This morning on coffee and football the guys were talking about some of their weirdest THSFB stories. I’ll share mine and encourage you to share your’s. I played linebacker for Nederland HS and my senior year, 2017, during the Mid-County Madness game, Roschon’s Junior year PNG was going in from the five so I’m lined up in my stance ready to play and seconds before the snap on the opposite end of the field a flare was shot from the Port Neches student section across the field and landed 5 yards from the Nederland student section where it would’ve burned someone really badly. Cheering for Roschon is much more fun than trying to tackle him.

@Gerry Hamilton Piggy backing on GH tough district commentary, I would like to add a year and a district that is somewhat mind blowing. 1980 The Thomas Jefferson Yellowjackets (of Todd Dodge fame) went to state undefeated where they lost to Odessa Permian. That year TJ was the only team to go to the playoffs from their district. The PNG Indians had 2 district losses, one to West Orange Stark and the the other to TJ. West Orange Stark had only one loss and it was to TJ. On the road to the finals (maybe the semifinal) TJ played Spring Branch STRATFORD who finished the year with 3 losses. The 2024 NFL Draft will begin at 7 p.m. central tonight with the first round taking place. The second through seventh round will take place Friday and Saturday. The Longhorns are expected to set a program record for a seven round draft with eight to ten selections. The 2007 NFL Draft produced seven selections - Michael Griffin, Aaron Ross, Justin Blalock, Tim Crowder, Brian Robinson, Tarell Brown and Kasey Studdard. The most players ever selected in the first seven rounds in program history was in 1984 with 10 (17 total in 12 round draft). Texas adds Vanderbilt transfer guard The Texas Longhorns added one more perimeter player to the roster Monday. Vanderbilt transfer 6-6 guard Malik Presley (San Marcos, Texas/High) announced he will join the Texas program. Presley will provide depth in 2024-25, and will fight for minutes in the two years following. Presley averaged 2.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists as a freshman.. He appeared in 26 games with five starts in 2023-24. Presley continues the Texas goal of having bigger options in the backcourt moving forward. He's the second 6-6 left handed guard to join the program out of the portal.

How does IMG make money as a school? The cost to go there is crazy, but most of their football and basketball kids must be on scholarship? It's only for sports, so I'm guessing it makes it money with all the golf, tennis, baseball and volleyball kids? Still, with all the coaching required, seems they have to spend a lot of money with it's infrastructure to make it worth while for a kid to go there. How do they recruit kids?

Harbaugh took 2 Wolverines really late to make sure they had 13 on the field... I mean they won the title for most signals stolen... err.. players drafted! I got it right the third time... not sure if there was any illegal contact or not... Harbaugh maybe with the Chargers but remains to be seen if he will turn pro.

There were two major surprises and one pleasant one on Friday. First, T’Vondre was selected early on by the Tennessee Titans. The consensus view of Sweat slipping out of the early rounds apparently wasn’t one the Titans subscribed to despite Sweat’s DUI arrest two weeks ago. Second, Adonai Mitchell slid all the way to no. 52, likely largely on reports that Mitchell was difficult in practice at both Georgia and Texas. Mitchell will now head to Indianapolis where he’ll get a fresh start. Just a few years ago, Texas had 0 picks in the 2022 draft, this year Texas finished with 11 draft picks which was second most in this class behind Michigan (13). The narrative that “Texas doesn’t develop its players” I would say is officially dead. Texas finished ahead of teams like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio st etc.. Sark has this thing rolling. No doubt this will impact not only high school recruiting but portal recruiting. Another thing I thought about, think of the guys that got drafted this year that probably wouldn’t have gotten drafted or certainly not as high as they did if it wasn’t for sark and companies development! After watching the draft, Quinn would have been a first round draft pick at quarterback this year. In my opinion he would have been selected ahead of Bo Nick's in the 1st round? Very odd there were no quarterbacks selected between the first round and the fifth round. So the NFL teams jumped on the quarterbacks early and often in the first round. Thank goodness he's coming back for a third year, but he would have been a first rounder this year for sure. My opinion anyway.
