Texas running backs CJ Baxter and Quintrevion Wisner were named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's top college running back. This marks Baxter’s second consecutive year on the list, and the duo becomes the third Texas RB pair in the past four years to earn preseason recognition. Baxter, who missed the 2024 season due to injury, had a standout freshman campaign in 2023 with 659 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Wisner, a third-year player, led the team in rushing in 2024 with 1,064 yards and added 411 receiving yards, making him the only returning 1,000-yard rusher in the SEC.

I will have more Sunday, but the first text I received back from a source regarding the Saturday practice. “The defense is going to be unbelievable.” Texas will be in full pads all of next week.

I know there’s been a lot of talk about the hiring of Jim Nagy as GM and what that means for Brent Venables. @Gerry Hamilton stated multiple times that Venables may not be the one in charge, and that Nagy may be the one calling the shots. It was also pointed out that Jim Nagy was the only GM that was present at SEC media days out of all the schools. But one thing that I found extremely interesting that hasn’t been brought up yet was how Venables was referring to Nagy during his time at the podium at SEC media days. I listed some quotes here below: “Love Jim Nagy, love HIS staff.” “He hired HIS last few guys, just several weeks ago.” “What I love about Jim a…

Five clear takeaways: 1) Damn, Tre Wisner showed up bigtime. 33 for 186 yards plus 21 yards in the air. Lots of runs where he was barreling downhill, not expected given his size. 2) Quinn’s pick six when we should have scored from redzone combined with strip fumble in redzone made this game way closer than it should have been on scoreboard. 3) Special Teams Disaster (missed FG, blocked punt, etc). This seems to be the area we may improve the most and that could equal + 1.5 games. 4) Isaiah Bond was an absolute liability the entire second half of season but his performance against ATM was abysmal. He just gave up on repeated plays. …

These are some practice notes from Eleven Warriors, which I’ll include the link below. Offense: - Two days into preseason camp, my overall view on the quarterback competition remains the same as it was going in. It’s fair to call Sayin the presumptive frontrunner, but I still believe there’s a real competition between him and Kienholz – especially after Kienholz was named an Iron Buckeye on Friday. Neither quarterback has delivered a wow moment yet in camp, but they also haven’t made many glaring mistakes. As was the case on Thursday, there wasn’t a runaway winner of the day between the two quarterbacks. Sayin had the more efficient day on Friday, show…
