs (6-for-15 at the plate with five runs scored through four games) while leading the Longhorns with seven RBI and 12 total bases, Mendoza launched his third long ball of the young season in the bottom of the second. The two-run opposite-field shot was one of three home runs Texas (5-0) pounded out in front of 7,808 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, highligh…

  6. Jim Schlossnagle is hopeful that Jonah Williams will make his 2026 debut when No. 3 Texas takes on Michigan State in a three-game series beginning Friday. Schlossnagle said Williams did some base running work yesterday. Williams will do the same today and they’ll see how he feels tomorrow. As far as Williams’ role, Schlossnagle said it’ll likely be as a designated hitter. The Longhorns want to get Williams some at-bats to make sure he’s ready for conference play, but they don’t want to push him and risk a setback, he said. Here's the full quote from Schlossnagle on Williams' availability: "He did some different directional running yesterday, like you w…

  8. AUSTIN, Texas — The biggest drawback of No. 3 Texas recording two run-rule victories through the first four games of the 2026 season is that there are a few pitchers coach Jim Schlossnagle and pitching coach Max Weiner haven’t seen on the mound. By the time the Longhorns wrap up their three-game non-conference series against Michigan State, which begins Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, Schlossnagle hopes left-handed junior Haiden Leffew and freshmen righties Brett Crossland and Brodie Walls will have made their respective season debuts. “He's an experienced pitcher at the highest levels of Division I baseball,” Schlossnagle said of Leffew on Thursday. The Wake F…

  14. Posted this on twitter this morning and wanted to carry on the conversation to the board. No team in the country has scheduled as many marquee, non-conference home and homes than Texas in the last ten years. 2017 – at USC 2018 – vs. USC 2019 – vs. LSU ... greatest offense of all time 2020 – at LSU ... cancelled to Covid 2021 – at Arkansas ... game scheduled in 2011 2022 – vs. Alabama ... one year removed from Heisman Bryce Young and 2023 – at Alabama ... Saban was 103–9 at home before the game 2024 – at Michigan ... reigning National Champs 2025 – at Ohio State ... reigning National Champs 2026 – v…

  15. How competition can improve Ryan Wingo's mindset and preparation. Wingo has flashed so much potential in his first two years, and he looks so damn dangerous whenever he has the ball in his hands, but I'm not sure anyone thinks he has lived up to his prodigious potential. I was hopeful after his offseason Lasik procedure that the drops would go by the wayside, but they did not go away even with corrective eye surgery. While a lot has been said about Coleman drawing double teams and making life easier for Wingo, not a lot has been made of what having Coleman opposite Wingo can create urgency to up his game. Wingo's gone from being a much ballyhooed 5 star WR who was gi…

  16. ...mind you in the toughest conference in the country, he has three Elite 8's, one loss in the final 32, and last year's Final Four. He has the top recruiting class coming next year. How will we fair this year? The top seed is important. This is an amazing run in just six years! Coaching matters.

  17. Talking a bit of everything post portal and headed into spring

  18. Texas OT Andre Cojoe posted these two pics to his Instagram over the weekend. Wanted to bring them back up given his recovery schedule and how important it would be to get him back by the spring. Cojoe began running again back in January. Small steps but all in the right direction.

  21. Couple of updates on 2027 Prospects *** I added the name Ja'Bios Smith to the official visit thread earlier today but wanted to make sure he got his full mention. The 2027 linebacker out of Swainsboro (Ga.) High confirmed to OTF this morning that he will be in Austin for his official visit on June 12-14. The 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound linebacker holds 23 offers and is considered a consensus top-100 prospect in the country. Official Visit schedule May 28 – Florida June 12 – Texas *** OTF checked in on 2027 North Crowley CB Jerry Outhouse Jr. who visited Austin in January for the junior day. Outhouse tells OTF that he has…
