A few noteworthy tidbits I wanted to share from conversations I had over the past couple of hours regarding Texas' Junior Day festivities. – First, new co-defensive coordinator and LB coach Johnny Nansen made a really strong initial impact with a number of prospects. Texas hosted an impressive crop of linebackers on the visit, but his impact trickled down to prospects all over the defense. 2026 Bastrop DL Tiki Hola mentioned he was immediately able to connect with Nansen as the result of their Polynesian ties. The fireworks continue! Texas earns its second verbal commitment following their Junior Day from Saturday, this time in the 2025 class. Pleasant Grove EDGE Lance Jackson has announced his verbal commitment to Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns. Jackson, a 6-foot-5 pass rusher spent most of his time with Texas DC Pete Kwiatkowski while on campus yesterday. The Longhorns made a run in his recruitment during the football season and were quick to green-light him for the class. The 2025 class is now up to five members, as Jackson now joins Emaree Winston, KJ Lacey, Brandon Brown and Anthony Williams. Great start to the class. View full news

Texas is hosting former Arizona DL Tiaoalii Savea this weekend for an official visit. Savea dropped the Horns in a tweet this afternoon as well. OTF has confirmed this is not an indication of a commitment, however we do believe things are moving in the right direction here for the Longhorns. Of course, Texas is in the market for interior defensive line help, and the 6-foot-4 and 305 lb Savea would be a welcomed addition to the Texas defense. View full news

I know a DT in the portal would be nice and I fully expect Sark to grab a couple before next season starts. However, I'm excited about some of the young guys already on campus. I think Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton will be solid. They may not be All Americans but they have a lot of game reps and both will be playing for NFL contracts. I expect at least the same level from these two as I saw from them last year and would be surprised if they both don't improve. I think Tapp, Bryant, Bledsoe and Mitchell should all take a step forward. The heavy rotation Texas used last year will be a huge benefit because many of these guys saw significant playing time. The 5th offer of the afternoon has been extended to 2025 Lake Travis DE Gus Cordova. Texas did not have to go far for this evaluation with the Lake Travis end coming down to campus for the Junior Day. If you want to talk about toughness, Cordova showed up to campus today in a t-shirt with the sub-30 degree temperatures pestering just about everyone else in attendance. Texas A&M. The same Aggies team they predict to go 6-6 on the season. I asked this on Twitter, but would you take it? You're obviously in the playoffs if that's indeed the case. For me personally, if Texas goes 11-1 I think that loss comes against Georgia. They also predict OU to go 7-5.

Here are a couple of highlights from those conversation. - Missouri City (Hightower) 2025 four-star safety Kade Phillips had a good time on his visit. He mentioned that the overall environment of the day was a major positive and that he was treated well. He will visit Texas A&M and Baylor next weekend. - Henry Harris is a name to keep an eye on for the 2026 class. The other day I was listening to Pat McAfee on ESPN and he had Colt McCoy on. McAfee told McCoy that if NIL was a thing when he was in school, Colt would have been raking in millions. I checked in with a few prospects and parents after the junior day concluded today. Here's the rundown: - After the day was over, certain players were asked to stay longer for some more personal time with the coaches. For the most part, these were guys who either received offers or who already held offers. - DeSoto duo Byron Washington and Ethan "Boobie" Feaster were two of those players. Washington, the 2025 four-star OL, is all Texas at this point and when I asked if anyone else was standing out, he said "nope." That should tell you everything you need to know. Former Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, a second-team All-Pac 12 selection in 2023, and his family made an official visit to Texas on Wednesday and Thursday. Muhammad, who recorded three interceptions for the national runner-ups this season, is slated to visit Alabama today and Oregon next week. If Muhammad plans on enrolling at Texas, he must make a decision no later than Jan. 30, which is the last day to enroll in classes at Texas for the spring term. According to a source in Tucson, Texas is expected to host Tiaoalli Savea, a defensive tackle from Arizona, on a visit this weekend, possibly as soon as today. Savea, who is 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, entered the transfer portal officially yesterday. From Las Vegas' Desert Pines High School, Savea originally signed with UCLA out of high school before transferring to Arizona. He logged 22 tackles and six tackles for loss in 2023 for an Arizona defense coordinated by current Texas linebackers coach Johnny Nansen. - As I posted in the “Afternoon Notes” thread, both Boobie Feaster and Byron Washington met with Coach Sarkisian after the junior day concluded. However, I have learned that 2025 safety Sael Reyes also had a one on one meeting with the coaches as well. - Reyes is high on Texas and had a great visit today.
