Texas Tech: The Faces of Desperation

It's sad that it has come to this. But it has.

Texas Tech is doing anything to be relevant. They're desperate, so desperate in fact that it's embarrassing to watch grown men grovel.

Cody Campbell and Joey McGuire are the faces of desperation.

So butthurt are the Red Raiders about getting left in the Big 12 that their administration at every level, from the board of regents, to the president's office, even to the football coach's office, they're all willing to do anything to get anyone to listen to them and regard them as more relevant than they are.

In a flash of showmanship and false bravado, their football coach today asked for Texas to move its game with Texas State from Austin on Sept. 5, and schedule Texas Tech in Dallas instead.

Yet just minutes later, that very same coach tried to convince reporters that his quarterback who gambled on his own team should not incur significant penalties. "Maybe he should get a few games but not a whole year [I am paraphrasing here]," McGuire told reporters.

A sane man's response to such words? Joey McGuire will say anything to anybody if it helps him win a football game. He's a man who knows no bounds.

McGuire is only following the lead of his president at Texas Tech, who days earlier penned a letter to all students and alumni asking for the same thing.

The whole thing is preposterous.

They know it. You know it. We all know it.

If you gamble on your team, you're toast.

As for Campbell, his thumbprints are all over the latest senate legislation. And that legislation attempts to box in Texas and the SEC. Why is Campbell so worried about what's going on in Austin? Does he feel threatened?

Again, it's the move of desperate people. And McGuire and Campbell are the faces of desperation.

Texas Tech is embarrassing itself over and over again.

They should be banned from post-season competition. But they wouldn’t be if they had an injunction.Β

@Bobby BurtonΒ maybe we have it wrong. Is it possible they are afraid to actually lose this game?

Using the term 'upping the ante' while your qb is fighting gambling allegations is crazy. So thirsty for Texas, they can't even stop and think for a full second.Β

I think we should play the game with one stipulation - Tech has to wear interlocking "CC" instead of "TT" on their helmets.

Never thought I could see a team act more Aggish than the Aggies.

What Tech is doing with Sorsby is despicable. Campbell is like a garden gnome on the White House lawn. Texas fans constantly referring to feed lots in west Texas is stupid. Our mascot is a steer. The whole history of the state of Texas is tied to cattle. Austin is not inherently superior to Lubbock.Β

Great read, Bobby.

I forgot that TT was basically rejected by a couple of conferences when the b12 was in disarray after we left. Β Can't remember who and how many. Β Has to be tough on the psyche.

I initially read the title as the β€œFeces of Desperation” which is also apropos for these cockroaches.

The things you do for billionaires. TT is not passing their version of legislation and imposing the good, the bad and ugly on every other team.

Insults and nonsense is not a good tactic to get Texas to play them.Β

Texas has no use for Tech. We already bring Texas viewers to our games. There is no nationwide interest in a Tech that scored zero points in the CFP. Sark doesn't need to play Tech again, he beat them 57-7 🀣.

OHST brings us national interest in a night game that will be a highlight for some elite TX recruits. Our schedule is maybe the most challenging in the country. We need and deserve a warmup game before Ohio St. The deals are done. Tickets have been sold. TV and travel plans have been made. We honor our deals.

We are not whoring for Tech's benefit. Tech's outbursts and attempts to reschedule our existing game and scramble to play Tech is ludicrous.

Media may not call Tech out en mass for multiple issues like they should but the fans see it.

Bottomline, Tech could have been more accommodating and worked to schedule a quality opponent other than Texas but they chose to schedule non-conference (2 - 10) Oregon St. That is pitiful.

Tech is digging a deeper hole with the Sorsby talk. They have lost credibility. Their up and coming reputation has turned for the worst in 2026.

Β

They scheduled Oregon State back in 2018 as a PAC 12 school not as 2-10 school with no home. Β They scheduled the ACU series in 2017. Β SHSU was added as a replacement, which is why we played them, wasn’t it? Β Replacing CSU, a team we recently had on the schedule.

So they are honoring their deals. Β

Agree...

Texas Tech has turned into the loudest irrelevant program in America. They spent the entire offseason begging for Texas like it’s 2011 again, then act shocked when nobody takes them seriously.

You don’t get to score zero in the CFP, schedule 2–10 Oregon State, and then lecture anyone about β€˜competition.’ That’s clown‑level self‑awareness.

Texas is lining up Ohio State under the lights - a real national brand, real stakes, real recruiting impact. Tech is lining up excuses, press conferences, and tantrums.

Every time they open their mouth, they dig the hole deeper. The Sorsby drama, the booster meltdowns, the constant whining about Texas… it’s all turned their β€˜up‑and‑coming’ narrative into a punchline.

Texas doesn’t need Tech. Tech needs Texas. And that’s why they’re screaming into the void.

LOL. Ok. Oregon St was 4-8 in 2016,Β 1-11 in 2017 and 2-10 in 2018.Β Oregon St was a terrible team when TT scheduled the game. Thank you for helping me put an exclamation on my point.

TT marquee non-conference game since 2008 was arguably vs Oregon in 2023. Big deal. We have played marquee non-conference games vs USC, ND, LSU, OHST, MICHIGAN and BAMA over that time period.

Bottomline, TT has scheduled mostly weak non-conference games for decades, including and most definitely Oregon St!

Correct me if I am wrong, but TT just said they want to get out of their deal in order to schedule Texas. πŸ˜†That is not TT trying to honor their deal. πŸ˜‚Β

So let's not act like TT is honorable. TT trying to get gambler Sorsby eligible when he was suspended is not honorable. TT flailing to pass self serving legislation is not honorable. Trying to "legally steal" TV money from more desirable and deserving teams is not honorable. Trying to control other football conferences is not honorable.

This whole social media talk of scheduling Texas last minute is ludicrous. Sark beat them 57-7 last time we played. TT offers nothing. We already bring the Texas viewers to TV.Β  TT did not score a single point in the CFP. Nationwide interest for Tech does not move the needle for us.

Even most TT fans know trying to schedule Texas last minute is an embarrassing sideshow with zero chance of happening. Texas does not reschedule in May or June for an upcoming August or September game. Preposterous.

Β

I see itΒ  completely differently.Β
