On Texas Football Forum

A place where fellow Longhorns can discuss Texas Football, Sports and Recruiting with one another and the staff of On Texas Football.

  1. There’s no other way to put it, except Texas choked last night. After being up 6-1, the Horns had a colossal meltdown and lost 9-7. The offense went cold, the defense committed mistake after mistake. Now, what should have been a win one and advance scenario, has turned into the No. 2 seeded Longhorns having to fight their way through three games to host a super regional. That’s tough. Really tough. First they’ll need to beat the Wildcats at 2:00 PM today. Some books have Texas as a 1.5 run favorite over Kansas State, while some have a little more faith in the team, and has them as a 2.5 run favorite. Regardless of all that, the Horns have to f…

  2. It’s do or die for the Longhorns. Schloss has made some lineup adjustments for today’s elimination game against Kansas State (2 p.m., ESPN).

  3. Through four innings of Saturday’s 9-7 loss to UTSA in the Austin Regional, Texas looked the part of the No. 2 overall national seed. A two-out, two-run single through the right side of the Roadrunner infield by Jonah Williams and Casey Borba’s RBI double to left field highlighted a five-run, four-hit third inning for the SEC regular-season champions. Leading 6-1 with reliable lefty Luke Harrison toeing the rubber, the Longhorns seemed well on their way to a winner’s bracket victory when they took the field for the top of the fifth. Unfortunately, Texas (43-13) suffered a catastrophic blowout, derailing what had been a relatively smooth ride. Jim Schlossnagle’s …

  4. Summer conditioning kicks off tomorrow morning for the 2025 Texas Longhorns. The start of summer conditioning also brings the remaining new faces to campus for move-in and acclimation to the team. That list includes the Coleman brothers and Nick Townsend out of the high school ranks, and the portal additions of QB Matthew Caldwell, WR Emmett Mosley V, TE Jack Endries, DL Maraad Watson, DL Lavon Johnson and K Will Shipley. While conditioning has been top of mind for the team, additional workouts have already included several new faces. OTF has learned TE Jack Endries joined the legion of pass catchers on campus for a throwing session organized by QB Arch Man…

  10. It's an 8 p.m. start between the Longhorns and the Roadrunners. The winner advances to the regional championship, while the loser plays an early game on Sunday against Kansas State, needing to win twice to reach a winner-take-all affair on Monday.

  11. Still processing last night. I can only imagine what our team is feeling this morning. Sucks to lose that way. Couple of thoughts on the morning after… 1) I can’t recall another game all year with that many compounding mistakes in the field combined with stranding 10 runners on base. 2) It would be one things if we got beat playing our best and the other team simply played better. This stings more because much of the loss felt self inflicted due to poor execution. Hats off to UTSA for grinding after we took the 6-1 lead but we shot ourselves in the foot last night. How will we respond in the elimination game against KSU? 3) Hard to believe ho…

  16. After watching CJ and Bobby debate their view of Commissioner Sankeys published rebuttal. I was thinking why not create a way to actually prove whomever is the better team or “conference” in that particular space that is debatable. With the SEC allegedly looking at inter conference play-in games for the 3, 4, 5, and 6 seeds for CFP spot. I think they should look at cross conference play-in games. Have the 3 & 4 of the SEC play the 3 & 4 seed of the ACC (3 & 4 B1G vs Big XII) ORRR take all four power 4, #3 seeds and the two highest ranked play each other then the two lowest ranked play each other and same with all four #4 seeds. Winners get in the CFP with a s…

  18. Trev Alberts is the anti-CDC. Coaches leave his low trust culture as fast as they can find a better spot or in Buzz Williams case, any alternative was better than staying at A&M. Hard to understand the original decision by Alberts in hiring an unproven Michael Early but even harder to understand the decision to retain after he went from #1 in the country with highest NIL of any baseball team in the ncaa to completely left out of the 64-team regionals. https://www.kbtx.com/2025/05/30/texas-am-retain-head-baseball-coach-michael-earley/?outputType=amp

  19. Excellent in depth analysis of Top 5 defensive lines (actually top 6) going into the season. Texas ranked #2 primarily due to our elite edge room starting with Colin Simmons but also Trey Moore and Ethan Burke. He mentions Anthony Hill as the other real threat, all of whom will make the DT job a bit easier. With all the solid DT transfers (failed to recognize Watson), he sees Texas as one of the best defensive lines in the nation and clear #2 in the SEC. Bama, LSU, Florida and Georgia all made the list behind Texas. OU ranked as the dominant and clear #1 best defensive lines in the SEC. https://youtu.be/WuUDw-fZiW8

  20. How Friday’s 7-1 win over Houston Christian in the opening game of the Austin Regional unfolded went a lot like the 2025 season has played out for Texas. The Longhorns didn’t win with style points en route to capturing the SEC regular-season championship and the No. 2 overall national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The way Texas (43-12) grounded out wins, surpassing the most optimistic expectations for Jim Schlossnagle’s first season on the Forty Acres, was how it advanced into the winner’s bracket for a Saturday tilt with either UTSA or Kansas State. Offensively, the Longhorns righted the ship with only four strikeouts after fanning 10 more times in seven of thei…

  24. There was a horrific storm cell that tan through Austin on Wednesday evening and as a result, the Disch is going to need some quick repairs ahead of the Regional this weekend. These pictures were posted by x/TheJoeyBarnett quickly after the storm hit. Texas is set to host Houston Christian at 1pm on Friday afternoon.
