On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. With Mateer not attending, does that leave @CJ Vogel in limbo on whether he'll be attending as well?

  4. Texas had chances to extend its season in Tuesday’s College World Series elimination game against Georgia. Unfortunately, the Longhorns went 0-for-8 with runners on base and 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in a 2-0 loss to the Bulldogs, making for a disappointing end to the team’s first trip to Omaha under Jim Schlossnagle. Texas (46-15) ends the 2026 season three wins shy of the national championship series, which the program hasn’t reached since 2009. "The bounces didn't go our way tonight," Schlossnagle said. "Really proud of our team and the season we had, finishing in Omaha, and look forward to being back." While the offense struggled, failing…

  7. …first off congrats to the team on a great season. I don’t claim to be a college baseball coach, but doesn’t mean I can’t have opinions. Hat tip to Georgia’s coaches for their game plan against Texas. Pound the strike zone on first pitch until Texas proves they aren’t taking until they get a strike. Throw it right over the middle of the plate until Texas proves they aren’t taking until they get a strike. Once you get Texas batter down 0-1, throw a slider that starts over the plate and breaks off the plate. Once you have Texas batter down 0-2, or even 1-2, congrats you have a huge advantage. I know Texas’ MO is seeing a lot of pitches, but come on, that firs…

  8. Update at 5:41 pm CT on Tuesday: Torres has committed to Texas Florida State softball transfer SS Isa Torres, the reigning national player of the year, is in the transfer portal and OTF is working the phones on where Texas stands in pursuit of one of the biggest names in college softball. Here's what we have at 2:25 p.m. CT on Tuesday ... OTF has communicated with two people in Torres' close circle, both of which have declined to share any specifics as to where things stand with Texas, or in the portal process as a whole. What does that mean? Torres is likely in decision-making mode and our belief is it's going to be a situation where Torres …

  11. Mine: if he was a backup kicker he is suspended and no challenges. Over. per Josh Pate— what if the same problem drops on UT or amy other blueblood, ie high dollar transfer with clean record has same gambling story break 3 mo later. Does the story go differently? I think UT handles it better and the story of Coach Beard may be precedent that they can make difficult decisions even if winning changes hurt in short term. Other blue bloods may go down similar path to tech. Curious what others think.

If UT vs OU can't have their annual October football clash called Red River SHOOTOUT, how does Texas Panhandle Sand Aggies get away with this?

  14. We’re 80 days away from Texas football and No. 80 has a deep group. Alex Okafor and Tim Crowder brought elite pass-rush production, Bo Scaife and Lovell Pinkney were productive targets, while Bill Zapalac and Dwight Jefferson represent earlier championship eras. Who would you pick as the best Longhorn to wear No. 80?

  15. After eliminating Alabama in yesterday’s 14-2 rout in Omaha, Texas gets another crack at Georgia with the season on the line. The Longhorns suffered a 7-1 loss to the Bulldogs in their CWS opener on Saturday, but Adrian Rodriguez hit for the cycle and Ruger Riojas had six solid innings on the mound to get Texas (46-14) to today’s elimination game against Georgia (52-13), which lost its winner’s bracket game against Oklahoma on Monday, 4-3. *** Texas is giving the ball to Luke Harrison (6-3, 4.29 ERA) for tonight's elimination game. Jim Schlossnagle mentioned after Monday's win over Alabama that he liked the Longhorns getting through two games without having to u…

  16. It appears there has been a change on the Texas jersey for the 2026 season. The SEC logo moves to the middle of the jersey from the right pec area. I reached out to Texas last night to confirm plans for a corporate jersey sponsor to which the school said they were unaware of plans.

  17. The 2028 four-star quarterback from American Heritage HS in South Florida was expected at Michigan for an unofficial visit yesterday and today. I'm told by a source near his recruitment that the visit to Ann Arbor was cancelled. Lawrence will travel to Nike HQ in Oregon next week for The Opening Finals. He's still set to commit on June 25 between Texas, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M. OTF placed a Trending Texas forecast in favor of the Longhorns on June 3. We still like that pick ahead of next week.

  18. If so, how important? Did Miami peak at the right time last year? Did Ohio State Peak at the right time the year before? Did Texas Peak at the right time 2 years ago ?

  19. We’re 81 days away from Texas football, and No. 81 has one of the strongest groups in the countdown so far. Pat Fitzgerald was a two-time first-team All-American at tight end, while Sam Acho finished with 23.5 sacks and earned both the Campbell and Wuerffel trophies. Shane Dronett recorded 22 career sacks and set the Texas single-game record with five against Texas Tech, and Maurice Doke was a first-team All-American and the 1959 Southwest Conference Lineman of the Year. The current No. 81 is tight end Nick Townsend. Who gets your vote as the best Longhorn to wear No. 81?

  21. As of midnight on Sunday, programs can now directly contact 2028 recruits (rising juniors), so you're going to see a lot of underclassmen posting graphics or messages from schools. One guy Texas is locked in on already is 5-star WR Brysen Wright out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin. He's already been out to Austin in April, which is really the only school he's seen other than Florida so far in his recruitment. Mandarin is where Texas signed Jaime Ffrench out of, so there are relationships there. Gerry caught up with Brysen on his recent trip to the Sunshine State: You can bet Texas is in close contact with him often now that UT can directly reach o…
