Texas has hired James Madison Assistant Special Teams Coach and Specialists Coach Matt Moran to the staff as a Special Teams Analyst. Moran spent 2024 at James Madison and 2023 at Boston College. Before then, Moran was the Assistant Special Teams Coordinator at Stanford from 2015–2022. Moran and new Texas defensive backs coach Duane Akina overlapped from 2015–2022 at Stanford. As we move into the spring, Texas will be looking to bounce back in the special forces part of the game and Moran's addition can certainly provide some assurances for a bounce back season Bert Auburn, and the return game. So when the staff makes a call on a 2026 high school prospect, it's easy to know that the prospect is a the top of the targets. I'm told this morning that there's a good chance Texas third baseman Adrian Rodriguez returns to the diamond this weekend, as the Horns head to Lexington to face Kentucky. While it's not set in stone as of this this update, a source close to the program feels optimistic we'll see the freshman phenom in action. Rodriguez has been out since the Horns sweep of Missouri. He is batting .326 at the plate, with 31 hits, 14 RBIs, and 5 home runs. As OTF has reported previously, Rodriguez has been "structurally fine" but Texas wanted to hold him out until he wasn't hurting.

Texas added a talented wide receiver out of the portal yesterday with the news of Stanford WR Emmett Mosley V signing with the Longhorns. As a result, the projection of the room in 2025 feels a bit more steady with another playmaker who has accumulated some time on the field and roughly 50 receptions to their name. While the Mosley addition will help stabilize the WR in case of injury next fall, the Longhorn receivers room remains rather young. Though, you could argue, the room will remain one of the more talented groups in the SEC. The president of the United States issued an executive order yesterday regarding the future of college sports. The main tenets included eliminating pay-for-play schemes, the future of student employment, Title IX guidance, saving non-revenue sports, and reducing long-term liability of the institutions. Last year, it was Quinn Ewers on day one and Barryn Sorrell on day two. - Last year, we would have graded the punting unit a D or so. With the new punter, Texas has a chance to get a A or A+. Two transfers signed with Texas this winter yet never made it to spring ball: defensive tackle Travis Shaw and linebacker/edge Brad Spence. Both had lingering injuries from the previous season. Both had surgeries this off-season. Based on what I have been told from early camp feedback, both will be very key contributors to this year’s defense. ** I am told that Shaw has been one of the better defensive tackles so far this training camp and is definitely expected to find his way into the lineup. There has already been on NFL draft pick in Cameron Williams, and the 2026 draft could see two to four more former 3-star prospects selected. Kendrick Blackshire, a linebacker originally from Duncanville by way of Alabama, is the only player to officially put their name in the portal.
