On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. Now that next year the SEC is moving to the nine game schedule, I would like to believe they’re going to have three permanent opponents and six rotating every year. If that’s the case, who should our three main opponents be? The obvious answer is, A&M, OU, and Arky. Is there a world though that we decide to schedule someone other than the obvious least fiery rivalry “arkansas” with maybe LSU, Georgia, or Bama? Not to make Texas and Arkansas’s rivalry seem less then it is but could you imagine going to Athens, Tuscaloosa, or Death Valley every other year?

  2. ESPN took a look at the Top 10 recruits from the last recruiting cycle and gathered intel on how they'll fit in this year... Justus Terry, DT, Texas Longhorns Vitals: 6-foot-5, 268 pounds 2025 ESPN 300 rank: No. 8 overall, No. 2 DT, No. 2 in Georgia Position outlook: The bulk of the defensive line unit that helped carry Texas to a national semifinal last season is gone with 2024 leaders Alfred Collins, Vernon Broughton, Barryn Sorrell, Jermayne Lole and Bill Norton all out of eligibility or off to the NFL. Syracuse transfer Maraad Watson, an 11-game starter as a freshman last fall, and Purdue transfer Cole Brevard lead a deep group of portal newco…

  6. How would Coach Gruden do at the college level with recruiting and NIL? We know he can coach. Assuming Coach Gruden takes a job where NIL is not an issue. Can he recruit? A few current coaches who's seat is getting warmer by the day; Napier, BV, Kelly, Pittman... For me, somewhat of a scary thought if Gruden were to end up at Florida, LSU, or even an OK if they can get it together. Curious what you all think? Apologies if this topic is completely irrelevant for OTF. HOOK'EM

  7. @Bobby Burton…..Noticed ‘About Us’ page references OTF having 60k subscribers…. Assumed it was referencing subscriber count on YouTube…Hard to believe that number is already outdated by 11k as you hit 71k subscribers this week. Congrats on the awesome momentum. With the avalanche of growing members / followers / subscribers each week , you need to start updating your ‘about us’ page every few weeks with the new climbing subscriber count. Just a thought. 🙂 There is no debate at this point that@Bobby Burton @Gerry Hamilton @CJ Vogel @Blake Munroe@Jeff Howe @Rod Babers and @Bob Shipley are the gold standard of daily / weekly football news, whether it’s insig…

I know, 2025 hasn’t even started yet but we all know this is BV’s last season. With Carson Beck graduating what are the odds Mateer plays for Miami in 2026? Bring that up to your OU buddies and you are sure to get a favorable response.

  10. A premise was advanced on another Texas site about an idea that Patricia might use to stop Texas. I was actually thinking that we were going to handily take care of business in Columbus. Now I'm not as confident. 1) We have a new O-Line. We are a little banged up at Tackle. 2) We have a new QB that likes to throw downfield. 3) At least last year, our running game kindof stalled against tough defenses. If Ohio State played 3 down and dropped 8, (Iowa State flyover) and forced Texas to beat them running the ball, could we do it? Ohio State has better athletes. It might work. What do y'all think?

Chris Del Conte’s contract approved. He’s locked in until 2036. Congrats to Chris and congrats to the University of Texas!

I think this team is going to miss Jake Majors this year. He was really steady his last two years. Hutson has been the lowest graded olineman on this team the last three years. Pressure up the middle on Arch could be very real this season.

Hey folks, This is something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time and finally gotten things in place. We’re joining together with the guys at 3rd & Longhorn to do a three-city tour of Texas prior to the season opener. The event is free. We’ll both be taping or recording a live show at the event. There will also be a meet-and-greet section where folks can take pictures with DJ, Fozzy, Rod, and other special guests, and get autographs, etc. Please put it on your calendar if you can make it out. Should be fun! Also: the Dallas event is in conjunction with the annual Texas Exes get together, so that should be a lot of fun. …

  18. MONTHS BEFORE HE glided past the Rose Bowl pylon for Texas' first national championship in 35 years, Vince Young scrawled a challenge on the locker room whiteboard: If you want to beat Ohio State, meet me on the practice field at 7 tonight. During the 2005 offseason, the Texas quarterback grew tired of watching teammates skip workouts and slouch in meetings. The Longhorns had defeated Michigan in Pasadena to finish the 2004 season with 11 victories. But Young sensed complacency and entitlement ahead of the next season and knew a national title would require winning in Columbus in Week 2. "Guys were coming in, feeling themselves," Young said. "But that type …
