We’re officially 29 days away from Texas football, so today’s countdown spotlights a couple of Longhorns who have worn No. 29. From 1990-93, Phil Brown rushed for 2,102 career yards and 16 touchdowns, while also adding 72 receptions for 686 yards. He finished his Texas career with 2,788 yards from scrimmage and was part of the 1990 Southwest Conference championship team. If Cole Hutson, who is suing the NCAA to gain an additional season of eligibility, becomes a member of the 2026 roster, his return will check two important boxes for Texas. A team that could play upwards of 17 games needs as much quality depth as possible. With 48 games played and 23 career starts under his belt, Hutson's return would immediately provide the Longhorns with experienced depth at all three interior line spots. Obviously, in Texas everyone would know what you are talking about when you say "UT" but I usually get blank stares now. Texas? A younger friend of mine is planning a trip to Austin on a game day and then a couple days in Hill country around Fredericksburg. He wants to travel to Austin on a Thursday, and experience the game day environment and watch the game somewhere nearby with Longhorn fans in a nearby club or restaurant, maybe the Ohio State weekend. He doesn’t want to shell out what it takes for a ticket. For those in the know, any suggestions appreciated that I can pass on to him? He and his wife are in their 30’s, live out of state. He is a huge Texas fan. I think they plan 3 days in Austin then maybe a drive out to the hill country maybe to the Fredericksburg area for a couple days.

Philly has the tush push. Other teams have the regular QB sneak or the smash mouth formation. Everybody, on the defensive side, is crowded up the middle ready to scrum. What if Texas pulled Manning, brought in KJ Lacey, split Coleman wide, and shocked everybody on the defensive side by lining up a massive TE to play fullback with Smothers and Brown lined up in the Wishbone. I would like to see the reaction from the defense. Could it work?

He still owns the school record with 40.5 career sacks and set the single-season mark with 22.5 in 1982, earning Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors before being inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. There have been some fantastic freshmen talents for the Longhorns over the years and wanted to start the conversation here.
